I was playing CvS2 this morning and thinking about CFAS. And I noticed that A LOT of people are loathing this game, and I got to thinking about the positives:

-There isn't an overload of Ryu-wannabes(Ken,Akuma,Sean,Dan,Sakura,the list goes on and on)

-The new characters are refreshing to see. And they brought in Haggar(someone much needed in a fighter besides Final Fight)
They got Batsu,Akira and Alex in the mix, too. I found that really cool!

-It seems like there will actually be a concrete storyline w/ endings, since the cast isn't too big.

-Seeing as how it's a fairly numbered cast, this will hopefully eliminate "top-tiers" (I hate seeing that word, see too much of it at SRK's forums).

Anyone else care to comment?

I haven't gotten the chance to play it yet, but I wish it were in 2D. I think Capcom's fighters are so much better in 2D, but this time might be different, I don't know. I like Rival Schools and all, but it's not that great as a 3D fighter. It's a cool game with very cool characters, but I don't think the 3D part of it is that great. I've tried SFEX or whatever they're called, and I didn't care for them either.

i agree it's good to see a lack of shoto-clones and whatnot in the game. plus a lot of my favorite characters are making an appearance [akira, poison, strider].

i do agree i wish it were in 2d though. the only 3d capcom game i've played was justice gakuen and thought it was pretty cool -- but 2d is where it's at in my opinion.

i know i'll defintiely give it a try when it does come out either at my arcade or on a console.

Hey! Dan isn't a Ryu-wannabe! In fact, I'd wagger Ryu wants to be Dan!

I mean seriously! People don't say "I hate Iori and K' because they're Kyo-wannbes" they fight as much like Kyo as Dan fights like Ryu! I mean Geeez...

but anyway off the rant and back on topic, I hope if Ken, Akuma, etc. do show up they're nothing more but extra costumes for Ryu. It sort of ruins the "uniqueness" of Ryu by having a billion guys who fight and look just like him in a game.

I like Akuma WAAAAAY more than I EVER liked Ryu and Ken. I'm not really a fan of either of them in the least, but Akuma's one of my top favorite fighters of all time. But, I do understand the point of making Ryu more "special" by leaving out the others that fight like him.

As for Dan, you do know that he's supposed to be making fun of Ryo and (I think) Robert from Art of Fighting, right? Once someone pointed that out to me, I started laughing... Ryo's fireball dies out about an inch away from his hand, and then there's the "hurricane kick" that he does... In CvS2 on PS2, I made a Dan called "Ryobert" and colored his gi (sp?) orange and his hair dark brown.

I'm really getting excited about this game because it's something new from capcom. Cool cast, new system, and I dont really care about this game being 3d. The only game that just has to be 2d is SF4. Other than that, CFAS is looking promising. Can't wait.

I'm well aware of that fact. Dan's uppercut also acts more like Ryo and Robert's (going almost straight up) instead of like Ryu and Ken's (goes almost roughly a 45 degree angle then up)

And let's not forgot SNK's "counters" to Dan! KoF 2k's Another Robert whiched featured him in a Ryo costume (p1 color was white, p2 was pink. making the joke perfectly clear) who would just taunt if he didn't hit the challenger.

In Gals Fighters SNK also gave Athena a move extremely similar to Dan's MvC series only "Premium Sign" attack.

Now that I have software to make animated gif's and basic sprite ripping knowledge, I actually plan to rip some Ryo and Robert sprites to make a few custom "KoF style Dan" animations over my Winter Break.

YEAH! You guys have good tastes! I see everyone still loves Capcom's 2-D fighters as much as I do.

Anyway,Dr.B,yes you're right,Dan has uniqueness ALL his own. He's cool, but I still consider him Shoto.

Yes,Arika's SFEX series didn't exactly win my heart either. (bleh!)

This game takes place in New York City right? Or Metro City?

Well,I agree with you . CFAS probably will be very good after all . Sure,so far it still has some problems that need to be solved . It won't probably be the best 3D fighting game (MK:DA,which was expected to be the best fighting ever, ended up letting down many of its fans, although I liked it) . But it will provide us with some days of fun,be sure of that ! ^ ^

The fact that Chun-Li's the only SF II character being used is amazing enough (God, the majority of the SF II cast have been in more than enough games!)

Though I doubt I'll ever see this game in an arcade anytime soon, I sure hop I don't end up seeing another MvC style Ryu in this game. That was a bad idea the 1st time around.

Doesn't Ryu count as an SF2 character? ...er... sorta, that is.

