Has anyone seen Treasure Planet yet?

It was quite good, everything Atlantis and Titan A.E. wished they could have been and so much more.

I'm sure the inevitable "it's just Disney trying to be anime" comment will come up, but someone smart enough to look closer will see that's not the case, it's a new step for Disney in their journy to leave their "old style" in favore of new techiniques (much like they did in Lilo and Stitch) and an attempt to go for "less kiddy" story's while staying family friendly (like they attempted but failed to pull off in Atlantis)

it wasn't as good as Lilo and Stitch, but it was still damn entertaining and well worth the money... I hope they make toys because I want a John Silver for my collection.

I saw the movie, it was pretty good, but its far from touching Titan AE. In my opinion.

Other than that i didnt find anything to compare it to anime. The story and dialog werent that great, it seemed more like the movie was a guinea pig for Disney to try new techniques. I'll get the dvd when it comes out.

You actually liked Titan AE?

Not judging you or anything, just I always thought Titan AE was universally hated (it did bomb so horribly FOX closed their Movie animation studios forever robbing Bartok of future work.)

Universally hated? I think the reason why it didnt do too well is because it wasnt marketed properly and people didnt go see it because they were too busy with mainstream crap. Most of the people i spoke to about the movie liked it a lot, tho some didnt like the story too much.

By the way Fox animation studios is not dead. They did Ice Age, but im sure they will never do something non 3d again.

Well most people I talked to hated it, the story wasn't good, the voicing wasn't great... it all seemed to be made to sell soundtracks, videogames, and pretend to be some ground breaking revolution in animation despite Disney having merged 2D with 3D (in a much more tasteful fashion)since 1984.

and BlueSky made Ice Age, not FOX Animation (similar to how Toy Story is made by Pixar not Disney themeselves) so while BlueSky will continue to make 3D movies for FOX, FOX's tradtional animation movie studio is dead. (which makes me wonder how a Simpsons movie can be in planning during the run of the series... they don't honestly expect the crew to make an entire season AND a feature length film at the TV animation studio do they? That's crazy!)

Isnt that what most disney movies do? The treasure planet video game and other miscellaneous merchandise came out before the movie.

every time the commercial comes on for it, any friends i'm with bash it simply because it's Disney. if it were just a couple of months ago, i probably would've joined in on the bashing. but i've taken your advice, Baghead, and started to give Disney a chance. i haven't seen the movie yet, but really, the backgrounds look so freakin' amazing. and a lot of different elements make me really wanna see the movie. one i remember was how they made one of the villains a cyborg or something similar, but that cyborg played the character of a pirate from Treasure Island. a nice reminiscent touch. another was that scene when it shows that child "transformed" into an adult. something about it was just beautiful

unfortunately, i doubt i'll see the movie any time soon ... maybe i'll bug my sister to buy it on dvd whenever it comes out heheh

oh yea, somewhat off topic, i caught Kim Possible on some network a few weeks ago. i really, really enjoyed it, which surprised me because after watching that horrid Fox Box preview, i was convinced that all cartoons had gone to hell. i stayed up all morning to watch a lot of those Disney things (i forgot the names of half of them) and most really weren't all that bad. i guess i should just curse the WB and Fox for going into that "let's buy anything, no matter how shitty, that looks like anime!!" frenzy

Thus ending the possibilty of the Dragon's Lair and Space Ace animated movies by Don Bluth.

Well, ok, not really. I remember reading somewhere that he still wants to do the Dragon's Lair movie. I hope it's done soon...but I am fooling myself.

Anyway, I didn't have any interest in Trasure Plantet but now that I read both of your comments I'm interested.

It occurs to me that an awful lot of trouble in Gotham City could have been averted a long time ago if Batman had just ripped the Joker's nipples off.

A man with the nipples ripped off him does not make the same mistakes twice.

I mean crime in Gotham City doesn't exactly seem to be affected by a man dressed as a bat flapping around the place. But no-one disobeys a man wearing a necklace of human nipples.

