Why is Sega spreading itself across the three major systems like this? I can't afford all three systems, and all I currently own is a PS2. I'm currently enjoying Shinobi, but I'm missing out on JSRF and Panzer Dragoon Orta (the game that I currently want most that I can't have) and it looks whenever it is that Sonic Team makes a new Sonic, it's going to be on GC. I really do miss being able to enjoy all my Sega goodness on one system. Why can't Sega make ALL of their games for multiple platforms? Or will that cost too much?

Not to mention that Peter Moore guy that used to be with Sega (I think he was head of Sega of America) is now working for Microsoft. Damn....

Too true. I own both a GC and PS2 so I get a majority of my favorite SEGA games like Viruta Fighter and Sonic. However, Panzer Dragoon is a game I wish to play, but other than that one game there is nothing else I want on X-Box. Although the two SEGA game deal sounds interesting, I am still not sure. I already imported my JPN Shenmue 2 and from the sound of it they aren't making any more. So I will wait to see if there is anything else that might spark my interest.

Are you serious?

And to Gekiganger V, you might be interested to know that the new SoR game was originally said to be heading to Xbox. Right now I'm just wondering if it'll happen at all.

I think you are talking about Bernie Stolar or maybe a guy before him. For those that don't know aparently at an E3 a while back SEGA gave Working Designs a rather small booth and they were so upset that stopped releasing games on SEGA systems. I think the main man of Working Designs, Vic Ireland I believe, said that they would only port another SEGA game if it was released on another system.

Anyway Peter Moore and Bernie Stolar were both charasmatic characters. I remember seeing Moore on CNN or C-SPAN a while back debating Video Game violence. He seemed really cool headed and intelligent while one of the politicians looked like a fool when he pulled out an ECW figure and talked to Accliam about how they are marketing their ECW game to little kids through the toy when Accliam has nothing to do with the toy.

SoR?! Wow, if it does happen I might get that.

I'm REALLY skeptical that a big game company wouldn't have researched its history before making a decision like that -- much more skeptical since Streets of Rage it was a big franchise for SEGA. That leads me to think there's some misinterpretation on the part of Tokyopia.

[Edit: Crap -- I commented only on the Tokyopia deal from which I had seen earlier, skipping over the GamersWeb article. Ignore! Thanks for pointing it out again, TiamatRoar!]

What about Gamerweb? (the second link I posted). Think their interview with Yuzo was fabricated or something?

Charismatic? Maybe. But Bernie Stolar was probably responsible for the Saturn's untimely death in the US. Bad, bad marketing, and instead of trying to rectify things by marketing the good games they had well, he just threw in the towel and let Saturn bury itself. The Saturn's final US games, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force III episode 1, House of the Dead, and Burning Rangers... didn't get a very large production run at all. And they're all very good. Poor marketing, poor distribution, because he didn't want Saturn to live.

And he almost ruined the DC, but fortunately he wasn't around long into that. I still don't agree with the DC's initial US handling, but it could have been a lot worse.

Stolar's not my kind of guy.

On an unrelated note, has anyone had trouble accessing the BBS lately? If there's a thread on this, sorry for the redundant complaint, but both at home and at school, I've been unable to see the message listings until now... weird.

Stolar did say some stupid things. I believe it was a comment he made about SEGA of Japan not doing well and that US would have to pick up the slack that got him out. I don't think Stolar came until late '97 in which the SEGA Saturn was already taking a back seat to the PSX with FF7 and te HUGELY hyped N64. But just stopping almost all support for the Saturn truly sucked. There were so many good games a person could import. I think his exact words were "The Saturn isn't SEGA's Furture." However, I belive it was he who pushed for a 56K to be included on the DC instead of the 33K and keeping the price at $200, which helped the DC's look. But since there weren't that many online games or features orginally it was just a usless peice to some people.

here's a quote from gamespot.

"Peter Moore, the former president and COO of Sega of America, has today joined Microsoft as vice president of retail sales and marketing--only a few days after it was announced that he was leaving Sega after four years at the company. In his new role, Moore will oversee retail business in the home and entertainment division, including the Xbox console, Xbox and PC games from Microsoft Game Studios, and home software and hardware products sold at retail, in Europe and Japan. Moore will report directly to Robbie Bach, senior vice president of the home and entertainment division and chief Xbox officer. "

Ugh, ugh, ugh! I REALLY don't like this relationship between Sega and Microsoft. It seems like Microsoft "persuading" (if you know what I mean...cha-ching!) Sega to make all of their games exclusive to their system wouldn't be out of the question. Good thing Sega's teams are split up now...
