What is this? A remake with updated graphics? I've only played PS4 and PSO...

the game graphics remain the same, but only sport higher resolution, and slightly redrawn sprites. special effects seem to have been given a slight make-over as well.

No way, man, this is a huge update. It brings PS1 up to the visual style of PS4, and even better looking. If I recall, in PS1, your characters weren't even visible on screen... this is an amazing update.

Indeed it is a large update to the graphics; what system is this for? GBA? The Phantasy Star series is highly underrated, and I think PS4 is comparable to Final Fantasy 6/3 as a 16-bit classic.

Agreed. PS 2 and 4 are two of my favorite RPGs.

Also, as has been previously said, this is a pretty massive update indeed! I don't even remember those plant creatures, they might be new.

Surprised you haven't heard. They're remaking PS1, 2, and 4 (yes skipping 3) for the PS2 as budget titles. New graphics, improved gameplay, added story elements... the works. All being done by 3rd party developer D3. No word on a US release thus far.

Also, the first three were already released to the GBA, though unchanged from the originals.

Phantasy Star. A review with some pics of the original. They've improved it a bit, eh?

I'm psyched for these remakes!! It's part of a new "Sega Ages" range for PS2. A load of classic old games are being remade, with improved graphics and gameplay, on a budget price.

Phantasy Star I, II and IV (the best!! imho :P) are all being remade... PS1 is getting 3d effects and graphics. It won't be comparable to Master System original .. PS1 and 2 are almost unplayable now, they're so archaic, but they were classics of the time (and this is me speaking from having dug out my old copies a few days ago). Remakes = brilliant idea!

Other games slated for a remake that will probably interest you lot are STREETS OF RAGE (YEEESS!!) and LAST BRONX, for the Sega Saturn. Woohoo! Fanboy heaven!

I find PS1 still playable too, and I played it first when it originally came out on the master system. Cost $60, which is like a million dollars when you're a kid, but I digress. I don't play it thinking of it as an RPG of the vein of FF now though, but a simple little time waster. Sure, it could use improvement, but there's no game that couldn't.
