I tried getting drunk off of champagne at my sister's wedding. A few sips and I spit the stuff out.

Happy b-day Zam.

Alcohol is a beautiful thing. While my hard-partying years are behind me, nothing would beat going out with friends on the weekend, bar-hopping until 1 am (getting phone numbers on a good night), and then staggering home. You were always a little hazy (and some folks wake up hurting the next day), but it was always a thoroughly satisfying experience.

So... the moral of this story? Alcohol is your friend, provided you don't drink way too much (in public, anyway) and/or do anything incredibly stupid because of it (some people are just rotten drunks). And for those of you who don't like the taste, keep trying. There's stuff out there for everyone. (Oh, and champagne is awful... gives you wicked headaches + hangovers)

I grew up on the stuff so that may explain my tolerance for it. I don't do diet though(nor that Pepsi One, that's just diet soda with a clever lure attached to it).

I used to like root beer when I was young. I still wonder how I did, I can't stand a mere sip of it today.

LOL.. rootbeer is one of the few things I actually like. Rootbeer and sprite, sometimes. But I can't have them often because they make me sick. Something in it. ^_^;

Why is it called rootbeer anyway?
I can take the occasional soda, but too much makes me feel like my blood is red syrup ^^
As for alcohol, I still don't like the taste of beer. Wine is quite yummy though.

I actually have no interest in any alcoholic beverages. I tasted wine once in church and in my opinion it tastes exactly like what it is--grape juice that has gone bad.

And root beer is among my favorite sodas. Ironic?

why exactly are they always packaged together/produced by the same people? it's not like they have that much in common.

I like quite a variety of alcoholic beverages, but I generally avoid them for various reasons. Anyway, it's called " root beer " because it's made with several different sorts of roots ( I think burdock and sarsaparilla are in it.. ). " Birch Beer " is made using the bark of a birch tree.

Smart people. Diet soda is worse for you than the real stuff; just so you know, aspartame was originally designed as a chemical weapon by the U.S. government. It's lethal when pure. It was determined to have a sweet taste in tests, and was diluted to a level where it could be passed by the FDA ( bribery? ) and is now the sweetener in diet soda ( among other products ). Once ingested, it never leaves your body, but remains in the blood stream. If you have a large enough buildup, it can cause all sorts of nasty health problems. It also degenerates in to an even more toxic substance ( forget what ) after a number of years, and besides all that, it contains methanol, which is a form of wood alcohol ( which isn't the kind you drink. ^_^ )

Hmmm... I always knew there was something inherently evil about diet soda. I could just never quite put a finger on it. Thanks, Rugal. :)

As for the ongoing beverage discussion, I used to drink soda like a man possessed when I was in high school. I'm surprised my teeth never rotted out... I probably drank 4 or 5 cans worth a day. However, when I got to college, I decided to get in shape, gave up soda, and haven't had it since. Don't miss it at all.

As for the person who mentioned their father being a raging alcoholic, I can certainly understand your strong aversion. Much better for a person with that predisposition in their genetic pool not to even start. My father was/is a borderline alcoholic, but that didn't stop me from having some of the greatest nights of my life during college. While alcohol certainly wasn't the entire reason these experiences were so grand, they certainly contributed their fair share.

In the end, it's a matter of knowing when to quit, understanding what kind of drunk you are (if you're not a happy drunk, you shouldn't be drinking), and doing it in moderation in social situations.

Oh, and only shitty beer tastes like horse piss (domestic, mass-produced shit like Bud and its ilk). There are a wide variety of flavors and blends to try for beer, many of them very good (Corona and Yeungling have been my favs of late). Not a big fan of wine and champagne is awful (like seltzer water that gives you a headache). Liquor is my personal poison of choice. A wise man once said, "A good mixed drink will put you in the right mood". :)

<sigh> I sure am thirsty. Anywho, while I certainly respect people who don't drink for religious or personal reasons (genetic alcoholism for one), I wouldn't be too harsh. There's certainly something to be said for having a couple of alcoholic beverages while hanging out with friends. Besides, you'll never get to play any of the great drinking games out there (Example: Evil Dead drinking game = swig for every time Bruce Campbell gets hit in the head).

LOL.. I can't stand diet stuff, either. IT's absolutely digusting. Then again.. I tend to have alergic reactions to thinks that aren't really natural. I can't have artificial dairy either because it makes me sick. LOL.

But the ever intelliegent Rugal has cleared up the details for us. ^_^

I stand firm, though, that anyone who doesn't like alcohol or avoids it is a cool person. ^_^ Too many downsides to the ups if you ask me.
