The PSX? Is Sony running out of names for their updated consoles? If it was me I would have named it the PS2 Turbo but nobody from Sony asked for my imput.

Yes, and holdouts like me still refer to it as such. This is going to be slightly confusing. They really should have chosen another name as the whole "let's add X to the end of something to make it sound cool!" fad died before GrandiaXtreme came out.

Now excuse me while a get myself a Sprite Remix.

At the stages of production it was code-named Playstation Project X.(I'd read that in an article). And the term "PSX" just stuck afterwards..

Well...maybe Im wrong but I think that our beloved 32Bits system's name was PS, not Psx....as far as I can remember PSX was just a project development name like...Sega Katana...Nintendo Dolphin and so..."Sony Play Station X" is the very first a saw it's name written in a magazine (Estación de Juego X).

In fact when I turn my PlayStation on the logo shows clearly a "P" above a "S"...where is the X?

:P That's what I think...due to lack of time I wont be able to search proofs or anything but...maybe the people interested in this subject want to research about this...

And in the meantime, people like me stood against the "PSX" naming for PS1 because, hell, it's kinda goofy. It's not quite as extreme as saying "Yeah, I'm gonna go play some Ikaruga on my Dolphin now", but I just don't know why people felt the X was necessary when "PS" would do, or "PS1" now. But then again, Nintendo wants people to call GameCube "NGC", or is that "GCN"? That baffles me too.

It does seem kind of odd to use such a widely-used name as the name of their new console, but it also seems weird, to me, that they'd add these things to PS2 so late in the hardware's lifespan, but if PS1's life was any indication, when PS3 does eventually come around, PS2 isn't going to die out.

Still, very cool looking device. Doubt I'll buy one, but...

And hey, speaking of Sprite Remix... doesn't the stuff kind of remind you of melted tropical Skittles? That's what it tastes like, to me. I like it.

Yeah, I'm sure that it was never officially PSX, but it's such an accepted name that I would think Sony would want to avoid confusion anyway. Personally I just think that "PSX" rolls off the tongue better than "PS", especially since PS sounds pretty close to PoS...

YES. I tried that a week ago and immediately I thought I was drinking liquid candy. The new Orange Mountain Dew is nasty though.

Sort of reminds me of the 3D0 - The 0 didn't stand for anything. They just needed a third character to make the name somewhat different and/or recognizable.

Which seems to be more than Sony did here. Unless this use of "PSX" is yet another development name.

Oh, son of a bitch. I wish they'd just milk the PS2 and release the PS3 later.

As for the PSX stuff, I've always heard the FIRST PS referred to as the "PSX." Then it became the PS1. And like others have said, I REEEAAALLY wish the X-TREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fad would just freakin' DIE! I'm sick of it. "Yay! I'm hip with my Mountain Dew and my parachute and my snowboard and spiky hair!"

Just leave "X-TREME" to skateboarding and etc. and never say or write it again, advertisers.

They might as well rename it to the "Sony Mass Pirating Machine."

A drive that burns and reads burned DVDs, and a 120 gig hard drive meant for storage of downloaded music and movies from the internet. You do the math.

A kind of piracy which would be more affordable if you just bought a PC though..
I don't think the reason Sony is selling its consoles is to promote piracy..even if piracy helped the PSX(PS1) sell that well..

There's no reliable emulator for the PS2 though. I think this will end up like the xbox piracy scene is now, but less since I don't see Sony making a lot of these. It's a high end product like the Q.

Well, they're obviously not making it to promote piracy, since they would only lose big time from it. Its just that in a race to make a machine that's more advanced and versatile than the PS2 without having to release the PS3 yet, they completely left out any foresight on how easy it will be to pirate games on it. Also, since its new features actually encourage you to download music (something Sony also has a large part in), they'll lose assloads of money off of that too.

Yeah, but since it's not handled by Sony Computer Entertainment this thing will cost assloads of money. This "everything" machine will probably run for about $500 US maybe. Hell, I'd get it if I had the money, but I don't so I don't think I'll be getting it.

OH, and Sprite Remix is quite good! It's like Skittles or some shit. My brother told me that the Orange Mountain Dew was a waste of money though.

I'd be inclined to agree. It tastes like a bad orange soda... not even a quality one. As much as I hate Mountain Dew, and yet love Code Red... LiveWire doesn't even have any Mountain Dew flavor at all to it. It's indistinguishable from any other orange soda, well, other than the fact that it doesn't taste very good.

Ick.

What? The current PS2s in Japan can read DVDr and DVDrw, true, but I don't think it will actually burn anything.

As it is, this just sounds like the current new PS2s in Japan, renamed and packaged with a HD and satellite tuner.

And Sprite Remix is so far the only "alternative" soda this year I can't say anything bad about.
