i got a new one today after my last one broke. i decided to play Guilty Gear X2, but it wouldn't run. so i take it out and the cd's suddenly all scratched up. WTF?

hehe. Sony loves that shit.
I bought a refurbished one and it broke after two weeks and I had to return it for another. The 'new' one had a drive that wouldn't open.
So I upgraded to a NEW new one, which has yet to crap out, but it's only a matter of time...

I've been too lazt to get mine fixed, but I should within a week... it won't play anything except for select DVD movies and PS2 games. Blargh.

anyway going back to the main topic.
my PS2 had problems loading up Contra:SS I had to lay it flat as oppose to use my vert stand to play it.
On top if that when I wanted to mod my system, I was told not too as my cd lens or my lens track is weak because it takes a noticebly long time to load up.
Does anyone know the differences or revisions in the models of PS2's? I bought mine when they first came out and I picked up a newer model (as in I lifted it with my hand) and it was noticbly lighter then my first gen PS2. I was hoping there'd be some benifit to having a first gen but guess it's not like the old PSOnes

Question for all of you with PS2s that went bad... how do you keep your system when you play? Having the PS2 in the vertical position is begging to wear out your drive motor unusually fast. Another thing that can contribute is leaving discs in the PS2 for extended periods of time when not playing them. The clampers in the drive can get worn out.
A friend of mine knows a lot more about this but hasn't been around in awhile. I just know that these two things can help keep your PS2 alive longer. I keep mine in the horizontal position and don't leave discs in for obscenely long amounts of time, and my PS2 has been fine. I got it the month after launch, too.

well, great. they offered me "kajuto kojin" (or however you spell it) for the messed up game and traded a "new" ps2 for the defunct one. so i take it out of the box and expose it to room temperature -- you guessed it, it melted. what the hell are your products made of, sony?

Horizontally. I now keep it vertical because it won't load anything otherwise.
If there is any reason mine went bad it's probably from playing CDs and DVDs overnight.
