Well, i've heard people trying to host their own servers. But non of them succeeded due to the fact their cpu could'nt handle the amount of resources (A 3ghz cpu processor only managed to run the game with less lags n crashes..and they still do happen) which was required to at least serve an independent RO game. But if more and more people do that, i dun see a point in the game anymore cos it will become an Online rpg instead of MMORPG. Imagine, more and more people doing the same thing. RO would be ruined.
I think that whether the game would be "ruined" by smaller servers is a matter of personal taste. Personally, I would prefer a server with a smaller play area and only one or two hundred people on it walking around interacting with one another to the way RO was the last time I played it, which was a few people walking around, enormous hordes of near-permanently AFK merchants sitting around causing lag, and a bunch of people looting and annoying each other without any sort of moderation. Then again, I can see how the shear size and openness of the way RO is structured right now would be enjoyable for others, since it certainly has its charms. It's just not my thing, at least not for $60 up front and $10 each month after that, which is way more than I paid for games that I've enjoyed a lot more.
A 3ghz processor couldn't handle it, though... that's interesting. I wonder how many players and areas they tried loading up at once with that setup. I would've thought that a smaller map with fewer players would have been feasible, but then again, I know that there are MAME games that are being tested right now that need (currently) impossible amounts of processor power, even though they're not really anything special.

Hmm, a few hundred people? An independent server could'nt even handle 4 ppl in the game. Thats what i heard from some people. It's unplayable, unless someone is going to open it for just one player and let him play around with impossible stats and super rare weapons.

quote: I played like mad when the international (English) servers were up, and very little on the Chinese servers (my Mandarin is terrible!), so I haven't really played in a while. I'm a OC/killing merchant, usually the latter; I usually go and rush Ghast Heim Castle L2, kill things like Baph with level 10 Mammonite for exp and stuff over and over.
I'd really be honoured to be the guildmaster, but I can't really play as often as I used to because of my heavy workload :p I have lots of Bunny Bands to give away, so all the female characters in our guild can be rabbits :D
Sorry, I didn't see this post earlier. But, HOLY. I hope you meant that your a blacksmith and not a merchant.o_o;;; I still have a hardtime picturing a BS mvp-ing bapho. That's alot of money... I failed trying to get the mvp from bapho about 3 times. One time I thought I had him until I was KS-ed, by another priest. T.T

quote: try this one http://www.hanakimi.net/rag_setup.zip.torrent Is that download file in English though (noting the lack of a _e before the .zip)? It seems my original BitTorrent download has halted, and I'll probably need to try another -- but I'd just like to make sure this link here points to an English file before starting it. (A bit short on disk space -- maybe I'll go ahead and attempt it once I've cleaned out some stuff.)
I have no idea <_< But it is the same file size as the one posted on the website. Well I'm currently downloading this one. I'll comfirm if it's the correct one tomorrow. Well, You can get other bit torrent links here.

Well -- I went ahead and downloaded the .torrent file from the hanakimi site, and it indeed led me to the English file. Aside from the file size being exactly the same as the original English download I had tried, the installation procedure was in English. Also, the terms of agreement mentioned the English site's URL.
So, er -- yes, the .torrent file at the hanakimi site is for the English version of the game.

Ape shit!!! I left this downloading and went and played FvsZ in hopes it be done and it says 10 more hours!!!! What the crap? How can I make bitotrrent download faster?!
Hrm... that's not really something you yourself can control; it depends on how many people can also upload to you, plus how much bandwidth you need to dedicate yourself to uploading to other people.
Now, there are different .torrent files leading to different sets of connections, if you'd like to try alternate ones if your current one is giving you trouble (i.e. if your download rate seems stuck at 0 KB/sec or is otherwise incredibly slow.) You might need to dedicate a separate 570.4 MB to the new download file.
