I voted Maya Amano. I may be biased because of how much I love Persona, but oh well...I really like her design, and I don't get annoyed by her.
Plus I haven't had the chance to play half of the other games.

voted for "other."
I'd vote for celes from FF III/VI - its debatable whether or not she was the main character, but the game as a whole didn't have a real "main" character. I feel she was a strong female lead and grew a lot through the progress of the game.

Terra/Tina from FF6, who was the main character in a wonderful ensamble cast. Plus it was the first real RPG I beat, so I give her lots of points for that...

yeah, chose other for Terra. FF3/6 was the first RPG I played with a female lead and still remains my favorite.

is terra/tina generally regarded as the main character from FF III/VI?
I see it like this: the first half of the game - yes, there is a significant emphasis placed on terra: the her background in the empire, who her parents are, etc, but in the second half, I see it as more celes' story. she wakes up on the solitary island with cid. she tries to kill herself (if you don't save cid. stupid slow fish.), she finds hope in thoughts of locke, so she sets out on the world.

I voted for her, I'm an addict to Compile's saga. I'm currently playing the RPG mode in Puyo Puyo Box (PS).
I liked Maya too, and *really* liked the PE games, but had to choose. ^^'
Oh! and Luna isn't the main character of Lunar!

I voted for "other" too..Propably Celes but she isn't really "the main" character cause FFVI doesn't really have one.. Other than that I'd have to say Aerith but again she's not the main character and dies in the middle of the game.. Rydia from FFIV is not the main char. as well.. So I guess it's Rinoah..^_^

Others! It's Riesz from Seiken Densetsu for me. Well, there are 6 main characters, but she's my main character ^^

Oh yeah, Riesz is great... and well, it can count since she's everybody's favorite (myself included).
And Rinoa... well, it's clear that Squall is the main character, she's just the damsel in distress that FF games like to have...
So far Aya seems to be the winner, the "others" choice has more votes but the credited ones for Celes, Terra/Tina, etc. aren't enough to overpower Mitochondria Girl.

Right now (it's been enough time so I'll close it) seems that our winner is the NY policewoman with japanese parents and bleached hair, Aya Brea. Congratulations to her, hopefully she'll continue protecting us from our own mitochondria. And maybe she'll get a new car.
