They've been airing these over here more or less recently, but I've never seen or read any comments about them from "foreign" people, when they're supposed to be famous (that's how they're anounced), so I'm just curious to know your opinion. If you've seen them, of course:
Celebrity Deathmatch: Euuhh... this one, it has funny gags, yeah, but I guess it's not my style of humour. Add the fact that, only god knows why, they didn't get the original voices, so I have to watch it in the dubbed version , and it loses a lot of quality with the translation... so, I don't really like it much. BTW, a question: Are the "celebrities" dubbed by their real selves in the original version?
Daria: Curious one, saw a few chapters a while ago, and following it right now. It's fun, and makes me think about the characters' personalities (specially Daria's and Jane's). But as in CD the dubbing is bad, and it's really hard for me to get some of the jokes in the original version. Gotta put more effort >_<.
Downtown: Haven't seen much of it, only a few loose chapters, but it was fun.
Crayon Shin Chan: Doubted if I'd include it or not, cuz I've talked about it before, but it follows the "rules" like the others. What can I say? Too funny even though a bit repetitive. And Himawari Nohara rocks.
FLCL aka Furi Kuri: Next paranoia from Gainax after Eva. Completely wacky, great soundtrack, very funny but weird at the same time to me. The plot even had some sense, in a sense . Too bad I missed the 2nd chapter...
Kenan & Kel: Didn't see much, liked it less. But guess I was never really interested, so I don't know it well enough.
Kevin Spencer: They air it too late, but seen a few chapters and, oooff, it's too much for me, almost depressing even when it's fun... perhaps watching it late at night affects my opinion though.
Yawara! A fashionable judogirl: Very good anime, even better manga by Naoki Urasawa. Read it's very popular in Japan, but read it from a fan, so I don't know how far is that true. At least I know there's an American version (or at least spoken in English) because that's the one they bought & brought here, the main character got her name changed from "Yawara Inokuma" to "Ginger Inokuma" in it (yuck). It's a realistic sports anime (well, relatively realistic. VERY realistic if you compare it to... say Captain Tsubasa) and a realistic long love story (perhaps too long, but it fits with the characters). I saw it when I was a kid, and a teen, but never really interested me until now, after seeing it again. Liked it a lot this time.
Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane: Never really saw it ^_^U, but I'll include it, since it's being emitted now.
EDIT: Fixed the "American" thingie, and put a more appropriate phrase.

I'm from U.S. but here it goes
quote: Celebrity Deathmatch: Euuhh... this one, it has funny gags, yeah, but I guess its humour is too "American" to me (no offense, I mean no harm). They're not dubbed by the originals. This show sucks. MTV sucks. The animation quality on this show is bad and the sense of humor is bad. There is other truely "American" humor out there that is good and is quite different than what MTV can possibly imagine.

This show sucks. MTV sucks. Bevis and Butthead were great. The is a lame, Mike Judge-less spin off. Mike Judge the inventor of Daria from B&B, doesn't like this show. Quit watching MTV. When you stop watching MTV you will notice positive changes in your life. I'm serious. II have MTV blocked on my TV so I don't have to see it when I'm flipping channels.

Is that that lame Nickelodeon show? Nickelodeon is owned by the same company as MTV.

"but"? I just asked everyone's opinion, don't care if from USA or wherever. And thanks for answering.

I knew I screwed it. Forget I put "American" in there. I'm sorry if it sounds stereotypical and/or offensive, never intended to.

Well, I don't watch MTV (don't have it), it's just a program from here, that buys all those series. MTV, anime & sitcoms most of 'em. Daria is originally from B&B?! Sure I didn't know that!

Don't worry, it's MTV too, so I guess I already know your opinion

Because of the reasons mention above, and since I didn't watch it, I don't know where is it from. Guess it's the one you mention, though.

Thought maybe you were asking for foriegn opinions, and sense those were mostly American shows I thought you were asking for opinions from other countries. I see what you meant now.

I kinda thought it was an mtv style animation. The only good animation shows from mtv were liquid television/aeon flux/b&b...

