Don't recall this posted here, although I can be wrong. Anyway, here's the link.

They talk about having already 32679 games (PC games?) and 418 shareware...
Permanently broad band connected, massive on-line games, wireless periferics, and they say it's technically waaaay beyond Xbox and the others... perhaps too much promises, ain't they?

Himawari chan ain't she cute?

I bet its a hoax. Along the lines of http://mavav.org /. I mean they seem to not know what the hell they are doing and that ugly 3d render of the console makes me want to cry.

Edit: Grammar monster bit me. It hurts.

Given that it's called "Phantom" a hoax seems FAR more logical then it being real.

Yeah well remember that initially they give really stupid names to consoles before they are released. Like PS2: TREX and Cube: Dolphin. Now if someone calls a console Penguin, then we got a winner.

Yeah but let's look at it in a literal sense. TREX brings to mind the image of the ultimate killing machine, Dolphin a playful friend... do these not accurately represent the systems they code named? (PS2 killed the competion, no? and Gamecubes for PLAYING games and nothing more)

But what is a "Phantom"?

A Phantom, to put it in the most cliched sci-fi/anime terms: a ghost, something that doesn't really exist.... much like hard evidence of this uber-concel

I don't doubt I over anaylized TREX and Dolphin, but I'm certain that's why it's called "Phantom"

That's a good name too! It brings to mind a delicious Chinese New Year Diner! (however, from personal experinece that's far less likely to actually exisit then a "phantom")

They're obviously lying about the number of games. That would be a shitload of distributing licenses to purchase.

For now, its vapor-ware, but to its credit, I've been hearing about its development for two years, which is longer than most vapor-ware lasts.

ok - here's what I know about it. I don't think it's fake...some guy found the office in florida. Very small. The basic idea is that it's a sort of PC based console which will allow pre-existing games to be downloaded and played online for a fee. New games would be made for it too of course. will it fail? no doubt.

I doubt this will ever see the light of day, and will rest quite nicely beside the Nuon, the M2, and other such vapor ware ideas. Or if it does come out it can sit nicely beside the 64 DD and the Virtual Boy...(They'd make good friends, really..)

Nuon came out man ^_^ see here

Woah, didn't even know it came out. I guess that means it was one of the least promoted console releases..Well Ever...

But yeah, I guess it should rest beside the Vitrual Boy instead..Not that it's a much better fit...:)

Back in the day, companies had to actually have a product out on the shelves for sale when they made announcements. None of this make-believe, here's-what-we-hope, don't-know-if-or-when-it'll-be-released, phooey. That's why these dot-com failures kept happening - people were getting rich for spewing hot air and not using any elbow grease.

Why, the reporter that had the scoop was able to actually see the device in action and try it out for himself.

Barefoot.
In the snow.

Both ways.

That's part of why I like it that nobody talks about the planned SNES CD attachment as a vaporware failure... because Nintendo never announced it.

Of course, then there's 3DO and Matsushita's M2, which they never shut up about and it never really saw the light of day.

Oddly enough, M2 hardware did exist... I don't know what powered it, but they had dev kits available for people to use, for the purpose of arcade hardware and such. I was in contact with them about it for a while. There still might be webpages detailing this stuff out there. I doubt anyone's actually using it in anything, though...
