You probably shouldn't wait to decide on the DQ boxed set -- although it goes on sale in Japan on 1/22/2003, you have to pre-order the set by 11/20/2002. This is the cutoff date for pre-orders, and the number of sets pre-ordered by this date determines the number of sets that will be produced. This is fairly typical of how deluxe specialty items like this set get released in Japan.
Here's a summary of the info from the Sony Music website:
Title: Koukyou Kumikyoku Dragon Quest Complete CD Box [Symphonic Suite: Dragon Quest Complete CD Box] Item #: SVWC-7150~7 Publisher: Sony Music Entertainment (Japan), Inc. Pre-Order Cutoff: 11/20/2002 On Sale Date: 1/22/2003 Price: 12000 yen
Set of 7 CDs, featuring the music of Dragon Quest I - VII performed by the London Philharmonic (remastered with Sony's "super bit-mapping" method); 143 tracks, including several never-released "Demo Tape Versions." Includes a box to hold all 7 discs, and a set of 9 Dragon Quest bottlecaps (each topped with a figurine of a creature from the DQ series).
The online Japanese DVD/CD shop my friends and I run can get this set for you for $109.09 (plus shipping) -- you'd just need to preorder it from us prior to the 11/20/2002 cutoff date.
Regarding Koukyou Kumikyoku Dragon Quest The Best 2 -- the shop in Japan that supplies our online shop with our merchandise has this CD (and 20 other DQ CD titles) in stock now, so the rush to get TB2 (which went on sale 3/20/02) perhaps isn't as great as the rush to preorder the boxed set.

quote: the dragon quest series didn't change alot from it's original root's, it is a bad thing for some people and a good thing for other people,
That's what I had a problem with. Dragon Quest wouldn't have to do much to make it more fun to play, but the way it went lately it was almost the same as playing the previous game, then you gotta wonder if the series was really going to go anywhere. As I grow my tastes over the years I kind of expected DQ to grow as well, but it's like it's stuck in a time loop. There's nothing wrong with sticking to the roots, but there's a problem when you cling to them so tightly you forget why things were the way they were and how they can be better. The Wizardry series got better in that regard and they still feel like Wizardry; adding a whole button to open doors made the original DQ more playable rather than tedious. And animating the monsters in DQ3 Remix was a step in the right direction, but when I looked at DQ7 and they're still doing the same darn things as in DQ3 Remix then I think there's a problem.
Online options don't appeal to me much, really.
yeah that is what I said, you are from the people who like the change , I like how did FF series change (FFX wasn't good change at all, but it is at least Original) but FF series made some bad points as with FF9 , I mean come on a game like that you can end in 12 hours or less!, and alot of CG's which become boaring. the DQ series is afraid from taking such a risk I think, they don't want to lose the old players. I like anything which is Good.
