Caught the midnight showing last night...

Definitely one of the best comic book-based movie ever made. Good story & character portrayal, lots of action, special effects, etc. They had pretty much everything down perfectly this time around.

Wolverine kicked @$$, and Nightcrawler was very good. Heck, even Halle Berry did good job playing the part of Storm (unlike original).

Only thing that I wish they'd done better was...

Spoiler (Highlight to view) -
The way they had Jean Grey killed was... Well, a bit underwhelming?

End of Spoiler

Highly recommended.

Totally agree. I saw it yesterday, and I became pleasantly surprised.

Excepting the fact that the ages, origins, alliances and phisical appearance of many characters have been somewhat altered from the comics, the movie manages to express the X-Men spirit, and is also very well done.

Nightcrawler was impressive, (except that he teleported too much and too easily for not being a trained X-Men), Wolverine was as fiery as he is in reality (X-Men 1 was a joke, he only damaged Mystique, the rest of his enemies was surprisingly unharmed...), Cyclops had a very little role (good thing, of course), etc, etc...
But, the best part, because I didn't expected it, was...

Wow, nice movie. It was every bit as good as the first one but in some different ways. Too many children, though. Some nice lines, though nothing to top that "you're a dick" line in the first.

There were a lot of references in the computer scene. I saw an Omega Red file on the desktop too :D

Spoiler (Highlight to view) -
And yes, Jean's death was underwhelming. They made it too obvious where the story was going with that, and still didn't give it enough buildup.

I didn't like the movie, but I didn't hate it.

Spoiler (Highlight to view) -
More Nightcrawler would have been nice, I hope he and Colossus get to do more in X3. I wish they had made this more like "God Loves, Man Kills" instead of being "Dark Phoenix Saga; Episodes 1: We do a bunch of shit for 2+ hours to set up for the next movie." It annoys me we're supposed to know from commericals/entertainment magazine that Yuriko is Deathstrike... her 'codename' was never mentioned once. I've always hated Mystique and this was no exception.

End of Spoiler

Now a rant:

It's time to put some damn clothing on Mystique. Yes, yes it's very funny super models are stupid enough that you can dip them in blue paint amd glue some scales on them and they'll walk around naked in the snow thinking they're an actress, but it's time to look at the larger picture here.

This is the SECOND time Beast has been dropped from a movie because of make-up time! I'd even wager Sabretooth was dropped because Nightcrawler took longer then expected too.

Putting Mystique in a white dress and boots wouldn't hurt the movie AND would cut an hour or too off her make-up time. It would at least give them time to fit Sabretooth and Toad make-up in giving a complete Brotherhood.

For X3 they seriously need to consider using a CGI Beast and getting him a good voice actor, or drop/cover up Mystique enough to free up the time to coat a dude in blue fur.

I enjoyed the movie but sort of agree with the Mystique stuff. I guess the nakedness is to make the transformations more "realistic". Beast would be cool but they need to get his role done properly. I almost bet that if they choose to do him either black fur or before the change and have him as just a huge guy.

I'm predicting that the Sentinels will make an appearance in the next movie along with Apocalypse. Colussus , Shadowcat, and Jubilee are predictions but the later two were in the first movie with just minor roles.

Oh, and I saw Gambit's name on the computer because I "knew" he was in the movie, just not how little. This makes me wonder, within the Cerebro sequences, can anyone here recognize any specific mutants in the random scans?

Speaking of that... I wish they had done a mutant squence like the human one while the Prof was concentrating.

It seemed unfair to show humans around the world falling in pain, but the only mutants shown were the X-Men, the children at the scene, Magneto, and Mystique.

This would have been a good chance to show some cameos (maybe a guy a trench coat writhing in pain in New Orleans?), characters who weren't present but needed to accounted for (Sabretooth and Toad), or at the very least mutants in the movie but not near the battle (the group Colossus lead to safety... and of the course the guy planing "Dr. Hank McCoy" in the short TV clip)

but they blew it... In retrospect it might have been over kill to show BOTH humans and mutants suffering, but showing humans to heighten the drama creates a clear speration of audience and character... it's saying "the mutants dying is only of concern to them, but HUMANS... look at them suffering all around the world including these location shots! Now you should feel there is REAL trouble!" I would rather then went with a 'let's force in a few more cameos' rather then the speration route.

Did anyone catch the Hulk trailer before X2? I just loved that quote near the end: "You're making me angry. I don't think you'll like me when I'm angry."

Oh yeah, X2 was all right, but I don't think it comes close to Spiderman. At least its a little better than the original.

and..

Spoiler (Highlight to view) -
I guess they are going to explain the Pheonix thing in the next movie as a second mutation or evolution of the species, kinda like Grant Morrison did with Beast and White Queen. That's the impression I got from the voice over during the crane shot of Alkali lake at the end. And I say this because, I too, belive Jean will be alive should another X-men movie is made.

