Got this idea from the shmups forum :)
I'm so lazy that I'll quote the original poster!

"Some peoples "avatars" are obvious,
whereas some are quite obscure. So, tell us
what your avatar means to you."

Also, it'll be interesting to know what kind of avatars you tend to choose.

My choice of avatars has always followed one rule: they must be cute females.
The reason is because since I'll be looking at my avatar a lot, I might as well choose something which I can look at a lot!

As for my avatar, it's Akari for me!
She's very cute and has a cute Kansai accent and can defeat demons and stuff and is everything a man should look for in a woman... err, except that she's too young ;_;
I want to see grown up akari...

*wonders what's in my cup of coffee, and whether I should drink more*

I have about 8 avatars. keep refreshing the page to see them all.

1)vampire hunter D - because he's so badass.
2) ??? - taken from the zelda page, I'm pretty sure its ganon, but I haven't played it yet.
3) megatron (from transformers g1) and cobra commander (from gi joe) - the two most badass villains from my childhood.
4) keitaro remembering his childhood promise - because love hina is my favorite anime, and the picture is too cute.
5) malik from yu-gi-oh! duel monsters - because he's probably the best part about the show.
6) mr. driller - I saw some pics of mr. driller in the next moto gp game, and I felt I just HAD to make an avatar out of it.
7) mai from svc chaos - nice rack.
8) xellos from slayers next - "sore wa himitsu desu!"

Good idea, I'm always interested in hearing different peoples' interpritations of things. As for my avatar, I've used two thus far in my stay here, both of which are offered by the BBS itself. As for what they mean to me personally, that should be easy enough to figure out. Really, it's not very hard.

Couldn't that same discription be used to describe Kouran Li of Sakura Taisen fame?

I just like Bison and out of the pre-made avatars that the Prof has made available for us, his just seemed the most appealing to me and the least used. I'm too lazy to make my own avatar and besides, I feel like I'm 'associated' with this avatar anyway. If you see a Bison avatar, especially with CvS artwork, it has to be me!

Questions/Comments. JJWE, love your avatar. It's funny and sweet- it really shows Shingo's happy-go-lucky spirit.

BlackNinjaVinney, I also like your av. Who was the original character in your av? I wondered that for a long time.

RugalBernstein. Your alien avatar spooks me out! I would almost ask you to change it but at the same time, I have 'associated' the alien with you. I know you've had other avs before.

I like the 'eclectic' variety of avs on this forum. And seeing them change over time kinda shows how people grow and change their likes and dislikes. It's cool that so many creative people are in this forum.

*GURGLEGURGLE!* My avatar is Hyatt from Excel Saga. I saw that picture on the most recent ES DVD, and I had to make it into something. My previous avatar was the AWESOME Yamazaki picture from Cap VS SNK because I'm a huge Yamazaki fan.

As for "rules" for picking avatars, I pick either cute girls or zombies or characters that I think are really cool like Yamazaki. Cat girls get bonus points and are given priority over normal cute girls and zombies. I can't think of more specific reasons for picking avatars, but hopefully you get the idea. Cute girls or spooky stuff.

My avatar is Vanessa Z. Schneider, from P.N.03, as all of you may know. She's sexy, she's badass, and she dances while attacking!! Kind of a more serious Ulala, or something like that. My tag explains it shortly.

About the trend I follow in the avatars... Well, I usually choose them among the things I like in that moment, or whatever occupies my mind. They are usually from videogames, althoug manga/anime is not rare. Women are more frequent in my avs, but I also use male characters.

My Card Fighters sprite is a combination of a bunch of sprites with lots of edits to each. The base was Kyo (99 one). I edited out the flowers, fixed the hand, changed the jacket (took out all the wierd pocket things) and colored it black.
The hat is from Terry. I can't exactly remember, but I think the face is K'. Not totally sure on that anymore, though. Also, I made his hair look like me old sideburns, which I grow on and off from time to time.
I even payed attention to th stats. I made sure that I wasn't powerfuler then Terry Bogard ^_^

I always like this kind of threads...

