Wind Waker supposedly takes place hundreds of years after Ocarina of Time, but something has always bugged me. At the end of Ocarina of Time, Link is returned to his original time (as a child) after he defeats Ganon in the future. So going by this logic, did the alternate future where Ganon took over Hyrule really happen?

I'm curious because in Wind Waker, when you go into the temple where you get the Master Sword, you see stained glass window images of the 7 sages (Impa, Saria, King Goron, Ruto, etc). If there are sages, then the future in OoT where Ganon takes over Hyrule had to have happened, right?

To further complicate matters, there's the last end scene in Ocarina of Time, where young Link meets up with young Zelda in the castle.

Could someone please elaborate and clear this up for me?

stories of time changing are always hard to understand or have something which is so confusing, in OoT everything did happend Ganon did take over hyrule, and it will take place after 7 u( the fairy Navi ,I think) meet link, all he did is to travel throught time ( 7 years ahead) and he fight the Evil King Ganon, why did he travel and didn't wait??? I don't know, maybe that's a part of the story they couldn't tell.
anyway time travel stories are full of wrong stuff.

Well, it's not exactly that way. In OoT Link is put to sleep for 7 years in the Light Temple until he's strong enough to fight Ganon. But, for some reason, he's actually able to travel back through time by putting the Master Sword back in its place. And, as far as I know (I'm playing the game right now, but I know the story from here and there), afer defeating Ganon he's changed history, cuz Zelda is in the castle as if nothing had happened.
