Ha ha ha.... My team of RPG goofs:
Cap'n Drachma: Team leader... Well, I need somebody who can physically fight worth a damn, so what could be better than a chubby one-eyed pirate? Besides, his " spirit charge " is so cheap, I can't pass it up...
Yoshio (Well, Holiday took Lady.. ^_^): Because he's pretty responsible and smart ( even though he's not a good fighter ). Besides, there aren't too many magic using gardeners around..
Cocks(Same.^_^): Embittered ambiguously gay chef with a suspicous name which I'm sure is supposed to be " Cooks " or at least " Cox " . He has a bloody huge knife, and can heal the rest of the party, too.
Warden Kurtliegen: A snippish, whining, sneaky and dishonest cybernetic warden. What more could you ask for? Besides, every party needs SOMEBODY who doesn't get along with anyone else. What's that you say? He was a villain? Well, tough..
Shadow: You know who I mean. Ninjas are a must for EVERY party.
Feena: Well, I was getting to the end of this, and I realized I didn't have a girl!! Sure, she's a bit " out of place " with this bunch, but she's cute, has green hair, dresses cool, and is both a good fighter AND a good magic user.

Adol from the Book of Y's - The Main Guy - Strong of heart, soft spoken, and always a get up and go guy. Perfect to lead a party and handle the defeating of bad guys.
Terra/Tina Bardford - FF6 - The Main Girl - Magical power, and can be twinked to fight well in melee as well. My first RPG played, so she gets a big nod that way. Plus she has such a neat story too...
Magus - Chrono Trigger - Magical Power - The Magical bombing will commence, and he adds in the dark edge to the party with his back story.
Citan Uzuki - Xenogears - The brains of the operation - Edges out out Mathiu and Lucca as my fvorite RPG thinker. Will plot strategy, and come down and help me kick butt. Which is needed in the party.
Rutee Katrea - Tales of Destiny - The Theif - Okay, so she's more of a lens hunter than a theif. But she's cute, has a nice attack power, and is speedy. So she'll fill the theif roll quite nicely.
Marle - Chrono Trigger - The Healer - I just like her attitude...:)

i promised myself i wouldn't click on this thread. a lot of my favorite rpg characters really don't belong together, and i haven't really played much outside of the Final Fantasy series so a lot of my character choices would probably seem bland. but .... well, who can resist?! i present to you .... the Swordsmen!
Cecil (Final Fantasy IV) one of the main characters of any story that i respect the most. strength, loyalty, and a good heart. he questioned his king's actions when he knew something wasn't right, and he always did his best to protect his friends (also, you have no idea how beautiful of an idea the "paladin" was to me when i was in the 3rd grade. that word and the meaning that FFIV and other games have created for it still puts me in awe to this day)
Cyan (Final Fantasy VI) gameplaywise, swordtechs! what a cool idea! too bad square didn't run with it on many other games. characterwise, like Cecil, Cyan had strength, loyalty, and a good heart (highlight text for small spoiler) in FFVI, all the characters suffered their own tragedies. it was the unity of those characters that let them triumph in the end. Cyan's tragedy was definitely one of the worst. the thought of the train's departure scene still brings me close to tears
Cloud (Final Fantasy VII) sorry, there's just too much to say about him
Beatrix (Final Fantasy IX) click, please
Meliadoul (Final Fantasy Tactics) first, i'm in love with her style. i swear, i wish there were more hooded swordsmen out there. my ideal look for a fighter would be a person in a white mage hood wielding a sword. second, i loved using her in the game. on my team, she was extremely powerful (which is odd because on several faqs and walkthroughs on the internet, they said she was a "weak" character o_O), and against any equipment-wearing human, she was practically invincible. third ... (highlight text for spoiler) i was so happy that she was able to learn the truth. so many people died unnecessarily in FFT. one that stood out was Wiegraf's sister. i really believed that Miluda was going to join your party. god, i was crushed. just like Ramza, she was fighting for a just cause .......
Rose (Legend of Dragoon) ok, more of a long, wicked dagger. actually, come to think of it, i don't remember what her weapon was. i just remembered i loved using this character. and when my suspicions were right and she actually was the thing of the thing (i don't feel like setting up a spoiler tag hehe), i was so excited!!
in the spirit of the white mage's robe, it's time to change the avatar. sorry, TK ^-^

OK, here's mine!!
Link (Zelda games): Your all-purpose guy, he can either slash, shoot arrows, throw bombs, cast magic... Not a leader due to his lonely nature, but useful. Also, LoZ representation is necessary.
Vincent (FFVII): I like this guy. His attitude, his looks, and his story are great. One of the many magic users in my group.
Agrias (FFT): She's the ideal of knight: Loyal and strong, she has great powers, and could be equipped with some white magic, to heal and all.
Freya (FFIX): The first lance user in my group, a Dragon knight is a necessity here. She has a great and tragic story to back her up, among with her great Dragon knight skills.
Magus (Chrono Trigger): Also, the design and personality are great, and here's the second offensive magic user. He could carry some Time Magic spells, I think.
Riesz (SD3): I haven't played the game yet, mind you, but every time I try to begin it (that is, once a year at least) I begin with her. She's the second lance user of the party, but a little more magic oriented than Freya.
And that makes 6 characters. I'm leaving many favourites, like Klarth and Arche(ToP), Frog and Lucca(CT), Zidane and Vivi (FFIX), Tina, Edward, Celes, Locke and Cyan (FF6), Cid and Ramza (FFT), etc, etc, etc...

Valkyrie (Valkyrie no Densetsu, NOT the Valkyrie Profile one): power and beauty grace her. She has amazing skills with the sword and some very powerful attack spells too. She seems to have telepathic abilities too, very useful. She would make a good leader.
Farah Oersted (Tales of Eternia): The closest thing to having SF3's Makoto in an RPG, who can refuse to her? Besides, she can cook too!
Rutee Katrea (Tales of Destiny): if we need a healer, better get someone original. Besides her personality that would make any quest more interesting (and why not, problematic), her stealing abilities are welcome, too.
Citan Uzuki (Xenogears): brains + fighting abilities with and without sword. The coolest character that Square made deserves to be in the party. Hey! this is the only guy in the party, Yui should be worried...
Arche Klaine (Tales of Phantasia): cute magician, amazing skills. Lots of personality too. Bah, she's everyone's ToP favorite character.
Rulue (Madou Monogatari): does she has a lastname? anyway, we need a sexy and bitchy girl too, nothing better that Rulue. She's the same from the Puyo Puyo games, yeah.
