"he likes the GameCube because it is the only system that was designed specifically and exclusively for games"

So the other systems aren't, and Gamecube is for games only?

sony always made it clear that they wanted the ps2 to be an "all purpose" entertainment device, with the ability to play music, dvds, video games, and now go online. same deal with the xbox. the gamecube has no extra gimmicks; no dvd player, no audio cd playback, little focus on online capability... it is a pure gaming console.

Nintendo and Capcom should just get married, buy a place of their own and settle down.

hehe

I think they used to be "an item" durring the NES days and then they broke up because Capcom "cheated", until later when they got back together.

LOL. I do often forget that GCN is the only one designed solely for games..

Shoot, that's right, other consoles have extra features! I had pretty much forgotten about them... I was pretty much looking at the consoles based on the games available for them, as opposed to the extra features they have. Does that seem to be the way most gamers approach the consoles now?

I think so, but I wouldn't really know.
Perhaps we'll see a revival of the " classic " Megaman series now. You know, with Wily and all.

I understand where Capcom is coming from in terms of Nintendo's corporate mindset, but realistically I think the lack of DVD feature isn't as noble as "We want our system dedicated to videogames!" although that probably is part of it. The Gamecube was designed to be cheaper than the other systems and incorporate the mini disc format in order to satiate Nintendo paranoia over people pirating their games.

Personally if a console is going to throw in DVD functionality I’m not going to refuse. It certainly would be a selling point if I was equally interested in two systems.

I'd be up for that. It'd be good to see a revival of the original characters (perhaps outlined polygonal characters in a 2D environment, with an option to observe character models?), even if there's only one more game with a purpose to tie the original Megaman and the Megaman X series. (I actually haven't played through X6, though -- so I don't know if the connection is established in X6. And I refuse to read spoilers until I play through the game...)

I wonder how well the GBA version of Rockman & Forte will sell. If it does sell well, maybe we'll indeed see a Megaman 9. (Don't know if I'm gonna get it at full price, though -- I already have the Super Famicom cart.)

Well, yeah -- I wouldn't refuse DVD functionality either. But, in deciding what system I'd get next, I had almost completely forgotten DVD functionality as a factor in buying a console.

Yah, no kidding. But anyway, why the heck interview a Capcom USA rep. All this company does is put together ads for the games.

What about localization? There's gotta be some explanation for that horrid English dub of Megaman X4... (Thank goodness I also have its Japanese version.)

Plus, Maximo?

I don't think it'll matter whether a console has DVD functionality or not in the coming years; sooner or later a good deal of people will have dedicated DVD players for that (if it doesn't eclipse the VCR by some technological revolution, because as it stands there will always be VCRs).

I found Kagami's sword in a junk yard.
I also provide nothing useful to the gaming community.

But, regardless of the effectiveness of DVD movie playback on console sales now and in the future, it is a feature that pushed early sales at least.