Also, am I the only one that got the impression that when Mystique took the apearence of Senator Kelly, he acted a bit femenine? Perhaps I am seeing too much, or it was a nice touch, like a hint to the audience that he is not what he seems.

Oh, and Yuriko was a bit of a disappointment. I was expecting that since she was being manipulated, she at some ponint would wake up and develop some backstory. But instead she was Darth Maul

End of Spoiler

I just can't wait to see a third part. I hope they don't add any of that cosmic/time trivel parts of X-men.

I saw the movie last night. In general it was awesome. I thought the cameos at the mansion were too few. But it was cool to see Nightcrawler and Wolverine give a solid beat down in their scences. In general I thought Mystique was the character most improved in the second next to Iceman who was more of a cameo himself in the first. Speaking of cameos. Was Stan Lee in there? There are only two places I can think he could be, one is the museum the other is the cerebro segment.

I was dissapointed to find the ending of the movie differnt from the book

Spoiler (Highlight to view) -
In the book Jean goes blind, in the movie she dies

End of Spoiler

On the subject of Beast. I wouldn't mind seeing him in human form

Spoiler (Highlight to view) -
Although the guy in the movie doesn't have an gymnastic type look

End of Spoiler

But if they put him in his fur form I dont think they need to have him all CGI. In the remake of the Planet of the apes the make up job for the apes could be adjusted for Beast's look and give him stunts like nightcrawler's.

I picked up the reprint of God loves, Man Kills thursday and thought it was a good read.

It would be neat if Capcom could make some more figting games with the movie franchies, but that would be impossible due to the numerous studios they would have to go through.

Next movies on my list are Matrix Reloaded and Hulk. Geki SMASH!

Yeah it would work great, but that would take time.

Mystique and Nightcrawler take 6+ hours each. Beast would take AT LEAST that much time, if not more.

they'd either need to:
-Drop Mystique or Nightcrawler (and keep Sabretooth and Toad MIA)to clear up some make-up artist time.
-Use him VERY sparringly in scenes that would at most only have 1 other make-up mutant so those shoot days have shorter prep times
-Use a CGI Beast (think of Sully from Monsters Inc. done in the style of The Hulk)

Well, whatever they decide on, I hope he shows up soon... if I read "Beast was in the original draft but cut later due to the amount of time it takes to make-up fellow blue Mutants Nightcrawler and Mystique" one more time I'll murder everyone involved with the film making processes... ESPECIALLY THE MOTHERF**KING GAFFERS!!!!!!!!

'X2' SPEEDS TO $155 MILLION WORLDWIDE OPENING

Sunday May 4 1:45 PM ET

The massively hyped comic book adventure movie "X2: X-Men United" stormed cinemas worldwide over the weekend, earning $155.2 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates issued on Sunday.

The three-day tally included $85.85 million from North America, a figure that propelled the film to No. 4 on the list of openers, behind reigning champion "Spider-Man" and the two "Harry Potter" movies.

The international total was $69.3 million. The film was budgeted at about $110 million.

"X2: X-Men United," a sequel based on the popular Marvel comic books about a pack of ostracized mutant savants, was released by Twentieth Century Fox, a unit of News Corp.'s Fox Entertainment Group Inc . The studio partnered on the film with Marvel Studios, a unit of Marvel Enterprises Inc .

The film's ensemble includes actors Hugh Jackman ("Wolverine"), Halle Berry ("Storm") and Sir Ian McKellen ("Magneto"). The first film in the series, 2000's "X-Men," opened with $54.5 million in North America and went on to earn $157.3 million domestically and more than $290 million worldwide.

Nah, they aren't dead, Magneto fired them when he realized that he would be able to sell the superiority of mutant genetics much more easily with a naked supermodel instead of with a big freak and a guy sporting a prehensile tongue. ^_~ Besides, there were more than enough people running around in X-Men 2 as it was. If everyone had come back for the sequel the characters would have had to start wearing name tags for the audience to keep them straight.

Here's what Nightcrawler says in German for all the Deustch Impaired:

To Jean and Storm:

"Gehen sie raus! Ich bin der Bote des Teufels und die Ausgeburt des Bösen."
- Get out! I am the Devil's Messenger and the Spawn of Evil!

To Pyro and Entering X-Men:

"Guten Tag."
- Good day/Hello.

To Rogue:

"Bitte Schön."
- Your Welcome.

He also says the Rosary, but I'm so not typing that out for anyone...

Computer files include Entries for these names:

Kane, Garrison (Weapon X)
LeBeau, Remy (Gambit)
Lensherr, Erik (Magneto)
Maddicks, Artie (Artie)
Madrox, Jamie (Multiple Man)
Maximoff (2) (Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch)
Ming Coy, Xi'an (Karma)

And that's as far down the list as I could read in the time given...

