quote: Juan, I can understand your frustration with the online community considering CFAS and all of the cancellation rumors but I think you have to understand that Capcom seriously screwed up. They announce a game that would not be ready by a year and then remain relatively quiet about it. BAD BAD BAD. Not to mention that they can't get Capcom USA reps to understand what is really happnenig with the game.
The online community is at fault for hyping and fauning over the game. And spreading rumors about it (it's demise, bad gameplay?). But this ALWAYS happens. Especially with high profile games and high profile game developers.
Capcom should not have announced the game until it was 100% sure they thought it would be a great product and it would be completed promptly. They failed on both counts. We first heard about this game around last summer/fall. And ever since, we've heard very little about it. Plus the game had the major "small" roster flaw, crummy graphics flaw and supposed, bad gameplay flaw.
ouch ouch ouch. Capcom knows it has rabid fighting game fans. ouch ouch ouch.
You can tell that this game has had serious problems because Capcom has a good history of rolling out new games in a timely fashion. They first announce the game six months before its released with maybe a screenshot or two. And then during those six months, they slowly but steadily release more info and screenshots about the game. Tried and true product roll out over the last few years.
I personally think this game will be released because (a) Capcom seems to have invested a lot of money into it and thus will want to recoup at least some of those production costs and (b) they don't want to lose face with the industy and the fans by announcing a game and then pulling it away-- even though there was that news blurb a while ago that they canceled quite a few games they were developing-- but that was different cause none had been announced yet.
Will it be good? Here's hoping that all of this time was spent on making a great game with a big cast. Playmore certainly understands the need for a big cast (SvC).
I don't know, I really don't know the whole story, but Capcom canceled a few GameCube games not too long ago. I really don't know if they'll be showing up on other consoles or the games were just scrapped completely.
You're right about having a big cast though, I mean you can't have a Capcom Fighting All-Stars with a cast that little. The thing that bothered me the most (though it is a little thing) is that Alex didn't make it to CvS2, but now all of a sudden he's labeled an "All-Star" that bothered me. Oh well. It's a little thing. Anyway, I think the game should go into 2D because there's a BIG demand for a new Capcom 2D fighter, and I think the game would be great if it was in 2D. No 3D backgrounds please.
Still waiting for a Dan Hibiki and Robert Garcia dream match!

quote: they announced a couple of days later that they would be canning about 1/3 of their projects.
No, it was much less than that, less than 1/6 I believe.
As far as I know, no announced non-port games have been cancelled.
I won't give a number cause I don't remember it, but A LOT of projects were canceleld because Capcom's projected earnings didn't match up with actual earnings-- they had a lot less cash cause their hot games weren't selling so hot. So they had to can a lot of in development projects. But the thing is, none of them were projects they had already announced. They might have canned an announced GBA game or two, but my memory is hazy.
For a long time, games have been too costly to produce and sell at a good profit. That's why your getting all these mergers and junk. I still think making a good game doesn't take that much money. I think some of these companies (*cough*Square*cough*) spend too much time and money on eye candy (*cough*alsonamco*cough*) and less time on game play.
Idiotic idoit spoon headed fools. Square and Namco thought they could rule the world with their franchises... heh, they learned the hard way that it's not always like that. Capcom got hurt by their blunders too, but not as bad in my view.
The day that Capcom has to merge in order to survive or have a quicker recovery-- ouch!-- maybe I'll permantly quit gaming then.

Will we ever know exactly what went wrong with this game project? I had such high hopes for it, but after playing what I guess was an alpha (at TGS 2002), I didn't know what to think. the gameplay stunk at that time, but I decided that it was just really early in development, but if it was, why did the graphics look finished? Also, the two characters that everyone undoubtedly wanted to see, Akira and Ingrid, were two of three characters not yet implemented in any way, shape or form. Why did they show it at that time, in that state of development? It's the biggest screw-up I have ever heard of Capcom making.
