I dislike most of the grossly bad translations. It wouldn't hurt some of these producers to higher an actual pro translator for once. In fact it would help them.

"Victoly" is probably my favorite bad translation.

Let's see -- there's always the "Parental Advisoly Warning" on some SNK games.

And, there's a bit of a difference between the English and Spanish scripts of the Ikari Team ending in KOF'99 that I found rather odd (and I'll put a spoiler tag here just in case any readers haven't played through KOF '99 -- yeah, I know most of you have...):

Spoiler (Highlight to view) -
After Whip explains that she made her peace with Krizalid after not being able to save him, the English script has Heidern say, "Sorry to hear that." whereas the Spanish script has Heidern say «¡Que lastima! ¿Eh?» or, "That's a shame, eh?" Probably not the best thing to say to someone after (s)he's lost someone close... O_O;

End of Spoiler

Only thing is, I don't know which is the more accurate translation. Heh -- one of the reasons I like playing through with a different-language script... ^_^ [Has anyone here tried the Portuguese script?]

Now, a side note about the following...
quote:
2) "Jeidern"- bad spellng of Heidern's name on SNK's old website, and in KoF english manual booklet.
...I'm wondering -- given that the 'J' in Spanish is pronounced like the 'H' in English, and given that most Neo-Geo carts are multi-lingual... might that have anything to do with the misspelling? (There's also that 'H' is also right next to 'J' on the keyboard...)

But, probably my favorite bad translation:

There's also a moment of the English translation in Tecmo's Monster Rancher 2. Most of the text is actually pretty well-translated, but there's one section where Colt, the girl who's your guide in the game, shows you a tree that begins to grow on the ranch and proceeds to comment, "I wonder it buds the flower?"

The portuguese script in some of the last games is much better than some of games that came out before 97(98?)...
my first experience with the portugñese was with KOF96... it's like they picked up the engrish script and tried to use babylon and babelfish some times to check if the translation would be without errors...

but the worst I've ever seen in portugñese was the Fatal Fury 3 cut scene texts... try to go beating the enemies in single player with (mai, mary, I don't rememeber) and in the Fight with Joe some portuguese readers will have an laugh attack...

No english translation will ever be as bad as a really well bad done (?) french translation. I heard that for the first half of FF7, Yuffie is a boy. Then, they understand she is a girl, and the script changes suddenly, without excuse....
It must be quite odd.

I played AoF 3 on Portuguese & KoF '95, the translation was crappy (then again, I have only slight domain of portuguese).

And I would dare to say that the "Zpanish" translations are more acurrated, but a lot of mistakes... But that with some exceptions (KoF '2000 storyline is screwed up REALLY BADLY by a few misplaced words; if you haven't noticed). It may be better to declare that both translations suck ass big time.

And as for the translations I recall the phrase of KoF '94 "Estamos en Pelogro" by Joe Higashi, that would be like "We are in Donger" on english... And it wasn't a "human" mistake (the O and the I -the reason of the fault- are next to each other); because I have seen that many times.

To think that I learnt English with those translations (now my low redacting skills seems justified, Don't they??)

1- SamuraiShowdown 2 will always have a place in my heart for it's bad SNK Engrish and it's always funny win quotes ruining what was a very serious story...

2- Ranma 1/2 Hard Battle - Bad Rominzation errors, bad translation, and some laughable errors make this somewhat lacking fighter very funny for Ranma fans...in an unintentional way.

3- FFVII - A step back from the fine translations of FFVI and CT, this was just an example of super literal translations being taken too far...

Star Ocean 2: Claude: "Shooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot!!!"
- It was just so inappropriate for the moment.

Then there's the classic "Congraturations. A winner is you."

- Is the "spoony bard" thing a translation screwup? If so, that's definitely up there for me.

Hehe, its worse than that. Its "Wubba, wubba, I'm in the pink today!". The "big silly" quote had me on the floor for a solid 3 minutes.

Definetely some restrained homosexuality in those quotes. ;)

After a hard fought battle it never seemed like the best reward possible to have the computer squeal "We-nah!" at you while big tough guys like Heidern spouted silly lines like that.

My favorite crappy translation has to be in Chrono Cross. Crono's first attack, called Confuse, had the following colorful description: "Attack with confuse"
Wow. TED WOOSLEY, YUO ARE GENIUS!
