Its not a VS game. In order for it to be a VS game, it has to be along the lines of Capcom vs SNK, or Marvel Vs Capcom. BAsically, the characters of one company has to go up against the characters of Capcom.

Onimusha Buraiden is a fighting game... not a VS game.

Actually, for fighting games Naruto is using the correct term. In Japan, fighters are called VS games (or VS grapple games).

This VS fighting thing we have going on in the west is solely a western creation, which has come to mean any type of fighter which allows switching of characters on the fly.

Naruto being from France, this is an understandable area of confusion.

It could be considered Onimusha 1 Vs Onimusha 2

actually, it was created as a way to describe crossover titles from different companys/totally different characters.

i.e xmen-vs-sf

if any game was called a 'vs' game because of the tag feature, then in turn:

tekken tag vs
power instinct gaiden vs
groove on fight vs

see where i'm going with this?
the whole idea that anything with the 'vs' title equals a tag battle is not a westernized thing. it's how the companies provided the games that crossed over with each other that did it to itself.

capcom vs snk
snk vs capcom
-no tag system-

NGPC version actually does have a Tag system (and since it's not out yet, MVS could too for all we know)

Yes, there's a " tag team " option in it.

Kind of off topic, but can anybody name the first tag team fighting game? ;D

Since I don't know the right answer I'll go for a techincality! The first tag team fighting game (on the XBox) was DoA 3!

obviously it does. but i believe that the prior poster was talking about arcade/home fighters(not portables...). i wouldnt automatically count that game as a 'vs' style of game(as we've been talkin bout) due to you having the OPTION to pick a tag mode. games specifically built with the tag feature in mind is what i thought was the topic we were discussing(myself and the other poster).

the first tag fighter i believe was power instinct 2's semi sequel(no, not Groove on Fight). it was a slight upgrade that had a tag feature. you can find info on it over at the KLOV.
