What kind of computer drawing pads/pens do you have, and where can you buy them? Thanks

I got a really good deal on a 9x12 Wacom Intuos on E-bay. Wacom no longer makes the Intuos because they're doing Intuos 2 now... but it's essentially the same bad. I think my pad was stolen from a school art department though... it had a suspicious room number sticker on the back and the auction guy had none of the boxes or papers... he even forgot all the cords in the first shipping. I've been using it 2 years now though and it's just as good as the day I bought it. Anyway Wacom pretty much has a hold on the tablet market, here's some comparisons of what they offer Tablets

I also have a 9x12 Intuos, and I love it. Never really used anything else other than Wacom products, so I can't compare, but considering I absolutely suck with mouse accuracy, it's an excellent art tool. Wacom makes good stuff, you can't really go wrong.

wacoms are the best, but i wouldn't really reccomend a 9x12. if you look and see that a lot of the stuff you draw is as big or bigger than a 8x11 piece of paper than i would recommend it, but most people do not draw that big.

my 4x5 wacom works entirely find for me, if i do need to get more detail, i just zoom in. i've used 9x12s before and they are too big for me, too much open space.

I agree totally. I got the smallest one (4x5 drawing area) and it works perfectly. It's not too bad in price either... $80. I'd strongly recommend it. Personally, I don't see any need for a bigger one... your brain will automatically adjust to the size: the lower-left area of the drawing area is associated with the lower-left area of the computer screen. You'll adjust pretty quick.

Yeah, I've got a Graphire. It's well worth the price.

I have a 4x5 and a 6x8 and while the latter is a little better for the extra drawing surface, I almost never notice the difference between using the two. Used 4x5s direct from wacom are dirt cheap too and come in perfect condition.

BTW, I have two because my original wasn't usb and I needed a usb one for my notebook computer.

Since I've really gotten into using my tablet I don't draw on paper anymore. Everything I could do on paper I can do better on a tablet now.

I also use Painter 8 for my drawing software. It's got a few minor and odd bugs, but overall it's incredible.

I think when I used Painter7 and my 9x12 Intuos2, it was one of the happiest art days of my life. I got mine on academic discount (which was a -little- more than what I could get on eBay, sans shipping, so I ponyed up the extra dough and just got a new one while in school).

As israfel said, if you don't draw all that large or use a lot of long, sweeping motions when you paint, it's probably wiser to just get a 6x8 or 4x5, as those will suffice you well. For me, though, I work upwards of 14x20 sometimes so having a lotta sweep space is nice and helpful.

For the curious and budget-minded, the Graphire2s are real nice and you get a real good bang for your buck ratio with them. I highly recommend picking one up for those who are thinking of experimenting with a digital tablet but don't wanna blow $$$'s on something that they may or may not truly love heh.

Just my 2¥

Hello,

Wacom is the best, I still see the second one on the shelf at Circuit City hoping to get it someday with enough saved cash. It also comes with photoshop 7 and painter.

Cheers,
