I still haven't got any access to these on my game. Any ideas on how they're accessed? Time released, like credits? Beating the game at certain levels? Getting a high number of chains? Standing on one leg and hopping? Any ideas/truths would be appreciated. Really wish I read Japanese now.
On somewhat of a side note, I'm really enjoying this game. I do feel that I get killed cheaply here and there, but I don't complain too badly, as I think they let me get away with some stuff that surely deserved death, too. The graphics are oddly great (face facts: when was the last time a game was basically all blue, black, red, and white?), but the musical score truly pounds. I find myself humming the stinking boss music wherever I go.
Another nice thing: it does get progressively harder to get further in the game. Sure, the ever-expanding continues help, but as with any good shooter, survival is something that has to be *earned* with good play. Once survival is gotten down, then technique comes into play...the second sign of a great shooter. And believe me, I'm going to have to work *long* and *hard* to get the chains anywhere *near* impressive. But I'm enjoying the trip.
Love the bosses. While the first samurai boss was a basic pushover, subsequent bosses, and even mid-bosses, offer plenty to keep me occupied. I especially like the protected weak points of the second boss, and the way you have to open them with the correct type of shot. Lotsa strategy there.
So far, Stage 4 is the farthest I've reached. It's absolutely ripping me apart, but then, Stage 4 in *any* shooter should be pounding those still playing into the pavement. Look at Viewpoint: Stage 4 was where the rubber *really* met the road. Stage 4's Four Face in Viewpoint is the pseudo-equal to Stage 4's Spinning Satellite Dish in Ikaruga. Survival is everything, and once you figure out survival, *then* you can figure out the best strategies.
Oh, by the way, is there anyone else out there like me, who won't start out playing on "easy"? I just can't bring myself to get through the game that quickly without at least earning it on normal.
Pinball reigns. You heard me right.