Here's my two cents:
quote: Celebrity Deathmatch: Euuhh... this one, it has funny gags, yeah, but I guess it's not my style of humour. Add the fact that, only god knows why, they didn't get the original voices, so I have to watch it in the dubbed version , and it loses a lot of quality with the translation... so, I don't really like it much. BTW, a question: Are the "celebrities" dubbed by their real selves in the original version?
I absolutely hate this show. Lame, unfunny, and the actors portrayed didn't look anything like who they were supposed to be 98% of the time. Senseless violence can be made funny at times, but this show did it all wrong, IMO.
quote Curious one, saw a few chapters a while ago, and following it right now. It's fun, and makes me think about the characters' personalities (specially Daria's and Jane's). I don't know where Gen got the info that Mike Judge didn't do this show. He is the one responsinble for this show. I always loved this show. I can definitely relate to Daria's feeling about people. Some episodes gave me flashbacks to high school. This show is a great reminder of how stupid high schoolers (and people in general), can be.
Btw, Daria isn't running on MTV here in the 'States anymore. It's on reruns on Noggin, which is an off-shoot of Nickelodeon.

Never seen any of these.
quote: Kenan & Kel: Didn't see much, liked it less. But guess I was never really interested, so I don't know it well enough.
Keenan and Kel were funnier when they were on All That, which was actually an entertaining show at one point. Keenan and Kel are some cool guys, but the show was actually lacking and not all that funny. It's been canceled here for a while now.
quote: Kevin Spencer: They air it too late, but seen a few chapters and, oooff, it's too much for me, almost depressing even when it's fun... perhaps watching it late at night affects my opinion though.

Well, here, this was airing on the WB, which is a station that has NOTHING good to offer. I never saw the show (wasn't interested in it at all), and it was cancelled real quickly.
Iron D-itude fact 1: Iron D is part of the class of '01.

Actually Mike Judge didn't create Daria at all.
Mike Judge: "I have nothing to do with Daria" http://www.sonic.net/~goblin/9beavis.html
" AC: What's the story on Daria? Are you involved in that or is that MTV's baby?
MJ: I'm still a little bitter about that. I just got a call one day from someone there saying they were thinking of doing a spin-off of the character Daria. And I thought, hey, that could be cool. Then the next thing I know they've started, they've done a pilot, and they've hired somebody without really ever consulting me on anything. It just happened. I hear it's gotten better. I do get paid something for it, though. Not a lot, but something. " http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/vol18/issue25/screens.judge.html

I could've sworn that I read in a magazine somewhere that MJ was behind Daria. I'm really sure, as a matter of fact. It was TV Guide or something similar...ah, heck. Either way I enjoyed (and still enjoy) it.
Hey Dude? Hey freakin' Dude?
I think that Nick's good shows were (are): Salute Your Shorts, Legends of the Hidden Temple, REN & STIMPY, Pete and Pete, The Secret World of Alex Mack, Hey Arnold!, Doug, The first 3 or so seasons of All That, Looney Tunes (Nick used to have it),Rocko's Modern Life, and Invader Zim.
Sponge Bob blows chunks, IMO.

Lots of places say that Mike Judge made Daria but they didn't check their facts before they reported, or they reported on assumption or something.
Hey Dude wasn't great, but there was a point in the mid 90s after which MTV and Nickelodeon were no longer capable of doing anything good in my opinion.

I'll give my opinion on the ones I've watched:
Downtown: Hmmm...there is a japanese show with this name created by a humouristic couple with the same name...are you asking about this one? If so I like it. Quite oldie but very funny and one of my favourites.
Crayon Shin Chan: It's supposed to be really funny but I find it, as you said, very repetitive...Do you remember El Chavo del Ocho ^^;?
FLCL aka Furi Kuri: original, weird and, overall, superb...great script, great OST. Will keep you tuned until the very end of it due to its paranoid characters and story.
Yawara! A fashionable judogirl: I've just seen a few episodes but, as you said, the realism in the Judo technics and the well designed relationships as background made a lot of friends of me love this anime.
That's all :P

quote: Yawara? In ENGLISH? O_O! WTH?
Anyways, I have all of Yawara on LD. :D I adore the series and am rather proud of having it. One of my fave TV shows of all time...
I think it's an American version because some fans I talked to said so. The only thing I know for sure is that here they bought this version where there was only one opening, sung in English, and Yawara got her name changed for "Ginger".

Downtown: Hmmm...there is a japanese show with this name created by a humouristic couple with the same name...are you asking about this one? If so I like it. Quite oldie but very funny and one of my favourites.
Guess it's not the one you mention. It's an MTV series about some young people living in a city. NY, IIRC ( What did I just say? ). Si, como deduzco por el resto del mensaje, ves 3xl.net, tb la han dado allí un par de veces, los fines de semana.

Crayon Shin Chan: It's supposed to be really funny but I find it, as you said, very repetitive...Do you remember El Chavo del Ocho ^^;?
