Ok.. so this might be a little risque in the particular environment.. but have any of you guys seen the anime Fruits Basket? And does anyone know if there's a manga to it? (I'm sure there must be... but it doesn't mean I've been able to find much information about it.)

I've only seen the first two ep.s.... so I'm no expert. I'm just curious.... I like what I've seen. Simple and cute. Perfect for a rainy day. ^_^

I haven't seen all of it -- but from what I've seen, it's quite enjoyable. Humorous, cute, emotional, and also a bit deep. I recommend it. ^_^

I've seen all of it, and I can say it's the best series I've seen in 2001 and is probably one of my favorite Shoujo series. Well directed by the director of Kodoma, it's got a nice mix of drama and comedy.

And Tohru is a nice Shoujo heroine. Nice and upbeat, and has apostive outlook on life.

I highly recommend this show to any shoujo anime fans, or people that just like good anime. I heard this swept the anime awards for 2001 for a TV series, and it desrved them.

Have seen the first 6 episodes, I think its one of the best animes i've seen in a while. I can not wait to see the rest of the series.

I've seen it. I didn't quite get what was going on at the end, but then again, the TV series is only a fraction of the comic. They didn't even introduce my zodiac animal (the rooster) or the horse.

I think it's pretty good. Sometimes there are bit to many introspective soliloquies but it was fun to watch (although Tohru borders on battered wife syndrome at times...)

The pig was the best. And the story about the riceball being left out of the fruits basket was cute. For some reason, I like this anime A LOT--it's cute, but at the same time it's just deep enough to make you feel for Honda-san. We're watching it at the weekly anime club I go to, and right now we're about halfway through it and I'm totally in love with it!

Yeah, the ending kinda leaves you wanting more though since I don't think they did enough to explain to full effect of the cat curse (don't want to spoil anymore) and what Akito was all about.

I was thinking of picking up the comics from my usual store, Link Here but I need to get the reissued You're Under Arrest series before it goes out of print again...

I saw the whole series and I liked it.
You don't have to be in shoujo anime to appreciate it, it can appeal to anybody, I believe.

The serie's end makes you want to get the mangas to see what happens next ( although I didn't do it)

Ha ha! One of my friends is like the MPAA's worst nightmare realized. He has three harddrives (something like 120 gigs) of crap.

...as long as the college doesn't have a firewall blocking off programs like kazaa, morpheus, napster, and the like.

Anyone know a page or something that I can download episodes from? I don't care if they're dubbed, subbed... just as long as there's some semi-decent english to read/hear. ^_^;

A page? Um, you know how big episodes are, right? (200 megs for the uninformed)

You should ask Rid or someone on ICQ/IRC/AIM/etc. to hook you up with some stuff.

You should still try direct connect since it doesn't operate in the same way as those file sharing programs and might work around college protection schemes, although that might be some sort of legal issue with the college that I don't know about.

If your college blocks stuff like kazaa, then I would guess they block file transfers through IM and ICQ too since I know mine does.

If you want a site you can download stuff from, this one used to be good, back when file space websites were in vogue. I haven't really used it much lately but it seems like it still updates.

Well, it is possible to come across pages that have FTP links. That's how I was able to download at least to episode 4 of Chobits.

And, another post:

Heh, thanks! [Je je -- también te gusta Cool Cool Toon, Toxico?] Yeah, I've actually mostly been using images from Cool Cool Toon for the few avatars and tags I've been using, the first which were taken directly from the CCT GD-ROM and cropped (and also somewhat modified).

Whee, now to get back on topic ;) --

TK, there might always be the option of IRC -- I don't know if firewalls block file transfers through it. But, since finding the files on fservs is kind of a daunting task (and, I don't know if Fruits Basket is even up anymore) -- what could be done is to have you and another person connect to the same IRC server (first seeing when both are online, say through AIM or ICQ), then do a DCC session (if your university allows it) to directly send the files to you. I know the university anime club library has at least a few episodes of fansubbed Fruits Basket in DivX format (though, I believe we're missing some episodes in the middle), so I could at least try seeing which episodes I could send you. (The anime club secretary, which handles the anime club collection, lives two doors down from me, so it wouldn't be much of a problem.)

Or, for anyone that has all of the episodes -- would you also be willing to transfer files via this method? [Assuming the firewalls don't automatically block the method?]

Direct connect won't work, either. Or at least nothing this technogeek does can get it to work. And ICQ, AIM... all those.. I can't connect with them either. Their firewall is really being stubborn.

Note that nbow that the series has been released commercialy, it'll be harder to find the eps. Most servers tend to stick to recent and newer animes...
