quote: By "controversial" I mean the one that has caused contradicting reactions among anime fans. Not for example, the one that the media labeled as violent, explicit, whatever.I think you get what I mean.Well, usually famous=controversial/overrated by association most of the time, but anyway...
please to all who voted vote again.I will know remember that edit does not work with polls.. Poll
By your def., Eva hands down. The wheels fall off at the end and the multiple endings (TV/D+R/EoE) only complicate matters. The night my friends and I MSTed End of Eva while hammered was quite possibly the most entertaining night of my life.
Oh, and to CMike, that may be true (well, it's difficult for it not to be given its ridiculous longevity and maniacal fanbase) but I believe we're discussing something else. Needless to say I agree with you but have no desire to start that argument.

There's always controversy, hard to avoid stuff like Eva and all the popular ilk.
Perhaps more was created back in the days of the early forays into H anime, and I don't simply mean Cream Lemon, Lolicon Angel, Lemon Angel, and other products of the 80s. In the early 70s, there was the first animated film to recieve an X rating here, Osamu Tezuka's Cleopatra: Queen of Sex. Yep, it came out in America. Sparked a HUGE amount of controversy...not for being hard-core porn, but for NOT being hard-core porn. Very much backed in story...not a big hit with people interested in watching the hard-core Asian erotica that this seemed to have been labeled as.
Osamu Tezuka also worked on his own version of Arabian Nights in the 60s, which featured, among other things, crocodile sex and lesbian fun.
