I don't think I've read an account of the Street Fighter story as succenct as this:
http://www.trenchman.com/features/streetfighter.html
Although there's no sources given other than "Capcom". It would be better if they had foot notes or something like that that gave specific books and so forth.
"The chronology of the games is as follows: Street Fighter 1 happened first, followed by Street Fighter Alpha 3, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Street Fighter 2 (Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo supercedes every other version of Street Fighter 2, storyline-wise) and Street Fighter 3. The first Street Fighter Alpha doesn't really count; it is, according to Capcom, superceded by Street Fighter Alpha 2. Jeez, what a continuity mess. "
arg! no!
"Most of the stories don't fit very well with what Capcom has created, but they do seem to be fond of the various Street Fighter manga series that they've licensed--to the point where they've actually taken characters from the manga. Spoiled rich girl Karin, Sakura's rival, is an example of this. "
what?? What's this manga?
"The Russian wrestler Zangief, according to Capcom, is gay. "

I think it might be the same manga that they got Evil Ryu from. I haven't seen the manga, but I know they got him from a SF manga somewhere.
I don't believe the "gay Zangief" thing... didn't he like Rainbow Mika??? Just because he doesn't like "pretty young girls" doesn't mean he doesn't like girls at all.... Ah, well. It's up to you whether you believe stuff like that or not. I don't really care about Zangief's preference, but I don't think he's gay. It's been a while since I've seen Mika's ending from SFA3, but I thought her and Zangief kind of liked each other.

Oooo, there's another person that knows about the Zangief is gay thing? ...hey, wait a minute. This information and even the opinion stuff looks awfully familiar. Wow, I'm surprised he even copied the opinions. The facts are open source but copying the opinions is kinda silly. Ah well, whatever.
Anyways, Zangief being gay is directly stated in the Official Street Fighter 2 Fanbook, which like any remotely credible source (except maybe http://db.gamefaqs.com/coinop/misc/file/street_fighter_plot.txt , but even that has to be constantly corrected), is in Japanese. It's not in All About Capcom, for some reason (AAC doesn't have all the details of the SF universe, anyways, though it does have nearly all of it). There are other CIRCUMSTANTIAL implication evidence pieces in his win quotes and such that he's gay, but no actually hard core in-game proof that I know of that I could draw out to prove beyond a doubt that he's gay. The circumstantial evidence is no where near Eagle's level, either.
EDIT
Oh yea, Mika and Zangief definately are not a couple. You can tell that from their dialogues with each other alone. If she were in love with him, she wouldn't say something like "Someday I'll tell my children about my meeting with you!", after all.

Karin first appeared in the 2-volume manga, Sakura Ganbaru! by Nakahira Masahiko. This manga was published prior to the release of SFZERO3, and included appearances by Cammy and Blanka -- 2 characters who returned to the SF series in SFZ3, having been absent from the series since SSFIIX. Perhaps CAPCOM liked Nakahira's ideas so much that they incorporated them into their games, or perhaps CAPCOM knew well in advance which characters they planned to bring back and simply asked/instructed Nakahira to include these characters in his manga. Satsui no Hadou ni mezameta Ryu [Ryu, awakened to the Hadou of Murderous Intent (usually called "Evil Ryu" in the U.S.)] appeared in Nakahira's 2-volume manga, Street Fighter ZERO (published prior to Sakura Ganbaru!).
