Figured this worked well enough for movies, so why not do it for Songs as well? Same deal as before, list down your ten favorite songs (Any genre) in order, or not in order. Shar eit with others and we may just expand music tastes, which is a good thing!
Anyway, here is my top ten list...
1- The Beatles - A day in the Life -
My favorite Lennon song from the Beatles, this is the end song to what I think is the most important album of the 20th Century. The first concept album, Sgt. Peppers was a playfull mix of sounds and concepts combined in a Rock tour de force. And this track was the encore, a bitter sweet and haunting track covering the day in the life of a British offical. The cheeky use of classical music played backwards, and Lennon's masterfull use of lyrics are at the best here creating what many think is the greatest Rock song of all time. And I certainly agree...
2 - Elanor Rigby - The Beatles - My favorite Paul McCartney Beatles effort (Yes, I know the credits are listed as Lennon/McCartney, but by this time the distinction was only used for Tax purposes), this was one of the first successfull blendings of classical and rock music to creat a truly unique song.
3 - Ride of the Valkyries - Wagner - Perhaps the most well known of the Wagner works, thanks to the classic Bugs Bunny Cartoon and the memorable scene in Apoclaypse Now. I like this work cause it easily sets a mood, and carries me away.
4 - Satisfaction - Rolling Stones - I find myself singing this in my head during bad work days, so it gets a place on the list...^^
5 - Voices - Macross Plus - A powerfull ballad, wonderfully preformed and marking a great end to Macross Plus. One of my favorite Kanno songs...
6 - Thus Spake Zarathustra - Richard Strauss - The opening 1:11 of the tone poem will forever be linked to Human evolution thanks to Kubrick's classic Sci-Fi film. I just love the build up, and love the film, so it's on my list...:)
7 - Runnin Down a Dream - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Wonderfull lyrics, and nices upbeat rock tune makes this my favorite Tom Petty song out of his fine career...
8 - Imagine - John Lennon - My favorite John Lennon song, this is a simple rock ballad but the power of the lyrics and John's singing make it an instant classic.
9 - Kiseki no Umi - Yohko Kanno - My favorite Kanno/Maaya song, which is my favorite anime opening duo. I just love the beats in this song, and how it prepares you for a fantasy world. Too bad I found the anime to be merely okay...
10 - Live and Let Die - Paul McCartney - My Favorite solos song from Paul, and favorite Bond song ever. I like the dueling tempo's of the song, and the melodic lyrics really help it along.

Damn, we're already going to get some repeats of the songs that have already been mentioned :D
I'm not going to put these in any particular order.
A Day in the Life - It's already been spoken for, so there's not much to say. Lennon is one of the greatest songwriters, and so write some of the greatest songs. Enough said.
Tangled Up in Blue - This was my first concious Dylan song. But that doesn't mean I'm biased towards it. The song is almost epic, despite the fact that it's about one regular old guy with a regular, hard life. The lyrics are beautiful and well rendered, in all of it's variations (there are a lot). The sound adds to it, giving it an optimistic melancholy, which really resonates with me.
Imagine - Again, even though it's pretty simple musically, it's just the right mix of everything, with powerful lyrics. This song could save the world, if everyone would just listen.
Do You Realize?? - The Flaming Lips are masters of sound and lyrics, and I believe are one of the most important working bands. This song always puts things into perspective for me. I feel it's a more personal "Imagine". It could save the world.
Seiteki Shoujo - A Number Girl song. I'm sure Mukai Shutoku (singer/songwriter/guitarist) is a great lyricist, but until I'm fluent in Japanese, I won't know. This song makes you wanna twitch ferociously, and sit down and relax. It's strange, and it's mastery of sound. Mukai's yelling and Hisako Tabuchi's (lead guitarist) guitar blend so well, it's scary. Produced by the same guy who produces for the Flaming Lips. I don't think it's a coincidence. Great band + great producer can make some mindblowing stuff.
Tsumi to Batsu - Shiina Ringo is just... just. You know. She's that kind of nuts that melts in your ears. I can't explain why I love this song so much in terms that I haven't already exhausted here.
