I guess the DC version is still the best incarnation of MvC2.

Good. I'm jealous enough about CvS2 to have this to pine over. Sour grapes? Definitely.

LOL! Lets see what all those MvC2 fanboys will say now...

But I don't see why Capcom should be like this... maybe the speed of MvC2 wouldn't support good online play. It's strange that CvS2EO is faring well on the online scene. Some say that there is hardly any lag!

The fact that MvC2 is coming to Xbox at all is puzzling to me. I don't understand why people like that game so much. I'd like to see some new games... like CFAS, if it even happens to exist anymore.

I don't really care about MvC2... I'm more of a fan of Cap vs SNK anyway. I've got MvC2 on DC and I don't really care about online play there (I don't really play it anymore). I don't want another copy of that one if all they did is make everyone playable from the start and add online play... I'd only buy a 2nd copy of anything from the CapvsSNK series.

As for fanboys... dancing around and going "we Console X owners have something YOOU don't!" sounds pretty fanboyish to me...

Yeah... I'm tired of MvC2. I love having Felicia and Jill in the game (I LOVE THAT!), but otherwise, I thought it was too spastic with 3 on each team. That, and there was no story at all. I like my fighting games to have SOMETHING going on other than the fights. Capcom's starting to disappoint me. They're doing way too many straight ports of out-of-date games (take the RE series for example... two new ones and then ports of PLAYSTATION 1 games). They're really coming off as lazy to me.

Now, if you posted a topic gloating about how the XBox version of CapvsSNK2 magically didn't have online play anymore, THEN you'd have gotten my attention...

Exactly. I was a little disappointed when I bought DC Resident Evil 2, hoping it'd have a little something extra, being on a more powerful system and all. Very little to speak of, if anything, I recall. Of course, since I didn't have the PS version, I didn't care. However... who do they think they're selling the GC version to? Kids who grew up with N64 and are now old enough to play RE, and have never had the chance on PS? I just don't see why RE2 and RE3 need to be released YET AGAIN without any significant enhancements. I liked the GC RE1 remake, but that's probably only because of the sentimental attachment I have to RE1. RE0 didn't interest me.

Hell, RE2 came out on N64, too. This just strikes me as silly.

As for the MvC2 remarks, yeah, I don't like the teams of three very much, and the character roster is insane. Too many characters can actually be a problem! I thought MvC1 was a very, very cool game, with all the old Capcom and Marvel characters as helpers, and characters like Hiryu, Megaman, and Venom making their first appearances in a fighter. Loved it in arcades, and it was one of the chief reasons I imported a DC before the US release. But MvC2 just seems like a showcase of Capcom's old sprites, thrown together for little reason. The new characters, in large, don't interest me. Well, on the Marvel side. On the Capcom side, I did like Ruby Heart, and seeing Hayato and Jill in 2D was cool, too bad their sprites looked fuzzy and awful.

I like to think that if an MvC3 happened, it'd tone things down to the MvC1 level, but I don't think they can go back after they've gone where they are now.

And as for the Xbox Live remarks... yes, Xbox fanboys can be annoying, as any fanboys can. However, right now, I think MS has the only network capable of playing CvS2. Being trapped on dialup, i hate to say it, but this game just can't be played on 56k. It wouldn't work, especially if broadband lags. And Sony and Nintendo allow dialup users on their networks. As much as I love that they're inclusive, I can't see CvS2 working on a network with low speed connections on it. And if it did come out for them and it was broadband only, I'm sure there'd be a good deal of fuss and anger over it, and a lot of people trying to get on whose connections can't handle it, and...

Yeah. It'd be ugly.

Why do you expect Capcom to rework their games? I prefre what they're doing, not spending money on remakes but making new games (RE4 and all of their new Gamecube stuff).

It's not that I expect every one of their games to be reworked, it's just that when they rerelease them on other systems with no new enhancements, it seems pointless. Case in point: RE2.

