Not only are some of the best games ever created, and usually quoted as the best ones in their genres, but I just found out that one of the two FFT composers, Hitoshi Sakimoto, also did the -excellent- soundtrack for Radiant Silvergun. I wonder who worked on Ikaruga.
I know, an useless fact, but cool anyway.

Yes, he did, in addition to Vagrant Story and Ogre Battle. Also he is currently signed to co-write the Breath of Fire V sountrack with Yasunori Mitsuda.
As for the Ikaruga soundtrack, that was Hiroshi Iuchi... haven't heard the name before but he also did the Background Graphic Design in that game, apparently.
Oh, and if anyone's interested in the RS sountrack it's available for leeching from System Zero.

More than just background design. He is listed as director of the game. Actually for "BG graphic design" he's listed as "Hiroshi Iuchi 13" whatever that might mean.
I really don't think the music is all that. It's...boring. ^^ Radiant Silvergun's music was sophisticated, cohesive, wonderfully developed...involving and memorable. Ikaruga...eh. My take.

I agree that it definitely doesn't top Radiant Silvergun, though I thought it was a mixed bag. I like the first and fourth chapter music, but the others were a little passé. Especially the third, with its dong diggy dong koto sound going on. What's up with that? :P

Ditto... if it's by Hitoshi Sakimoto, I must to give it a try, at least.

Koto sound? The third? Are you describing the tube bells? I can't find fault with the beginning third chapter music, except for perhaps how it loops...

No, when the music slows down and the chapter displays, all of a sudden the koto starts up. I just thought the oriental flavor was kinda unnecessary and distracting... not exactly with the flow of the music.

Well chapter 3 has two pieces of music, corresponding to track 17 and 18 from the OST CD...and I don't hear a koto. :\ Are you going by actual chapter numbers or chapter play order? Can you give the subsection that it occurs in?
When you say slowing down, I think of the track for level 2c through 2e, beginning with the snake. I'm really not certain which piece of music you're referring to...

What snake?
Oh, wait I get what's happening here. I'm talking about Ikaruga, not RS.

Doh! My fault. It sounded like you were saying RS was a mixed bag... ^^;;

Yes, the Ikaruga soundtrack isn't as good as the RS one, but I don't think that it's bad, either... it fits the game really well.
