I wonder what caused the downfall? I know a lot of their games were released in the US, and Strikers 1945 seemed to be their most popular series here. Maybe this has to do with the decline of the arcade business...

By the way, I did love their "Tengai" game. Flying Samurai chicks!

Knew it was going to happen.

Maybe somebody will snap up the licenses, or they'll pull a Toaplan.

Although it isn't univerally well loved, Zero Gunner 2 was one of the most enjoyable shooters I've played in a long time. Somewhat innovative to boot, and tons of fun two player. Guess it will have to be their swansong, but they put out some great shooters while they were around.

is that the helicopter game where you rotate on a single point while flying around? that game is crazy hard.

there go my hopes of a cannon spike sequel...

Yeah, Tengai/sengoku Blade was their best shooter in my opinion too. This is sad, they were among my favorite developers. With Takumi and Raizing no releasing anything, is Cave (DoDonPachi, Guwange) our last 2D shooters developer alive?

oh well... I'm too depressed today

Yeah, it is kinda sad -- I read about it this morning on the news section of the Madman's Cafe. Although, let's remember that it doesn't mean that Psikyo's talents are no more -- maybe its former employees will find new work with companies that still willingly do shooters.

I think Takumi will come back into it - shooters are having a slight resurgance, I think. Certainly in terms of quality. They did release a shooter this year, so...why count them out?

There's still Alfasystem (shikigami), Triangle Service (XII Stag), Success (Psyvariar, Superlites), Raiden Jet coming to Xbox from Seibu Kaihatsu (right?). Who can say what Aiki will do, SNK is back (who knows!) and plus there's all the GBA stuff.

Don't lose heart!

You're kidding, right? ZG2 is one of the easiest shooters of all time, even set on the highest difficulty. It's still a blast to play though, especially with friends.

I'll second you on that. It is the easiest shooter I've ever played.

I'll third it. While I'm at it, I'll say that Psikyo are cool, but were pretty much my least favorite of the active shooter companies to begin with.

That's really sad news :(
The Flying Pancake gave me lots of fond memories.
Lets hope someone buys up the licence to their franchises and do us proud!
I'll go home later and play some Zero Gunner 2 on my DC :D

It's sad. I hated to see this happen. Great characters from their series as well, like the cute English girl Marion and the funny ass samurai Aine(Gunbird fame),as well as the German cutie Tavia, shall be missed.

BTW,Shiba and Simone from Cannon Spike were exclusive characters by Psyiko? Right? Or was it Capcom?

No, they were Capcom characters, merely adapted versions of Linn Kurosawa and the elves from Midnight Wanderers.

And is that hard to spell "PSIKYO" correctly?

It is ¬_¬

.... As for the Canon Spike characters is probably like the FF RBDM things, where the exclusive characters of Yumekobo feel on the license of SNK.

Damn it Psikyo; they did neat games.

I know Psikyo will be missed. I would have loved to see a fighting game with Tengai characters (especially the one with the white kimono, red pants, and the aviator goggles. I don't know her name, only that she's in Rid's sig. Av.).

Still, I'll begin to cry when Treasure goes out of business. What is Treasure up to these days, anyway?
