quote: I'd like to say that a Devil May Cry comic would kick ass if written and drawn by great artists and writers. I'd love to see Joe Madureira draw Dante like he did for the cover of PSM.
I have to agree. I loved Joe Mad's rendition of Dante, totally badass, even moreso than the original character looks on his own merit!
Anyone remember the old SF comics they released here? They were a manga series, published by... er... Takuma comics? Or was it Tokuma? I don't really remember, but I really loved the art style, and the cheesy US SF merchandise they pedalled in the back pages of it.
I wish I could find the few issues of it I had. I always wanted to see it through to the end, but it got really hard to find where I live in the middle of its run. I wonder if it was collected into some kind of trade paperback...
I really liked the Cammy series that Viz ran some time ago. That was cool as hell. I remember the Street Fighter series, that was Viz also. Perhaps if they collected it, they would have it available on their site.
If Dreamwave is indeed making some Capcom books, they will look good, but don't hold your breath necessarily on the quality of the story. Dreamwave is quickly positioning themselves the premiere licensed comic book company.

I agree, because I found the Rival Schools manga online in French. They could just color that and translate it instead, saving some energy for newer creative, unique projects since we know what stories an artist thinks from experiences, or inspirations and what we can learn by their creative writing and thinking.
I thought that the Viz English translation was o.k. of Street Fighter by Masanomi Kanzaki (Xenon), even though I have the original comics in Japanese, and I can't read a single word of Japanese.
If I were working at Dreamwave or a higher company, I'd be interested in making and exploring my own unique creations, characters that no one has thought before (or even Capcom hasn't thought before).
I like Capcom's funny and crazy rhythmic, professional, sharp, elegant dramatic poses (Masterpieces?) and ideas, and provides good reference, but wouldn't want to make a story out of it. The only story I would work on for a manga or live-action movie is Strider.
I'd be inspired by Capcom drawings, but in short, the stories of the original Japanese creators at Capcom could be better, but I'd leave it in their creative minds ^_^
It would be SO wonderful if CMRK (Bengus) and Akiman made comics for Dreamwave, but that is just a dream. Seeing them at San Diego con and getting sketches ??? That would be a mega-dream! Akiman is a male artist? Last month there was a woman posing, in front of a store - I wonder who is that ??
American manga artists are good too, (I love Adam Warren's work (Magical Girl Roxy, Gen 13 Bootleg), Joe Maduiera, and Rick Mays(of Kabuki: Scarab), and Chyna Klugston Major (Blue Monday from Oni Press), but having other newer titles could perhaps inspire more people with their own stories and their own styles (Especially Locke on www.damaged.com )
I had spoken to Adam a couple of times, a year ago at FanimeCon, and had mentioned that creating my own style is important. I have also met Locke too, and when I had shown my own stuff, he really liked them.
People who independently make their own works inspire me as a manga artist!
My friend Ben Seto has a comic called "Waterfall" which he has rich backgrounds and cool ideas for characters which is on www.blacksheepcomics.com that he writes and illustrates inventively.
Check the sites out if you got the time! :O) sssushi ^_^

Hmm, that's true too, I guess whatever works to generate more sales to help their company.
I know Maduiera started out with X-Men first, then Battle Chasers, and you do have a good point. Yeah, it does work both ways.
I guess for me, I can't draw anyone else's characters unless it's some character I really like. For me, I'm gonna start off a couple of 8 pagers with Mangaphile, start fresh with small potatoes, then add on with more titles until fans start to notice my humorous creativity ^_^
If reality helps me, I'll do more comics that are 1 or 3 shot issues. It takes a lot of creative effort and energy to make one. But it does pay off in the end with people 50 % who do like my style, and 50% who think differently about it.
There's always 2 sides to every story :O)

quote: I agree with you, Sushi Bunny, on the whole "make your own character and story" philosophy. But sometimes people are just not that creative or original to make good original works. Another thing is that people often like to have a chance at writing or drawing a story with a famous or popular character (or even not famous characters).
I would love to have the chance to make a Street Fighter comic. I know the Japanese ones are pretty good. But still. We'll see how well Dreamwave does. Unfortunately for them, no one is really that interested in their own original comics!

Max,
Hmm, I see your point too, I too, like some Dreamwave titles, and some titles that are published by them are well, look different..
I guess it's from my experience testing games at Atari, where they pull in a title like Terminator: Dawn of Fate, and it just didn't coordinate well, or alter, it 30% using elements of the original storyline, but doesn't really connect completely in harmony with the original movies.. :..O/
Hopefully, that the majority of the Capcom purists think positively about the new stories or story arcs, and pick up the books. I really like their Transformers line, that was excellent!
I admit that Transformers: The War Within was an excellent story arc to the original Transformers universe, or as Doc in Back to the Future would say, "The fabric of the space-time continnum.."
I really really truly hope the Capcom comics will appeal to the mass majority..
sssushi ^_^