Truth Doesn't Make a Noise - The White Stripes. Jack White can write up a perfect storm. Give him a few more years and he'll join up in the ranks with Mr. Lennon and Mr. Dylan. The fusion of the lyrics and the sound are perfect.
Optimistic - Radiohead. What can I say? I dunno. Radiohead is another one of the most important working bands today, in my opinion. The lyrics follow a nice "This little piggy went to market" type of format. Great layering of sound. What up with me and strange voices?
Instant Karma! - John Lennon. Instant Karma's gonna get you. I can't help but relate this to my life every day. Just read the lyrics and listen to the song and make your own conclusions.
Desolation Row - Bob Dylan. A literary opus for Dylan. It's an 11 minute song and I never get bored of it. Picking out the figures and the allusions and all of the humour in it makes it even better than it looks on the surface. It's hypnotic and hilarious.
(as a note, Eleanor Rigby wasn't completely written by Paul. He wrote a few lines and just rudely had John "finish up the lyrics".
"Ah, the first verse was his and the rest were basically mine" -John Lennon, from the book "All We are Saying")

10 - Live and Let Die - Paul McCartney - My Favorite solos song from Paul, and favorite Bond song ever. I like the dueling tempo's of the song, and the melodic lyrics really help it along.
Here are mine :
10- Sadeness Part 1 - Enigma - an exotic song, very nice to hear
9- Complicated - Avril Lavigne - since the first time I heard this song,I already loved it !! Great rock track !
8- High On Love - Emma Bunton - a soft song, where she expresses to her mother how much she loves her, sweet but nice
7- Can You Keep A Secret ? - Hikaru Utada - honestly,I don't understand what she says in it,but the rhytym of the song and Hikaru's sweet voice compensate it very well
6- Every Breath You Take - P. Diddy (or Puff Daddy) - I know that this song isn't really from P.Diddy, but I like rap music, and the way he mixed the music's beats with his rap is just brilliant
5- Gostar De Mim (Never Goin' That Way Again) - Wanessa Camargo - I suppose you don't know this one . Wanessa Camargo is a Brazilian teen singer, but this song expresses a great maturity . In this song, she incorporates a former drug user, who describes the dark path she trailed, but that she managed to get rid of it and now she doesn't want to go that way again, because she learned to like herself . Very deep, with her great voice
4- Fly Away - Lenny Kravitz - the rhytym of this track is very catchy;plus,I first heard it when I was starting to get interest on music,so it's really nostalgic to me
3- Aquarela - Toquinho - another Brazilian singer, but this one is a MPB artist (MPB is a calm style that is more melodic, where a singer gets his/her guitar, sings, plays, and no more things are needed) . Here,he compares the world with a kid's drawing;very simple, but shows how important the simple things in life can be . Very deep, and very touching .
2- Spice Girls - Goodbye - you weren't thinking that I would forget these girls, were you ? ^^ This song was made soon after Geri Halliwell's departure, and even if this song wasn't made to her,it's a kind of goodbye message that would make any tough guy cry . The Spice Girls made lots of great songs during their career (which I'm afraid it's close to its end),but this one is,in my opinion, the best one of all their career .
1- Victoria Beckham - I.O.U. - first I was thinkig about putting a Spice Girls' song here, but Mrs. Posh Spice has (at least for now) the most beautiful song I've ever,EVER heard . "I.O.U." (or : "I Owe You") was made to her husband,David Beckham, and she tells him that all the love that she has,she owes him . Victoria, who I consider the best solo Spice (she has great tracks mixing black music, electronic effects, soft love ballads, etc.) shows her love mainly in the chorus : "And I never could repay the look that's in your eyes / I could save up all the kisses 'til the end of times / So to pledge myself to you would be no sacrifice / All my love in my life 'til it's true,I owe you" . I read on Internet that Mr. Beckham cried when she sang it to him in Elton John's TV show . So far,it's my favorite track EVER !!!!!
Sure,I change my opinions very fast,so this is not a definite favorite songs list
I can be any person in the world...Maybe I'm this person right in front of you...or not!
