quote: I read that according to an American magazine they would be announcing it soon...
If you ask me, which no one has bu I'll pretend you did, if Sony plans to make a portable system it'll be when the PS3 comes out.
My reasoning: -When the PS2 came out a smaller PS1 was released as well and sold rather well, keeping the PSX in the market for quite awhile.
-It's rumored Sony will release a $100 smaller version of PS2 (similar to the PS1) 'soon'
-In all likely hood the Smaller PS2 won't be released until the PS3 comes out, keeping the PS2 around longer, but this will probably bump the PS1 out of market.
-Sony wants all the PS-systems to be backwards compatable, but because of technological reasons the PS3 will probably only play PS2 and PS3 games.
-If the PS3 won't play PS1 games it gives Sony a 'gap' in their market where they can release a portable PS1 (and if you think about it, the timing lines up well enough it's comparable to the SNES to GBA time gap) also at this time the technology will probably be cheap enough it can be sold for a price comparable to whatever the GBA SP (or maybe even the GBA) is at, and the fact most people will have a pre-existing library of games will give it a nice advantage in someways.
so that's my theory... Portable Sony system in 2005-2006, I'm no market annalyzer but I think I might be right.