My avatar is the almighty wizard Rincewind from the Discworld fantasy parody saga. A natural born coward who can't cast a single spell. Specifically it's the design for the first (of 3) computer game, that's why the outline pretends to seem a PC monitor.

For the trend, well, I've only had 4 avs until now, for various reasons. Perhaps the main criterion would've been funny characters: First of all Shingo from the BBS (my favorite KOF character), next was the ugliest version of Solid Snake from MG2: Solid Snake's ending (I couldn't stop laughing when I saw "that") and "Himawari" from Crayon Shin Chan, a lot of fun and cuteness, all together.

And that's all folks.

EDIT: Ooops, seems it's "criterion" not "criterium". Fixed.

I've been too lazy to make a new avatar, or think of what I would make as a new one. But my Avatar is of Russell from Gorillaz. At the time it's what I was listening to a lot of. I love the concept of the group, the music, and the animation. Also a big fan of the Bizarre Adventures of Jojo OVA. So with Russell's mystical hat, I tie the two together.

For my new avatar, I'm still looking. Thinking something in the lines of Sentai or masked wrestlers.

My avatar is "The Reaper" from Silhouette Mirage. Specifically, the US Playstation version. The Reaper was added in by Working Designs when they tweaked the original version around. I can't play the game for beans, but I liked the concept, ideas, and character designs.

For choices, I tend to go with obscure in addition to the requisite "cool" attribute. I usually remember users by what image they have as an avatar before I actually rememeber their name, so having a unique one is something I do so that I will (hopefully) be seen as someone different. In this respect, my avatar is perfect for me, since I have never actually seen this image anywhere on the 'net before (I scanned it in off the back cover from the manual).

Since my golden years I have been fascinated by detectives, I have read about them... I was really glad when I got it touch with Meitantei Conan as I say an "artistic" sence on the whole idea; to represent my respect for that gender I have choosen an avatar from that series; but instead of choosing the irrealistic perfect detective I rather heed a person who is closer to my reality; the always drunk, irresponsable and formal dressing detective Kogorou Mouri, I have also choosen one of his best moments: the Hang Over.

For those interested the Tag comes from Kaitou Kid, saga that you could consider "twin" of Detective Conan, as it's from the same autor but this timeit tells the story of a thief; my tag, detective Hakuba Saguru has vowed to capture that criminal; not that Kaitou kid was given birth long before Conan and even Yaiba.

My avatar is currently Jay and Silent Bob cosplaying as Dan and Blanka... because I rather like the style of Steven Silver and said to myself, "Baghead, you're good artist... okay I lie... Baghead, you own a pencil and some paper, why don't you try to rip-off that style!" and then I was all "But I can'ts rips-off that style! Masters will be mad at me!" then I was "NO! You must rip-off the style!" and I went "NO!! Masters will be mad! Baghead mustned rips-off Clerks!!!" then I was all "RIP-OFF CLERKS! DO IT!!!".... and I realized this sounds less like Gollum and more like I'm an idiot everytime I type something else so I stopped.

yeah, so my avatar is just me wanting to draw the cartoon Jay and Silent Bob as Dan and Blanka.... I also have a Kim Possible style Sakura to add to the collection once I have time to make a new tag!

although normally my Avatar is just any picture I can shrink into a 96x96 squre and it makes sense.

This current avatar's meaning to me is... well... I like Tron and until I get off my butt and find webspace to host an image on, I basically have no avatar. I have an art-decoish fox that I designed that I usually use for these sorts of things, but again- Image hosting. Plus I need to redraw the fox in Adobe Illustrator. I'm unhappy with the original linework's bumpiness... *cough* You all have never seen the image, so I'm not sure why I'm ranting.
Suffice to say, I like Tron even though her voice actress is Angelica of "Rugrats" infamy.

Mine would be an original character of mine, Barbariccia, who uses a coffin as a weapon and such. I use her just because I guess I'm proud of her turning out as cool as she did or something.

