Jim Lee will always be my number 1. He's the whole reason I wanted to learn how to draw comic and all the fundamentals of my art are based on his style. After Wildc.a.t.s there was kind of a slump... I didn't think Divine Right was that great, but his current run on Batman makes me feel like I'm a kid reading X-men again. The guy is just simply amazing and a living legend.
Oh Great! I didn't really know about Oh Great! until I started reading Tenjou Tenge, but since then I checked out Majin Devil and Himiko Den. Sure the breasts are huge and there's gratuitous sex... what do you expect from a former porno comic artist, I just think that makes his art cooler. Tenjou Tenge has some of the best fights I've ever seen in a manga, and Oh Great! is an accomplished illustrator as well, the pin ups in his books are some of the best I've ever seen.
Miura Kentaro, if anyone can draw a guy with a giant sword slicing a guy and the horse he's riding on in half... it's this guy. Berserk is packed with sex and violence... in fact I think it's just about the most violent thing I've ever seen. I like his style though because it's so different from the regular screentone manga... all his characters have rough hatching and some of the double page illustrations are so pain stakingly detailed it just puts me in awe. I also think he's probably the best with speedlines in Japan, not to mention a great writer. Berserk has a great story to back up the buckets of blood.
Kishimoto Masashi, still kind of the new kid on the block... but he's managed to create a series that's one of the all time greats. I think it's funny that he wanted to be a baseball player rather than a mangaka, I'm glad he didn't make it as a ball player or we'd never have Naruto. There's nothing particularly spectacular about the Naruto manga... it's the Naruto characters. Kishimoto managed to come up with very unique character designs and created these great personalities that reflect the designs. His range is terrific also... Naruto is one of those mangas where it can be light hearted and funny... then twist around into something really heartwrenching and touching.
Another notable artists I like are Morikawa Jyoji, the author of Hajime no Ippo, Eiichiro Oda, the author of One Piece, Frank Miller, still the best Daredevil and Batman artist, Ed Mcguinness, managed to get me interested in Superman again and his new Thundercats rocks hard, and the whole Dreamwave and Studio Udon crew... I like these guys because they're really raising the bar. Most of them were just fanartists and now they're taking titles like Transformers and Street Fighter 2 and creating new stories. I think they've really raised the bar on coloring too, some beautiful digital painting, especially on the backgrounds... those boys have major painter and photoshop skills.

quote: OK. Simple question. Who are your favorite artists?
Sorry, dysgraphia is hitting me particularly bad today, so my descriptions of particular styles is going to be a bit.... lacking...
Just some of the artists I like, and listed in no particular order...
Mick Nekoi (CLAMP): While Apapa is arguably the best artist of the group, I have a strong preference for Nekoi's personal style. Ideally I would like my own style to develop into something similar to hers....
Kaori Yuki (Angel Sanctuary, Count Cain, etc...): Another shoujo manga artist, and one with a very different style than Nekoi. She's probably my favorite 'modern gothic' artist, and her artbooks are cheap too!
Akihiko Yoshida (FFT, Vagrant Story): Probably my favorite game artist, though not by much (There's no lack of good art in the game industry). I'm absolutely thrilled that he's doing the character designs in FFXII, and haven't been this excited for a Final Fantasy game in nearly 7 years....
Since this topic seemed to be geared more towards character designers, I decided to separate these two from the rest.
Shoji Kawamori (Mechanical Design): Having the chance to listen to him talk about the creation process for the Macross Valkyrie at Otakon '98 was one of the most interesting things I've ever witnessed.
Frank Lloyd Wright (Architect): A brilliant artist and architect, but a complete failure as a human being. My admiration for his work is balanced, almost equally, by my disgust for his personal life. Still, this hasn’t stopped me from owning a number of ties featuring his artwork.
GameStop customer quote of the moment: "A friend of mine is a professional assassin so I'm sure I would be good at Hitman 2."

well my favorite professional artists are
yoshiyuki sadamoto (eva, FLCL, .hack, others) kubo taito (bleach, zombie powder)
i like a lot of the capcom team including edayan, CRMK, and whoever does that awesome breath of fire art.
i also think nona is a great artist. while sometimes he's a little hit and miss, i think he really captures the faces of the characters, much better than shinkiro ever could imo
my favorite online artists would be l0cke (http://damaged.anime.net) a founding member of studio XD under UDON, he is one of my favorite all time artists and writers (yes, i like his stuff better than falcoon and a little better than kim hyung-tae)
mal (www.radiomaru.com) is not the greatest artist, but he has amazing comic skills, and is l0ckes partner in crime.

...hard question indeed.
Kosuke Fujishima: He has an extremely charming, simple and clean style. He even made me cry some times. Oh My Goddess!, You're Under Arrest, éX-Driver, Piano, Tales of Phantasia, Narikiri Dungeon, Tales of Symphonia... everything he touches is gold to me.
Hiroaki Samura: This guy makes the goriest scenes beautiful. I don't know how, but his talent deserves recognition. Go buy Blade of the Immortal now.
Koji Morimoto: does he counts? With some impressive animated music videos on his storial, a breathtaking short animation (Noiseman) and now with maybe the coolest Animatrix clip (in my opinion) this guy deserves my admiration forever.
Chris Bachalo: maybe the brightest creator in this Arthur Adams-inspired generation of artists (that includes Jim lee, JS Campbell, Humberto Ramos and Joe Madurerira just to name the most popular ones), he really knows how to make his stories unforgettable. Works like Death, Steampunk, or specially The Witching Hour are his best. And since I mentioned him, Art Adams too, for being advanced on his time, and for drawing the coolest Godzilla ever.

Here is a list of TE's favorite artists:
Kinu Nishimura(Capcom)-OMG! I wanna meet you someday! I'm like one of your biggest fans!
Edayan(Capcom)-His work is excellent. The Project Justice art blew me away and you can tell he's been the business for years with his professionalism!
Akiman(Capcom)-I liked his stuff post SFA2. One of the original Capcom heavyweights. ^_^
J.Scott Campbell-I love the way he draws Danger Girl and the rest! Certainly is one awesome artist! I would love to get on his level one day.
Jason Martin/Heather McCollum-These two are really cool people who used to visit my forums back in the day and are real friendly. And together, they both have great skills. Fact: They've also done a couple of stuff for Stefan.
Redin- An artist who I just discovered a week ago. Very great stuff he's done!
And last but not least, myself. ^_^ I would like to thank God,the Academy and video games!
That's easy, Y. Amano, CLAMP, P. K. Chung and too many others to mention....