Computer files included Folders for these subjects:

Cerebro (Well... Duh.)
Omega Red (Wolverine Nemesis, Russian Super-Soldier)
Project Wideawake (Sentinel Project that spawned Master Mold)
Muir Island (Location of Moira MacTaggart's Research Facilities)
Franklin Richards (Reality-Warping Mutant Son of Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman)

Confirmed Cameos:

Artie
Beast
Colossus
Jubilee
Shadowcat
Siryn
Mastermind

Cameo Notes:

In the comics, Artie is a pink-skinned mute who projects images to communicate. In the movie, he is changed into a punk ass kid who sticks out a reptilian tongue.

Beast appears as Dr. Hank McCoy on a television screen in a bar. He does not mutate as previously reported.

Colossus kicks ass and apparently has an I.Q. equivalent to his shoe size since everyone else in his reading circle is three feet tall. Our Russian friend has the literacy level of a second grader.

Jubilee is one of the mutants captured and taken to Alkali lake.

For the über idiot, Xavier mentions Kitty Pride at the end of the movie. (;

Siryn serves no other purpose other than to annoy people and wake them up.

Mastermind is Jason, or Mutant 143... If I remembered the number they gave him correctly. In the comic books, he is Jason Wyngarde. In the movie, he is the son of William Stryker with the same powers though he is given two different colored eyes.

...End Transmission.

The only thing I didn't like about Colossus was he had no accent! I mean, shit... they give Nightcrawler the German accent from Hell and Colossus is just some Cali surfer dude. Whatever.

In the audience, some people applauded when she got shut up. Funny audience :D

So was the little kid who was watching TV completely made up for the movie? And can Professor X actually do... THAT in the comic or was that made up too?

I just assumed he was big for his age... I know he's supposed to be Russian, but I didn't notice an accent, though. I guess the actor forgot to speak in a Russian accent.

Lensherr, Erik (Magneto)
Maddicks, Artie (Artie)
Madrox, Jamie (Multiple Man)
Ming Coy, Xi'an (Karma)

And that's as far down the list as I could read in the time given...

For the über idiot, Xavier mentions Kitty Pride at the end of the movie. (;

I could have swore mesmero has 2 different color eyes in the comic...but then again he's green...but has similar powers....maybe a mix.

Did any of you guys liked Daredevil better than X2? My friend went to see it Saturday and he said that he thought Daredevil was better, hopefully I'll be able to catch X2 on Thursday and I'll be able to judge for myself.

Anyway, did any of you think DD was better?

I did think Daredevil was better than X2, and have a lot of reasons, I'll give some, if you want to know the rest, ask me. I don't feel like listing it all. I'm a huge comic book fan though, and I think Daredevil has done the best job so far translating comic to movie. Despite other opinions I've heard, I think Affleck did great, and he really surprised me. X2 was good, but I'm tired of watching "Wolverine and the X-men" when I'm going to watch "The X-men". Some of you understand me, and Wolverine fans will hate me, but that's just how I feel. When I first got into comics, I was really into Wolverine and loved him. I still like him, but since I got into X-men because of Wolverine, I have seen so many other X-men I like better. I mean, sure, Wolverine has claws that come out of his hands and that's cool and all, but over time I grew to love a lot of the other characters more that Wolverine. My favorite X-man is the first, Scott Summers. I was disappointed with how small his role was in the movie. He IS the leader of the X-men, and they have yet to really show that. Also, he isn't really portrayed correctly. This isn't James Marsden's fault, it's the scripts. Anyway, I think the X-men that should definately be in the third movie as X-men are Beast and Angel, so at least all 5 originals will finally be in the movie. Beast doesn't have to be the blue furry version, he could just be the plain old original, which was just fine. I also think that Havoc should be in it. And if neither of those three are in it, then maybe some X-men that aren't well known should be thrown in, like say, Dazzler and Longshot (I think they are great, but of course, that would never happen, I know that). Oh, and when I say Daredevil was the best comicbook to movie translation, I do think it was better than Spider-man, but just barely. X2 is not bad by any means, it was a great movie, and better than the first. Still there are things that I hope will be fixed in the third installment.

My little SPOILER:

Spoiler (Highlight to view) -
I don't think that the third movie will be about the Dark Phoenix Saga. It's too much to do. Remember, she was just Phoenix before Dark Phoenix, and if they went into Dark Phoenix, I think they'd have to go into Shi'ar stuff and they won't do that, I know it. I don't know how they would explain Dark Phoenix without the Shi'ar, and if they did it withought the Shi'ar, it would probably suck. I think she'll just be Phoenix, but that is my opinion. Also, I did like the end when Wolverine told Cyke that Jean did make a choice, she chose him. For once it didn't show the two of them against each other. I really do feel that, at least in the comics, Wolverine does respect Cyclops. I do understand friction between them sometimes, but I'd like to see them get along more too. Iceman better ice up in X3!