On a random note, I'm pretty sure that Metro City is in New York, though yea, it's not New York city. Haggar's Slammasters bio says New York and you can see the statue of liberty from the bay area of Metro City, after all. :p

Hmm, on the Metro City bit, I was keyed up to see that That Girl (TM) in the background of Guy's SFZ 2 stage is FINALLY a fighter...let's see, was she Cody's girlfriend or Haggar's, or neither. Slipped my mind, but good to see her there.

And as long as Capcom's designing this on not that cursed Akira, this game should be fun. Justice Gakuen is one 3D fighting game that's stayed fun for me as it's aged (unlike Tekken 3), and it may be because it really feels like Street Fighter brought into the third dimension. Let's hope this comes out well.

That woman is Poison, who happens to be a new-half. She's not really anybody's girlfriend, and certainly not Haggar's or Cody's ( although she doesn't seem to particularly hate Cody )

Note: Drag queens are men who dress up like women; they don't go the " extra step " like Poison did. As another note, I happen to like Poison. She's pretty cool, regardless of the fact that she has bits and pieces.

Poison is unrequittedly in-love with Cody in Final Fight Revenge made by Capcom of America. I'm pretty positive that Capcom of America had absolutely no clue about Poison's real gender...

It's been a while since I've played FF Revenge ( got rid of it, naturally ) but I don't recall it being clear if she loved Cody or if she was just the only person who felt sorry that he was put in Prison. And besides, even if they DID know Poison was a new half, how would that prevent her being in love with Cody? >:)

I think he means Capcom of USA made Poison 'in love' with Cody because they thought she was just a generic slutty lady (who naturally would find the male hero actractive) but had they have known Poison was originally a male they would have avoided implying such since American's tend to have a "don't want to know" attitude about male-male relationships.

MK:DA is only a let down to fans because they're all bunch of whinny little brats.

I've visted a few MK boards and it's all the same complaints "Only one fatality per character. No Stage Fatalities. No ripping costumes. No Secrets besides what's in the Krpyt. The two secret characters you get from finishing all 218 missions don't have thier own styles or weapons."

Everyone's upset because they want more shit to find, not one of the complaints are on the gameplay and considering that's what the MK Team made their main focus MK:DA turned out exceptional (I love the game, but then again I didn't buy the game expecting thousands of Fatalities, to play as Smoke, Sektor, Shao Khan, Baraka and then unlock an arcade perfect version of MK2)

(a little tired of the argument)
.... Well, in last mounth Arcadia, the comment about Poison was something like "nobody dared to ask, but everybody wonders if she managed to become 100% a girl".
In the japanese gamer communauty, her new-half-ness is known by everyone. But you're free to believe want you want ; after all, it's a game character, not a real person.
It's what is great with fictionnal characters : I can believe Ryu and Alex are a couple and they won't proove me wrong or be offended because -hey!- there' not real!!
Life is great. Or not. It depends. Or maybe. But no.

Pretty sure the 'argument' line was directed towards Naruto, since that's where there was technically an actual disagreement.

Okay. I thought he was talking about me, because he quoted something I said...

Is that DD guy in CAS (or whatever the 3D fighter coming out) supposed to be related to Dante?

He's DareDevil...

OK seriously, he's just made up for the game.

Okay. I was wondering. His outfit's a little too similar to Dante's from what I've seen...

Yeah, I could have sworn she's actually a girl... I know they give her a unit in some hentai stuff, but I didn't think that was the way her character actually was...

It all stemmed from some official history of Capcom book or something that said Poison was a "he".

We won't really know unless bios for each CFAS char are released.

I would take the US translation of such with a grain of salt. I own the "All About Capcom" book and as I've said before, this is an exact translation of the text within:

"Poison was originally intended to be a woman, but since in America, hitting a woman is inexcusable, it was established that she was a 'new-half'."

A "new-half" isn't exactly a man, nor a woman... sort of a median. They all look like girls -- unfortunately, the trick to the treat is that they are "anatomically incorrect" girls. They also tend to take on "girlish" mannerisms and consider themselves girls DESPITE... well, you know.

The fact that Capcom actually did such a thing is hilarious, I think...

Back on Topic - I for one am very positive about the game. Fewer Characters usually mean better endings instead of half Assed MVC2, SFA3, and CVS2 ones. I want some SFIII Third Strike Style endings or full FMV endings! I mean, we just got to get the Full Motion Video Ending of Ryu and Chun-Li getting married! Relax, I know that will never happen and I'm just joking!

Seriously, I get tired of defending the game at Shoryuken.Com as often as I do. While I am positive, I can't really form an opinion until I play it. So far, the cast are all favorites of mine so I can't really complain.
