Is there a smaller version of the E3 trailer somewhere? The one at IGN is like 128 MB, and my transfer rate won't top 20K there right now.

Good grief those pictures look nice. Has there been any word on how MGS3 will play? Since a lot of the previous MGS tricks won't work in a forest [sneaking into a different room to avoid curious guards, the incredible power of the cardboard box] how is Snake going to get by this time? When you alert a guard will enemy guards units somehow find you in the middle of the woods? What new insights into the nature of life will Snake have this time?

The GC MGS is also looking good, since both new camera angles and abilities [the shot of Snake stuffing someone into a locker] have been included. Will these changes radically affect how the game plays? Will you still have to make that ghoulish decision regarding Meryl? I don't know but I'm looking forward to any new info that comes along.

Well, I think that we can make some educated guesses from the screenshots. There's a shot of Snake hanging down from a branch, so you can get above your enemies to some degree. There's also lots of hills, which mean pretty much the same thing. They also show Snake hiding under a bridge, which means that he can probably hide in rivers and under footbridges. The most interesting part that I saw, though, is the camouflage ones. They have Snake wearing like three different kinds of camouflage, a jungle one, a river one, and I believe one other, and they have shots of him blending in with the jungle surroundings in the jungle camo and with the river in the river camo. Does that mean that you'll be able to use some sort of limited stealth camouflage when you have the suit for the area that you're in?

Even though this game looks cool, I still sort of worry about how it will turn out. MGS2 left so many plot threads open for the sequel, but none of them were interesting. And what about Raiden? Will he be in the game, which would sort of suck, or will we have to deal with a "Metal Gear Raiden" game somewhere down the line, which would full-on blow?

And is it me, or do the Twin Snakes and Snake Eater screenshots look very similar? The Twin Snakes shots look like a very high quality GameCube game... but so do the Snake Eater ones. I hope that those shots aren't cleaned up and that the game really looks that beautiful on the PS2. I'm not going to get my hopes up, though, since the new screenshots for Gran Turismo 4 look nowhere near as good.

One a sidenote, did anyone notice Twin Snake's environmental detail is pretty low? I mean the everything looks pretty blocky and I am having suspicions they are re-using the MGS1 environments and just re-texturing them with higher quality textures and inserting new character models with new polys.

MGS 3 looks interesting but Twin Snakes, I'll just buy the Bleem pak instead for DC @_@

I'd think that the whole game is being built up from scratch since the game isn't being handled in-house at konami. why give it to silicon knights if they're just going to port it over from the ps one?

Damn you DarkZero! That's just what I wanted to comment: the camouflage suit being really useful finally, after 4 games (plus Ghost Babel) and TS's perhaps-too-poligonal look.

EDIT: According to vandal you'll actually HAVE to select the appropriate camouflage suit AND paintings.

FUCK YEAH!!! These pictures rock!!! Did you see the one where Snake is slitting the guys throat? My favortie one is when he's shooting the guy from under the bridge! This is going to be a whole new version of Tactical Espionage Action!!!!!
Edit: Sniper rifles too?!?! With different vision modes?!?!?!

Finally saw the entire 11-minute video.

Well, what was shown of the actual game was awesome. It seems you do have to hunt animals and eat them. In the video it shows Snake eating a raw fish by a river. He can also shoot soldiers while hanging from a branch. And you can use beehives to distract the enemy. (Gee, didn't see that one coming.)

There's also some dialogue in there, but I seriously hope that's not in the actual game. It's more like some silly joke dialogue than an actual story.

At least it hints that Snake will definitely be the main character of the game this time.

Beehives, I think that will provide some entertainment right there. What kinda silly joke dialogue was there?

Man, those pictures really look better than what I thought the PS2 was capable of doing...

Is this entire game set outside? Cool that you have to hunt animals (though I have no real ambition to hunt animals). Yeah, MGS2 really left me not too excited for a sequel--hopefully Snake Eater is the game to get me hooked again.

Hopefully the control scheme won't be broken like the past two games have been. I liked MGS and 2 but half the time I was shooting wildly at things I couldn't see because of the lame way the game is set up.

And please, for the love of god, get rid of the stupid codec transmissions or reduce them a lot because they are the most boring things in videogame history. I fell asleep playing ZOE2 because of them.

Well, there were a couple but this is the only one I could make out:

Snake holds up a guy getting on a motorcycle:
SNAKE: Freeze!
GUARD: (raising arms) What's this, another grand theft auto?
SNAKE: It's a sneaking mission!
GUARD: This is no vice city. You're in a jungle! Go eat snake. (guard drives away as Snake looks frustrated)

You see what I mean? But keep in mind this was all in Japanese, so it's possible the subtitles were a joke and this isn't what they were saying. I guess it's still too early to reveal the story anyway.

Oh, and I almost forgot: Snake has a big knife that he swings around wildly and slits throats with.

Plus, it seems that time of day is taken into account as well in the stealth factor. Some parts were in broad daylight while others were pitch black (FINALLY, a reason to use the night-vision goggles).

Dude, whether codecs are boring or not, they're one of the Metal Gear BASICS. There was a radio/codec in the game since the very start. While I can understand not having 15 minute codec conversations, I still think they shouldn't completely cut them out. At least we have little faces to look at (and play with) while the cutscenes are playing out.

Depending on where you got the clip from, I'm pretty sure those were joke lines. I'd think they're actually saying something else.

I wouldn't be surprised if that really was the dialogue that was spoken in Japanese. It's probably just demo humor, like the jokes in the Xenogears demo about how certain characters weren't supposed to be in the game until much later. And now that I think of it, wasn't there a lot of demo humor in the original Metal Gear Solid demo, too? At the very least, I remember that a lot of the dialogue in the demo wasn't in the final game.