Resident Evil 2 appeared on Playstation, Playstation again (Dual Shock version, did this come out in the US?), PC, N64, Dreamcast, and now it's coming for GameCube. If they want to keep throwing the same game around, it'd be nice to see them at least do something significant to it. Most of the ports are excusable, but why RE2 and RE3 are coming out for GC, I just don't know.

Sure, it saves dev costs by not remaking the games, and it probably makes a little money, but it seems unnecessary.

I'm glad they're making more new games. I'm excited about Viewtiful Joe and Killer 7. But their whoring-out of the RE franchise is crazy.

So am I , Viewtiful Joe is looking like a excellent time killer for me. But too many ports of not too old and still fairly available games has sort of a smugness on capcoms part. Like they are thinking 'heh, people will buy this anyways'

Don't forget about the Windows releases of Resident Evil 2 and 3...

Regarding MvC2 on Xbox: Maybe the "lag issue" that so many people seem to be hung up on (I haven't played it for myself) would cause more problems in this game than in Capcom vs SNK 2?

Personally, I preferred the Capcom roster a lot more than the Marvel side. I'd like to play the same game without the Marvel characters involved; they just never appealed to me or seemed very fun. Also, it felt like a crime to have that many characters and no random select.

I dont think it was the speed issue since they had the network mode back on DC, but its most likely the licensing problems.

But who cares MVC2 SUCKS nyuk nyuk.

Well, the fanboys I was talking about before were the first couple of posters who seem to be owners of PS2 or something and were doing the "Ha ha! Awww, XBox owners gonna cryyyyyy? Ha ha, we've got online play on an old game and you DON'T!" thing. That's the fanboy behavior I was talking about.

As for MvC2, I liked seeing old Marvel characters I hadn't played with in years, as well as Capcom characters I've never gotten to play with as well as old favorites. Other than that, there was no story and the gameplay was too spastic.

As for the old ports, I'm still waiting for Bionic Commando to come to PS2...

People who have e-mailed Capcom regarding the online play have gotten the answer back that it was a 'licensing issue.' Maybe since Activision's got it now, they (Activision or Marvel) wouldn't let them release it with any significant modifications (online play)?

Didn't the PS2 version have an art gallery (and a decent amount of it being good)? If so, will this be in the Xbox version? Didn't it also have a few (minor) bug fixes?

Well the real screwy thing about Capcom re-porting these old games is they aren't even coming in a collection. Aren't RE2 and RE3 for Gamecube going to be sold separately? probably, both for 50 bucks each? Capcom should include them together at a reasonable price for such old games.

For 40 USD but yeah.. separately.

With such aging games, I think 20 USD at a maximum would've been reasonable...

*LOL* That'll probably be half of Shoryuken.com's members. O_O

I'm very proud to own the DC version. It's second to none. A gem all on it's own. I'm still amazed at the cast number(56). It's the largest for a fighter yet. A pretty ground-breaking game. IMO.

You're right. Third strike's great, but my favorite's the CvS series because I love seeing my SNK favorites in an awesome Capcom style. Not to mention that you could use characters you love from BOTH companies at once.......

Third Strike was great, but I wouldn't say it's the best (except maybe on the animation/art end).

No way, dude, if they released 3S for Xbox Live, I'd crash at my friend's place whenever I could, just so I could play online. The only way you could get me there faster is if Garou and SSF2T were out for Xbox Live, too.

Undead Fred got taste!

Yes,I loved seeing SNK's characters Capcom style. The art was amazing, but Kinu Nishimura is just amazing anyway! And Capcom's sprites were a fresh change from those choppy pixelated sprites we're used to seeing from KOF.

And yet the only thing that interests me about "SNK vs Capcom" is seeing Capcom's characters in that choppy, pixelated, KOF-ish sprite form.

Personally, I'd have liked to have a game where they both collaborated on the engine (maybe a mix of the two styles, maybe something new), but then have Capcom do the SNK characters and SNK do the Capcom characters.
