quote: Oh, and lastly, Japanese business is ALL ABOUT PRODUCT RECOGNITION. It doesn't matter if the product is shoddy or if the recognition is obtained through surreptitious or dubious methods; Japanese businesses tend to be a tad shady, anyway (if money laundering is legal in your country, what do you expect?). This is why you don't see more companies suing doujin artists. While I personally think the whole thing about it " pushing the PS 2 to the limits " is crap, and payoffs were involved, this is beside the point; the true point is he uses boobies to sell the game WHETHER YOU ARE WILLING TO FACE THIS FACT OR NOT. Why in god's fucking name would they make a bloody "bathing suit beach volleyball" spin off of a FIGHTING GAME if this weren't the case? Boy, I can't wait to hear your answer for that one...
I think you need to switch to decaf.
Is it using fan service to sell the game? Of course it is. There's no doubt about that. But if 'boobies' are the only reason it was made, why was there no topless mode included in the unmodded game? Why draw the line at bikinis when nudity would have sold more copies?
While the game wouldn't look as good, DOAXVB could have been done on the PS2. Yes, a MS payoff was likely, but I doubt it would have been equal to the increased profit a PS2 version would have made, especially considering how anti-xbox Japan is.
I thought doujin weren't normally illegal in Japan, though I admit to not knowing all the details. Nintendo sued someone over a Pokemon one a while back, but that was a specific situaion since I don't think they brought every Pokemon doujin artist to court.

Rid's response is correct. For whatever bizarre ethics reason they have, purely adult games are pretty much nonexistant for home consoles in Japan; they're more or less for the PC only. Take the PC Engine or Super Famicom ports of Dragon Knight, for example; all of the explicit nudity was cut, in favor of simple "naughty" scenes. As a note, I don't drink coffee, smarmy gits just happen to get up my nose. Half of what I said in the original post was only poking fun at him, anyway, but this was apparently lost on somebody.
The bottom line of my original post was that I seriously doubt he cares at all about this, if he's even aware of it. If he'd be so upset about his "daughters" being put in such a situation, he'd A.) probably do more about the doujin market, and B.) more importantly, wouldn't have made them a bunch of bikini wearing floozies in mediocre volley-ball game, anyway.
Oh, and the particular doujin you're thinking of involved Pikachu being anally raped. Nintendo sued the artist (who was actually a WOMAN...) for "destroying the dreams of children". An "extreme case", if you will. Out of all the companies out there, I'd consider nintendo one of the "most likely to care", anyway.

I like the idea that somebody not conceived of and sat down and drew a story of Pikachu getting the short end of the stick [so to speak] but thought it would be a good idea to print up and sell copies of the story in the belief that others would be interested in the concept. Fandom, in all it's forms, is an interesting thing.

quote: It's amazing, indeed. I think this incident also demonstrates that these companies keep an eye on the doujin market, they just normally don't care, maybe for the same reasons Big West didn't care when Fasa corporation ripped off all their designs for " Battletech" ("It shows they like our programs!").
Hmm, speaking of which, any recollection as to how the whole Karin thing worked in Street Fighter Zero 3. I thought I rememberd Karin being a made-up chara in a doujin that was popular enough for Capcom to decide to "put" her in the newest Zero game. Did they just pluck her out of the comic and put her in because doujins are based on their copyrighted work in the first place? I'm sure the artist was overjoyed, either way, but did he have a choice I wonder...
Maou
About Karin, she appeared in "Sakura Ganbaru", a Capcom-authorized manga done by the same artist who did the ones based on Cammy. Whoever was working on Zero 3 liked her enough, they put her in the game. It wasn't a doujin...