End of Spoiler

Personally I think the best comic to movie translation was "Batman," some feel the the joker wasn't really the comics joker? I think that he was better. But yeah I feel you on the Wolverine and the Xmen bit. I'm glad however that they gave storm some more playtime but honestly I think they have to lose the white wig...it's just looks to hokey.

Yeah, Batman was the best comic movie. I also liked DD better than Spider-Man because it reminded me so much of Batman, who is my favorite superhero, BTW.

Also, I can completely understand the Wolverine and the X-Men thing. Especially the thing about Cyclops. I mean Cyke is THE SHIT! I'm not a big fan of Cyclops but he's in my top 5 favorite X-Men. He may be an uptight prick sometimes, but he's supposed to be like that. I thought he was portrayed pretty well in the first movie. I haven't seen the 2nd movie yet, but I heard that Cyke didn't do shit.

Jean (Famke is hot, ain't she) is cool with what I've heard with what goes on with her, but it was all about Storm with the X-women on this one, right? I heard she was the shit.

I think on the 3rd movie, if everything sets up how we all think it will, Cyclops will have a BIG part and will be all important and be the uptight prick we all know and love.

LETS HOPE FOR GAMBIT IN X3! I think Gambit will be a teenager or something. He'll be young, just to screw with the Rogue/Iceman thing. At least thats what I would have done. This time JUST have Gambit. Not a bunch of new characters, if that's gonna happen then the movie will have to be longer. Either that or characters like Cyclops would get the shaft....again.

Is Toad and Sabretooth supposed to be dead, or "comic book dead"... like they'll somehow come back?

I'm not sure about Toad, but Sabretooth is certainly alive.

It seems to me they're only missing because Mystique and Magneto didn't have time to look for them. (I'm sure at least Sabretooth will return in X3) and who knows since Hayter and the other script write wrote two different scripts that were later combined by Synger, maybe they actually brought Sabretooth back in one version of the script(Toad's unlikely, since Ray was to have other projects)

Random:
Reading someone call the movie "Wolverine and the X-Men" made me thing... if FOX is willing to give Elektra a spin-off, why can't they do so with Wolvie?

It would be nice if at the end of X3 Wolverine goes off on another little escapade, to be covered in a solo-movie, while the rest of the time gets to be fleshed out without him in X4.

To the best of my knowledge, he was made up for the movie. Without a name, more distinguising features, or knowing exactly how he was changing the television channels (yes, I know he was blinking his eyes...), but there was nothing that stood out enough for me to pin him asa So-and-So. After seeing what they passed off as Artie, we could call this guy the much-toted appearance of Leech for all I care. (;

Although I can't think of a time that Xavier has done something like that in the commics, I'm sure that it's not beyond him; shutting off people's minds if you will. Significant similiar uses of his powers could be the faked death of Magneto by Xavier in the Ultimate Universe and the Mindswipe of Magneto in normal continuity. They both deal with screwing with perception or halting thought process.

Even if Cyke had a bigger role in X2 Marsden is incapable of portraying him as a bonafide leader. They need to get someone better to fill the role.

Have you seen the Fantastic Four movie that was already made? IT WAS HORRIBLE! You can probably download it, because you can't find it in any video store or anything like that. It's the superhero movie that Marvel would like us all to forget.

Now, they have an Iron Man movie in the works. I'd LOVE to see a good Fantastic Four movie especially since they're my favorite superhero team (Damn the X-Men), I'm actually surprised that a Captain America movie hasn't been talked about yet. Then they can make Avenger movies after that.

Yes . Just to express my opinions and knowledge about Yuriko/Lady Deathstrike :

Spoiler (Highlight to view) -
While X2 is a WONDERFUL movie (even better than the first one),Yuriko didn't get a nice treatment . The movie producers gave her healing powers (okay, they wanted her to be an evil-female-Wolverine,but that's enough),put her just as Yuriko (but most of the movie promos showed her as Lady Deathstrike),made her a mutant (if I'm not mistaken, she's a human with cyborg implants in her body, not sure if her "new body" is made of adamantium, though),and the biggest disappointment : totally ignored the love/hate relationship between Wolverine and her (what would give more reason to their ferocious fights) .
Also,I didn't like her death . Like Mystique, she could be re-used in the third movie (and with MUCH LESS efforts involving make-up and special effects like our blue friend...Mystique is cool, but so is Yuriko),specially because Kelly Hu was GREAT !!
...Well,maybe they will come up with a ridiculous story about her becoming a cyborg or something like that...
