what i'm wondering is if he really quoted that guy from Office Space, or if the writer of the article was just trying to be funny. if he did quote that movie, it'd be great

NOW HOW DOES THIS AFFECT THE GAMING FUTURE OF AMERICA

It probably means more Enix games coming to America, which is a good thing. And a better shelf pressence in US game stores thanks to Square having a better market pressence. Enix just doesn't have the big time name in NA that it has in Japan, but now it can use Square's name to sell it's games. And that's a good thing...

Hmm, I wonder if this means there is a slim chance to get the DQ4 english PSX port back on track, which would also be good...

I'm not familiar with that web site, however I don't assume this is true information yet.

As for the merger, I think all it would mean is an increase in the availablity of formerly Enix titles.

I only have a few Enix games, Actraiser was very nice. I don't quite recall right now why I have Illusion of Gaia, not that I'm complaining. I'm sure it was a gift from some nice person.

i was listening to an orchestrated version of one of the "dungeon" songs earlier today and i was thinking of making a thread about the game. i didn't think many people played the game and someone even mentioning it on this same day has just blown my mind

Actraiser freaking rocked. But don't play the sequel. It was pretty bad.

Anyway, Enix titles certainly need better distribution! I hope Square rereleases DW7. It was previously discontinued, I know that much. I spent a lot of Friday looking for a copy, and I finally got one, but I paid too much. Don't care, though. I plan on starting it later, if I can stay awake...

i never completed the sequel because i was so disappointed about it (keep in mind i was about 10 at the time), so i can't really give a straight opinion on it. i'd like to give it another try right now though

but ..
i wonder why the hell they made it all action

The sequel was fine. The japanese version that is. They took out the management of cities part with made the previous game so fun.

It wasnt bad, but could have been better, i liked the mix of action/strategy for the first game. Like you are a god, you see a problem, you personally go fix it , then you manage your believers!

I prefer the sequel, regardless. From a pure action gaming standpoint, it's much more polished and exciting than the first one. I also prefer the magic system, and the enemy design is much better (although that ice dragon from the first game was pretty cool, no denying it) The overall " betterness " of the action sequences made me prefer the sequel, even if it was missing the town segments.

Edit: Oh, and I didn't know the Japanese version still had the town building sequences. I'll definately have to look for it now.

Agreed... I just loved the mixed of action and sim in the game. One of the more unique concepts out there, and I would love to see Enix make another go at the game (Either a new GBA one, or PS2 version...)

The japanese version is different from the US one? I only played the japanese version, but I don't know what they could have erased from it...
I personally liked the 1st game, but not the action sequences, the 2 was really beautifull, and was a great action game.
By the way... I happen to have the OST of Actraiser 1 (awesome), but I never was able to find the OST of Soulblad(z)er, another marvelous SFC game (now THAT was a truelly great game). Anyone has a link to get it? only the songs of the cities before and after you release anyone would make my week shine.

Thanks for the tip, I did not know that the Japanese version of Actraiser 2 still had the Sim City sort of stuff. One of the main reasons I liked the first Actraiser so much was the power trip that came from having cities full of people who worshiped me as their god, especially after I finished beating up any other would-be deity in the area.

I read years ago, the developer said they didn't included the city part because they couldn't fit it on the cart., and they thought the action sequence was the better part to have in the sequal.

As far as I know the Japanese version didn't have the city part. That would make the developers total liars and I'd hope this Square-Enix company would fail.

That hurts. Mostly because I didn't like the action parts of Actraiser 2 (that is, to say, all of it) at all. I actually preferred the action on the first. Oddly enough, I prefer the graphical style of the first. Early SNES games had a great look to them. When I say that, I think of Super Mario World, Actraiser, Gradius III, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, etc... I think they were better looking than most SNES titles ever were.

Well, that, and a lot of them were pretty fun, too. Actraiser 2 just left a bad taste in my mouth after enjoying the first so much.

Where did you read this? I remember this clearly from a published magazine (either Club Nintendo or Nintendo Power) an interview with Enix in which they indicated that it was made an all action game to appeal the american market.

Keep in mind this was on the time where anime related material was not received well entirely (compare the Japanese and US versions of Cybernator by Konami, they removed the anime looking portraits for no reason. Also on the game Rushing Beat 3 (Rival Turf/Peace Makers on the US) they changed the slightly anime looking portraits for more "realistic" ones.)

Anyway I will play the Japanese version of the game using mysterious, zepyesque cryptic ways to see if the SimGod City is still there.

It was probably in EGM, it could be one of several other magazines.

Please let us know if the city is in the Japanese one. ^_^

Nevermind no simulation in JP version. I could swear I saw that note published, but either the interview was made up and I got set up, or the game was geared to the US audience from the start.

Do I ever stand horribly corrected. Excuse me im going to go hide in the closet with my precious chocolate coins.

Above all, they're remembered for the Dragon Warrior/Quest games, though they've never been as popular in the US as they have in Japan...

EOA wasn't that good as square, they took alot hell of a time even so, they always have something done very badly (ie voice actting in RAD).
they didn't brought DWIV for the PSone!
that made me so mad!
Square might be better if they done the game in good time and quality!
