quote: Anyway Peter Moore and Bernie Stolar were both charasmatic characters. I remember seeing Moore on CNN or C-SPAN a while back debating Video Game violence. He seemed really cool headed and intelligent while one of the politicians looked like a fool when he pulled out an ECW figure and talked to Accliam about how they are marketing their ECW game to little kids through the toy when Accliam has nothing to do with the toy.
Charismatic? Maybe. But Bernie Stolar was probably responsible for the Saturn's untimely death in the US. Bad, bad marketing, and instead of trying to rectify things by marketing the good games they had well, he just threw in the towel and let Saturn bury itself. The Saturn's final US games, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force III episode 1, House of the Dead, and Burning Rangers... didn't get a very large production run at all. And they're all very good. Poor marketing, poor distribution, because he didn't want Saturn to live.
And he almost ruined the DC, but fortunately he wasn't around long into that. I still don't agree with the DC's initial US handling, but it could have been a lot worse.
Stolar's not my kind of guy.
On an unrelated note, has anyone had trouble accessing the BBS lately? If there's a thread on this, sorry for the redundant complaint, but both at home and at school, I've been unable to see the message listings until now... weird.

Stolar did say some stupid things. I believe it was a comment he made about SEGA of Japan not doing well and that US would have to pick up the slack that got him out. I don't think Stolar came until late '97 in which the SEGA Saturn was already taking a back seat to the PSX with FF7 and te HUGELY hyped N64. But just stopping almost all support for the Saturn truly sucked. There were so many good games a person could import. I think his exact words were "The Saturn isn't SEGA's Furture." However, I belive it was he who pushed for a 56K to be included on the DC instead of the 33K and keeping the price at $200, which helped the DC's look. But since there weren't that many online games or features orginally it was just a usless peice to some people.

Are you serious?
And to Gekiganger V, you might be interested to know that the new SoR game was originally said to be heading to Xbox. Right now I'm just wondering if it'll happen at all.
here's a quote from gamespot.
"Peter Moore, the former president and COO of Sega of America, has today joined Microsoft as vice president of retail sales and marketing--only a few days after it was announced that he was leaving Sega after four years at the company. In his new role, Moore will oversee retail business in the home and entertainment division, including the Xbox console, Xbox and PC games from Microsoft Game Studios, and home software and hardware products sold at retail, in Europe and Japan. Moore will report directly to Robbie Bach, senior vice president of the home and entertainment division and chief Xbox officer. "

Ugh, ugh, ugh! I REALLY don't like this relationship between Sega and Microsoft. It seems like Microsoft "persuading" (if you know what I mean...cha-ching!) Sega to make all of their games exclusive to their system wouldn't be out of the question. Good thing Sega's teams are split up now...
Useless but true fact: According to GDP guidelines Norway is the best place on Earth to live.
