I'd have to say Vice City. Not to dis the game, though. It's quite enjoyable. It's just that the software stores put it up for pre-order the day it was announced. Waaaaay too many marketers and salesmen since were fixated on grabbing a piece of its guaranteed success.

I agree with the PS2 being overhyped, hardware wise anyway. It can put out alot of polygons but my old Voodoo 3 card has more video memory then the PS2. Just look at Metal Gear Solid 2's ugly, blurry, stretchy textures. Of course graphics don't make a game. BTW, Metal Gear Solid 2 was overhyped also.

That PS2 Tomb Raider game... what's it called "Angel of Darkness" or some bullshit...

yeah, PSM has already devoted too many pages to something that everyone knows is just going to end up being exactly like the last 50 Tomb Raider games only on the PS2 instead of the PSX.

I'm glad Metroid's back... Samus needs to remind people she exist to steal Lara's (falsely earned) "First Female Videogame Action Star" title.

I would have to go with MGS2, although a good game gameplay wise, it had a really boring story. It's not that I didn't get it, it is just I thought it was full of BS.

And second I would have to go with Shenmue. Don't get me wrong I REALLY loved Shenmue, but since Yu Suzuki was mostly showing footage from the second one I had high hopes. And him classifying the game under FREE doesn't help the over hype case either.

Well I guess it is my hate of Govt. conspiracy storylines. I hardly watch a movie about govt conspiracies unless there is an actor I like in it. Enemy of the State(Will Smith) is one of those few exceptions as well as Mercury Rising(Bruce Willis).

Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball.

Has there been any other game in the history of videogaming that's had about 50,000,000,000 news releases before it's even close to complete? Thought not.

Runner-up: BMX XXX. (Exasperated memo to programmers: "XXX" includes the area below the waist.) A game that was seemingly designed from the ground up to generate tons of undeserved controversy, then instantly flame out and never be heard from again.

Special mention: Every PS2 game that invariably gets mentioned on ALL the message boards: GTA3, GT3, MGS2, Devil May Cry, etc. etc. Sheesh, you'd think there wouldn't be a single game for this system that I'd actually enjoy.
