NOW I remember! Yes, there's a Tengai Makyo fighting game for Neo Geo, too. It's REALLY rare, though. I'd imagine the side-scroller is for PC Engine; there's also a beat 'em up and an RPG, too.. I've never played any of them, period, although I certainly want to, and I have debated buying them in the past. ( I know the PC Engine beat 'em up requires an arcade card, though.. which I don't have. -_- )I completely forgot about these.. thanks for reminding me, even if it was a complete coincidence. ^_^

Tengai 0 is on SFC and the cardrige has something the rom will never have : it has a clock inside, when you first play, it asks you the day, and after that depending on the day, you have special events (ie hanami if you play a day when sakura blossom, Santa if you play 25 december, etc). Other than that, it's an OK game, a little old. The 2 is great, but I had it only last year, so it doesn't have for me the magic it has in the eyes of those who played it when it first was released (they all say it's the best RPG ever created). And the 4 is on Saturn, and it has some really funny gags, along with a very deep and non-funny story. Overall, I would say... the series is old, good, and funny. very, very funny. It need time, japanese knowlege (not only the language, but the culture too, like Goemon) and most of all, it needs a player that want to play an interesting game, not a super hype tiptop thing with plenty of polygons everywhere and funky magic that make say whao. Some parts of the games are outdated, but if you find them at a reasonable prise, they all worth a try.

Yes, Tengai is a shooter by Psikyo, and was released in 1996. IIRC, Tengai is it's original name, and Sengoku Blade is its... Westernised name? Anyway, I've played the "Tengai" version in Asia.
Very very nice side-scrolling shmup, and my favourite character is Junis. That fire spewing monkey(?) is very useful. Ayin is nice too, but his super damaging close range sword slash is quite risky to perform at times.
It's available for the Saturn, but it's uber rare and uber expensive :) If you really want it, I think it's better if you get the PCB board version. I found a site with a bit of info about it here:
