Completely overlooked this in the announcement!
Tales of Phantasia is due to be released as an OVA in 2004. If they make it in the same fashion as the audio dramas... woohoo!!! The audio dramas were awesome!

Ohh, OAV means they'll be able to go for some really nice quality animation. I can't wait to see this...

I guess no one wants to make a Valkyrie Profile OVA.

It is my guess that it's because VP has only one part (?) or that Enix used up too much money on the merge with square (dunno if that succeeded)...

I do like OVAs, because they have a set start and set end, they don't change due to the popularity of the series (like the case of DBZ, where Toriyama was forced to produce a lot more chapters that the ones he planned... that explains why whole chapters where wasted on watching a butterfly and a lake and no more than 3 minutes of actual action -thing that didn't happened with the first DB saga, saga that I worship-)

About the Ovas, if I got the chance, I'll grab them; that's for sure.

Could be pretty awesome...if only I could scrounge the time to finish that incredible game---20 hours or so in and about to enter the imperial capital (Dhaos's place, and it's been three months so I can't even remember the empire's name, the shame!). Hopefully the PS verion's fantastic select-button map conversations will remind me!

But imagine! ARCHE in a full OAV! Cuter than you can handle~ Given that the short Tales of Eternia animation had chara design just like the game (granted, I think ToE's charas looked atrocious, especially after ToP's clean designs and ToD's quality work), the Phantasia production should be just as good. Excitement!

Actually they changed Mutsumi Inomata's style to a more commercial one in the ToE anime, and didn't looked that good. Plus the series kinda sucked. Hopefully this ova will have better production...

And while I like Fujishima´s designs a bit more (my favorite artist), I found Inomata's design in ToD, ToE and ToD2 to be beautiful, with such delicate women and the fanservice boys :P

I guess I'm in the minority - I liked the anime design better. And I liked the story, though it was simple. Not great, but still good.

Oh well ^_^

I'd like to see this new one too...

That's nice to hear ^_^
BTW, if it's been announced, which studio is involved in this project? Will it be Studio I.G again?

And I've not seen the ToE anime yet. Why do people say it's not really that good? I saw it at a local Dvd store the other day and was thinking of getting it...

My views on it: It started in a promising way, but nothing else. The animation quality dropped horribly towards the second half, the characters didn't acted faithful to their game counterparts (specially Keel and Farah), and the story was cliched and really week, with a couple of turns that dissapointed me. Not to mention that the story is unrelated to the one in the game... Check it at your own risk, I would spend the money on something else.

Hee, you may have something, Rid...it could've been that ToE Rid had that midrift shirt that made him looky doofy to me (perhaps all girls notice this kind of thing in female chara design, but seeing as how I've never seen any midrift guys in real life..!). Don't get me wrong on the Inomato's work--I thought ToD's designs were astounding, but somehow ToE's seemed, well, distressing. To my mind, Farah is the ugliest female lead I've ever seen in an RPG. The rest of the folk didn't knock me out the way Stahn and Ruthee did, either. Hmm, ah well, cheers for ToP animation! Given the crisp, orthadox-yet-strangely-original ToP designs, I think they'll translate well to animation.
