I am still working on the Japanese version of Disgaea. Things are getting really...strange. Also, battles are really friggin' hard, especially with a boss there. Even without the boss, who is 20 levels higher and has 3x the hit points of any of your people, you are still outnumbered with enemies who are just as powerful as you. Only superior tactics will enable you to win, and you should expect to take similar numbers of losses to the enemy in every case. Damn, it's a well tuned game, much better than FFT in that respect.

JUST HELPING BUILD THE SUSPENSE ARENT YOU

i'm glad to hear that the game will be a challenge. i've been pretty disappointed with the "easy" rpg battles i've experienced lately (last few years). at least the stories were good ..

hey, there's something about River City Ransom EX for the GBA on that site. does anyone have any more info on that?

I'm pretty sure enemy levels are fixed though, so if you're really having trouble you can spend some time chilling in item world pumping up your soldiers.

Really, I don't mind fixed enemy levels in a SRPG as long as they're intelligently set and throw something unexpected at you once in a while. Level matching creates plenty of problems on its own. Of course, I don't mind level matching either... hell, I just LOVE me some SRPGS.

FIRE EMBLEM ON THE WAY!!! HELL YEAH!

I agree about the level matching. I love Tactics Ogre, but enemies of similar levels will almost ALWAYS have higher stats than you. The more you level up, the more difficult it gets since the disproportion between you and the enemy increases. I guess this was to stop powerleveling, but it still could have been more fair.

Disgaea sound more and more cool. 'll probably play both the language tracks like I did with Skygunner and it's a neat feature which more games should incorperate, especially now that modern game systems use DVDs. I'm glad it's difficult because FFT and TO:TKoL were way too easy.

have any of you tried Hoshigami? i'm currently playing it (about 12 or so hours into it) and am very happy with this game. there's a lot i could rant on about, but i'll just point out the "magic system" and the difficulty of the "story battles"

the magic coins are a tedious process, but i've figured out many possibilities for them. for example, my explosion and fire spells cover an area of 25 blocks, and can be cast multiple times on the same turn. because i've discovered how to utilize them so early in the game, my magic is (so far) way superior to any enemy magic i've approached

as for the "story battles," the enemies' levels seem to go up with mine (i wasted a couple of hours in "training" to try and outmatch their levels. it just made things worse). so instead of just brute force, it all boils down to strategy. most of the "story battles" i've approached have taken me over an hour each, but i'm not complaining. being outnumbered and outleveled and still coming out on top is a beautiful feeling

a lot of people have complained about the difficulty, but whatever. maybe i haven't gotten to the "difficult" part of the game yet. the only part of the game that i've found insane is the fact that if one of your characters die, they're gone for good. i lost a good archer near the end of one of the early battles. i had already spent an hour fighting it (and i gained another strong character soon after), so i just let her go. no resurrection during battles is a good addition (you don't see many enemies using "phoenix downs" on eachother in other rpgs), but to lose them for good ..

i've come across a Cure Re spell, but i'm not exactly too sure how to use it yet. stay tuned!

YES! I love my Hoshigami. Be thankful you've figured out the coin system early. I never experiemented with engraving two seals at once so I had a very frustrating time for a few missions untill I went on gamefaqs. The best thing about Hoshigami is the challenge, it really makes you plan your moves very carefully or your whole group *will* get slaughtered because the enemy is generally higher level than you.

You can get nifty equipment if you complete the final floor of each tower. Also, it's easy to set up hit sessions on the tower mages and get their coins.

It took me over 100 hours to beat the game mostly because Fazz and a boomerang thrower were the only survivors of one of the early battles, and I didn't upgrade my coins effectivly untill pretty late into the game.

It's looking good! Thanks for the link.

I'll need to pray to the Figure Goddess in order for Atlus to release that Disgaea figure together with the game though.
Probably will need to go to the zoo and feed the penguins in order to please her :)

engraving two seals simultaneously produces a different result? i've gotta do more experimenting hehe. good thing you told me

i just now completed the first tower, but i didn't save it. i was goofing around and one of my most powerful swordsmen died in the process. also, i thought that the initial hit (the guy that starts the "shoot") was included in the "six hit combo." oh well. i'll try again later. these towers are very tall  T_T  (don't worry. i exited on the 15th floor and saved hehe)

oh, one question. do you know if i can gain anything for not learning a skill? i think i already know the answer but the question still plagues me

EDIT:
Holiday's avatar has changed before my very eyes. the Figure Goddess works in mysterious ways

No. There is no penalty(other than not having the skill) or benefit from not learning a skill.

Lesson: learn all the skills you've unlocked.

Someone on the Atlus forums has already suggested it so it would be nice if they had a limited edition or something.

What is the US release date for this game? I first heard it was due sometime in Sept or October but I recently saw it listed as coming in late July. Plus my local game shop already has the promo box on display so I'm beginning to think it's coming out sooner rather than later.

It's going to be an awesome game, no question. Good to see so many people on this board excited about it. From what I understand, getting rights to this title was quite a feat for Atlus... tell your friends, post on messageboards, and make this title succeed!

Ah... should I wait for an announcement of any special editions of Diagaea, or I shouldn't get my hopes up?
BTW, how much is it selling for online?

Looks like I'll have to feed more penguins to make any announcement faster.
Maybe a sacrifice has to be made...

I'm just wondering but why is everyone preordering? I highly doubt this game is going to sell out. The admin over on Atlus' boards said he'd "pass along" the idea of a limited edition, but he's been blowing smoke up our ass as of late so I wouldn't expect that to go anywhere.

Just leave it all to me!

Well, if nothing else, stores do record preorder numbers... and there's also the chance that a clerk will be more likely to recommend a title if it seems to be generating local interest.

Those guys work on comission you know. Heh. Besides, number one reason to preorder:

I got a good feeling!

Heh. I hate pre-ordering stuff. Pretty much everytime I go into a store when something even remotely popular comes out, a smarmy clerk tells me "Yes, we have that. But only for our PRE-ORDERED customers. You'll never find that anywhere" Actual quote. So then it's like a challenge to get it.

Truth be told, other than the Gamebuy SP, I've never had that much trouble getting hotly awaited stuff the day they come out, and it took me a week to get an SP (and it was still like a month later until people who reserved them at Babbages got theirs when the third shipment of 2 Gameboys came in).

Overall I just hate preordering unless I have to do it (like for instance if there's a limited edition only preorders receive. It's more of a principle thing then anything else. I won't lose to Funcoland!

"Who wants a gameboy advance sp???" , posted Fri 30 May 17:49post reply

Hello Everybody,

Let me know if a couple of you or something need one. I keep seeing them in my store (which i will name anonymous) all the time in san jose. If i see one, i will let you know.

If i see it, i will pick some up for you, and you send me the cash first. I am a really friendly n' honest person (godly) and i feel like i want to sell them only to honest people, than the ones who want to horde all our stock and sell them on ebay because of their own selfish greed.

I feel that i want to make it fair to others that who are real gamers, and sell them to real gamers who take care of them like if it was their car or something. I have the gut feeling these are going to be limited print.

If this interests you, let me know. Hopefully i can get one myself, but i am so poor, i can't get one since i gotta pay rent and health insurance and bus pass.

Lemme know yer email addresses. Usually we get some every 3 weeks or so of 20 or more.

Cheers,

ssushi :O)
