SUMMARY PLZ?
same applies here:) any transcripts floating around the net?
The following is an unofficial summary of the InsertCredit mp3 interview with SNKNEOGEOUSA, since they haven't released a transcript of their interview yet. I've tried to include most of the meaty stuff, so I won't be including a lot of misc. comments on minor issues like the published book about the Aruze-SNK scandal, possible development in the US (they didn't reveal much info about this), or staff hiring for the marketing and sales in the US.
If I've made any errors in summarising, I apologise in advance.
- talked about the confrontation between Aruze and Playmore. Aruze was supposed to help set up, invest, and market the NGP to take it to a higher level, but instead exploited the development team to make pachinko games. Mr. Kawasaki started taking action against Aruze and won many of the suits against Aruze.
- Kawasaki eventually created Playmore, but he couldn't use the SNK name due to legal reasons (namely, the debt thingy). Put simply, Playmore IS SNK, with Playmore incorporating many of the original staff. It was also originally planned long ago by Playmore to re-enter the American market.
- All arcade and home distribution in the US will be done by SNKNEOGEOUSA. The office in California will be distributing Playmore's arcade titles while the office in New Jersey will be responsible for the home titles. So there will be 2 different divisions for both arcade and home titles.
- Apple was originally brought on as SNK's arcade title distributor in the US, but their contract dissolved a year ago.
- Playmore is not withdrawing from the arcade market, compared to Capcom.
- Playmore entered the Pachinko market last year and will continue to do so since they're a lucrative market.
- No comments on Eolith's further involvement with Playmore now that their initial contract with KOF2K1 and KOF2K2 is over. Due to restructuring, Brezza is now part of Sun Amusement. If I'm not mistaken, the interview mentioned that there will be *some* development coming from Sun since Brezza is now part of them, though Sun will mostly be responsible for worldwide sales for both arcade and consumer products from Playmore, since they're a division of Playmore.
- Playmore has licensing agreements with Sammy in producing mobile phone games for the Playphone, which is a division of Sammy.
- At the moment, they don't have any future projects planned with Evoga after developing Rage of the Dragons.
- No plans to release KOF Online in the US.
- No comments on the relationship between the chipmakers Matrix with Playmore, who had appeared in the development credits in GBA KOF-EX 2.
- Plans to give away KOF2K together with every purchase of KOF2K1 for PS2, either as both games on one disc or 2 games in one jewel case as their opening promotion. There're also plans to bring over MS3 in the fall, MS4, and KOF2K2, all for the PS2.
- KOF 3D is in development, and is NOT KOF Online. No comments on who is developing it. KOF 3D will be a fighting game, and will be a test of the fans' responses to this project since Playmore is mainly a 2D company. It'll be exclusive to the PS2 console.
- The KOF2K and KOF2K1 will mostly be straight ports to the PS2, though the president hints of possible hidden extras being added.
- No comments on KOF Advance due to licensing issues, or whether the game exists yet. Also there was initial confusion about whether Playmore would actually be developing Metal Slug Advance. The president later retracted his statement.
- No comments about whether the KOF-EX series will be killed off if KOF Advance does surface. Also no comments on SNK vs Capcom on the GBA.
- SvC: Chaos will be out in the arcades around July. The PS2 version might come out as early as December.
- No comments on 3D Metal Slug.
- No comments on whether they'd follow MegaKing example of porting NGCD games to PC and selling them.
- No comments on future titles released for the DC in Japan, or whether KOF2K2 will be the last title to be ported to the DC.
- No comments on development, platform, format, or dimension about Samurai Showdown 5.
- No comments on the cancellation of KOF for the GamePark32 in Korea.
- As for the purported "unfinished" or incomplete NGP colour games, they have no plans to ever releasing it for the GBA or any other handheld platforms. They will however support the upcoming handheld platform that was recently announced by Sony.
- The president hints of possibly releasing a compilation of NGPC games (including unreleased games?) for consoles like the X-Box and PS1, like the Namco collection.
- Plans to support X-Box, especially with some traditional licenses explored.
- There will be continued support for the Neo-Geo console, where people could visit the NeoGeoUSA website for purchases.
- No comments on whether there will be any change in arcade hardware support. The president said that it is Playmore's decision in looking into supporting for other future arcade hardware.
- No comments on reviving the 2nd party development houses.
- Will not comment on the issue of Playmore looking to hire an Animation Designer.
- No plans to change Playmore name back to SNK at this time.
- No comments on whether another Cool Cool Toon game will be developed after its mascots are used for the SNKWorld online club.