"I'm Batman" isn't cutting it in the striking-fear-into-their-hearts stakes. But "I'm Batman -- and I'm here for your nipples" is an entirely different proposition.

I don't know why people keep bashing Disney. Well, after seeing Lilo and Stitch this summer,my faith is Disney has been restored. Lilo and Stitch was the coolest movie from them since Tarzan.

I'm gonna get the Lilo and Stitch DVD when it comes out this Tuesday.

As for Treasure Planet,it looks very interesting.

hehe I don't know of too many people from Hawaii (myself included) who really appreciated the movie much, if at all...it was funny and cute I guess, but the premise wasn't something to be desired by the islanders...no sense going into the tourism politics (hoy hoy) and what not

I'm going to see Treasure Planet though, for to me it looks interesting...although I really would like them to come up with a story that's not a remake of an older story (and not set in Hawaii!)...

just my 2¥ ^_^

I was terribly unimpressed with Titan A.E. It had some neat things about it, but failed to go anywhere with them. To the point where I don't even remember what they were, and I don't care to refresh my memory by watching it again.

As for it being hated... well... I guess having a Creed song in it's commercials certainly didn't help it's case.

I didn't HATE Titan A.E., but I can say it didn't impress me. I'm still confused as to the nature of those crystal aliens; if they were a " group " organism, why would they need a queen? How could people walk through their ship without them realizing it ( if it was an extension of them?) and why would they need a language? ( pays too much attention to this sort of thing.. )

The list of Disney films I've out-right hated is much shorter than the ones I've appreciated, with Emperor's New Groove being probably my most recent favorite (I haven't seen Lilo & Stitch though) and Atlantis being the worst by far. Treasure Planet seems pretty remarkable from the previews I saw.

I miss the musical numbers though. No, seriously. I honestly don't think I would have enjoyed Aladdin nearly as much without them.

Believe it or not I actually want to see Treasure Planet. And I don't really care about the plot at all. I can at least realize that this is an amazing step for Disney in the graphics department and I wanna be there to evaluate them. ^_^ Sort of a mean goal, I know. Of course.. if the plot's so stupid it gives me a migrain.. I'll prolly mention that too.

I heard the Dragon Lair feature is already in the making.

I'll watch Treasure Planet for the animation, especially Glen Kean's Long John Silver.

Also, the success of Ice Age helped re-open FOX's animation unit.

And btw DO NOT BUY LILO & STITCH DVD YET. This is a stupid version only made for the christmas season. The Special Edition (with all the cool extras/features) will come out lil later.

Although I will try to watch it when I have time, I still think it's going to be a little hard for me to enjoy it as much as I did Spirited Away. Spirited Away, IMO, was so fun and entertaining while being different. I know some will say I shouldn't compare, but I can't help it since it was actually the last movie I've been to (Very busy with college so I unfortunately don't have much time for movies (^_^;) )

Yeah, Treasure Planet was cool. Titan AE was OK. It did try on a couple of things. BTW, I think the main plot importance (the crystal aliens) got sort of screwed over. I say this because (from what I heard) the "reason" why they hate humans was outlined in an official comic given out at the premiere but not incorporated in the movie itself. Sounds like most fighting game storylines...

I actually read a negative review of Treasure Planet in the newspaper, and since I've pretty much stayed away from Disney's latest animation offerings, I figured why not one more?

Oh, and Coinop-Duck, your sig image is AWESOME? Is there a wallpaper pic of that?

I haven't seen the movie yet but based on the adds I don't think its any more trying to be Japanese animation style than the last several Disney movies.

Thanks for the alert since I was thinking about picking up Lilo & Stitch in spite of how skimpy the upcoming DVD is. Any idea when the special edition [with the appropriate designation of "Disney Gold Edition" or "Disney Platinum Edition" or "Disney Plutonium Edition with Collectible Cadmium Case"] going to come out?