When I first started posting I had a character from the Snow Queen Quest of the first Persona game, Yuriko Yamamoto, who I really liked the design and backstory of.

Genrally I use either Megami Tensei-related avatars or make my own. I always like bizarre characters, and MegaTen has no shortage of those. I had Carol J from Soul Hackers for a long time on another board. I may switch to him if I get bored. He's badass. Like another favorite of mine, I-no, he uses a guitar but for another purpose. He summons demons from it.

Hum, right now I'm using a pic of Corto Maltes, who is an awesome character from a Spanish comic book. I also used a long time a pic of Dream, from the Sandman series.
I tend to choose pics of characters I like a lot, or that have that "something" appealing. I really enjoy black and white pics, don't know why.

I've had a couple avatars.

1) Tatsuya from Persona 2 with Philemon, because the Persona 2 games rock.
2) Cammy in the water with a kitten from Cannon Spike, because it's a severely underrated game.
3) Gackt. Gackt is hawt.
4) Maya from Persona 2, because the Persona 2 games rock.
5) My current one, that I've had up before, is Enishi from Rurouni Kenshin. I got the picture from some old wallpaper I had.

Magus, I love your tag. I HATE Bao too, so it's always great seeing him getting beat up or destroyed...

I suppose the one I have now is explanatory. It is of the Iron Man infinite. They are aim icons made by someone that has posted here before and they are pretty damn cool. Only one of the two infinites I can perform the other being the Blackheart infinite. The game obvious MvC2 that I am still playing after its 2000 release. I’m sure it’s my most played game. It usually means a Saturday night with the fellows who are much much much better then me. My friend seems to be getting better and better. I marveled at his Iron Man Flight cancel infinite quite nice!

Yes, that is true. Bao was just a stupid idea to begin with.

And thanks, John Cleese does kick major ass!

LOL, you don't want to know what I thought it was...

Anyway, so I drew a 4-color pic of Motoko Kusanagi from GitS on the picboard and decided to use it for my av. No deep meaning, I just happen to like Stand-Alone Complex.

There are a few oddballs here and there like myself who like Bao but that's off topic...

My longest running av was of a pic someone drew for me of a character named Supa Cool I came up with. I thank Freeter for the original hosting of the av. A while after Freeter hosted a pic of Scorpion from Martial Masters. Recently, Miss TK did a nice redraw of him, Nate did a Carmen Sandiego, and I'm currently using MC Hammer since I like his music (don't give me that look...) but I plan on changing it soon.

She's very cute and has a cute Kansai accent and can defeat demons and stuff and is everything a man should look for in a woman... err, except that she's too young ;_;
I want to see grown up akari...

*wonders what's in my cup of coffee, and whether I should drink more*

Somehow i missed this thread

Well my avatar is Saga Gold Saint from the anime "Saint Seiya" in his evil personality (Like gemini he got "two faces").

He was my favorite character in the series from the gold saints and i'm a gemini myself , maybe later i will will put an avatar of some other favorite characters of mine.

I would change mine, but I can't find a good server that will allow me to link to an image... unless the Prof would be so kind as to allow me to host one...

As for the current avatar, it's Honfu from Real Bout Fatal Fury, RBFF Special, and RBFF2. He by my favorite SNK fighter in the Fatal Fury series, and maybe for all SNK fighting games. I know he appeared in CvS and CvS2, but only as a cameo? That pissed me off so bad.

Who can deny the silly l33tness of his nunchaku specials?

By the way, are there any spriterips of his Capcom vs SNK sprites?

And coolest are your graphics.

I hope to be as good as you one day.

Until then, it's practice!, practice!, practice!, as Andy Bogard would say.

Walküre from UFO Princess Walküre, the Manga, not the TV series. A brain damaging manga, for a cute and hero damaging character...
Manga drawn by Kaishaku, who draws the Kotetsu Tenshi Kurumi Manga, and who seems to be in a 'Neko mimi maid' (cat eared maid) phase...

By the way, Riskbreaker, it's Taeko (big breasted) and Tina (breast masher) from Ai yori Aoshi.
