According to Mainichi interactive, they're merging to share the costs of online gaming.

Further, it seems that Squares stock has risen astronomically in the 10 days PRIOR to the merger, 52% in fact. Investigations have begun. Full story on Insert Credit

Intresting...Though I hope it isn't insider trading. I can see them uniting to share online costs, and hope this bodes well for an FFXI launch...

Well japanese business practices are pretty sketchy to begin with in certain ways...so once they start getting 'investigated', you know there's a problem :/

No, only Trigger. There was a big buzzz about those 3 person (I forgot the 3rd one) on the same project.... You could even meet them at the end of Trigger. And didn't some Enix guys worked on FF5 (the class change system is soooo deja vu) ?

The third person who colaborated on Chrono Trigger was Akira Toriyama (sic) of Dragon Ball Z fame. Look at the official game art, and be shocked at the simililarities between Magus/Vegeta, Chrono/Goku, and Marle/Bulma. Other similarities, anyone?

Actually is more like Piccolo:Magus, Bulma:Lucca.
Didnt mind the similarities, they characters are way different storywise.

I have to disagree here. Magus doesn't resemble clearly any DB character, he just shares some of Tori's typical characteristics for "cool" villians.

But, now that we talk about similarities...

Ayla resembles Lunch/Lange (in her blonde and brutal form)

Frog resembles captain Gynew in his frog form.

Robo resembles a robot.

And I'll stop now, but I can invent more similarities if you want (although in case of Lucca is very clear).

Marle = Early DB Bulma (only in looks)
Lucca = Bulma (scientific mind) + Arale (looks) (seems everyone forgot Dr Slump)

well
as I think of what will be next
the best thing I can say is
Square and it FF games will ramain for the PS2
while Enix with it DQ will go for the GC
this way both companys gona work so fine with Nintendo
and it will be the best thing to do

I hope

and hope is good

The article made is sound like the companies somehow gained something by the price going up before the announcement. What is inferred? Insider trading before the announcement I can see, but is there something else? Sense the merger isn't until next year anyway...

Well I think that insider trading raises the value of the stock as well as the volume, thus making the stock unnaturally high before the merger goes public. Thus after the merger announcement, when everyone wants to buy the stock, it's a lot more expensive. Thus Square has a quick(er) way out of some of their debt.

I believe that's how it works...
