OK, here's the story.
I have a save on Final Fantasy X. It's about 98 hours. I have ALL the secrets except for about 1 or 2. I've got ALL THE OVERDRIVES. I've gotten every sigil except for Kimarhi's. My roster IS THE SHIT!! I can walk right into the Omega Ruins and kill an enemy on 1 HIT.
I've got all the Celestial Weapons except for Kimarhi's. Anyway, I have the airship and I have to fight Sin next, but first I wanted to get all the stuff.
Anyway, my friend comes over and stay the night (he's here right now) and he has 72 hours total and is at the end of the game HIS ROSTER SUCKS!!!!. He can't kill shit! He can't do shit, he's missing a lot of secrets. Anyway, he had 1 Al Bhed book that I didn't have, and you know how you can do that memory card thing to combine the books? Well, we did that and HE got all the Al Bhed books. Later I helped him get some secrets and stuff. He still can't get Anima and the Magus Sisters and Nirvana powered up. His roster still sucks ass, but he's better. Anyway, I go to play and HIS SAVE IS ON MY FUCKING MEMORY CARD!!!!!! He must have somehow accidently saved over my stuff with his shitty ass roster and everything, BUT I have all the Al Bhed books. He thinks it happened because of the book thing, but all the other saves are JUST FINE! The last time I saved I was fighting in the Omega Ruins to get experience and then I started again on the airship with 72 hours of play and a really shitty roster of characters.
Basically I just wasted 98 hours of my life on that damned game FOR NOTHING!! I will NEVER play Final Fantasy X nor any other Final Fantasy game because of this! I don't want to SEE or HEAR Final Fantasy X EVER AGAIN!! I'm so pissed right now that I'm even considering selling my PS2 to someone.
I feel like yelling right now, but it's 3:43 AM so I have to be quiet.

damn, that really blows, dude. i had to scan through your ranting to be careful of any potential spoilers (yes, i haven't played it yet -_-), but i think i got the gist of it. he's still there?! kick his ass!
ehhh, i guess it was an accident, unless it was some sick passive-aggressive way to attack you. dunno what to say, man, except since it's probably 3:50am over there right now, go ahead and get some sleep. you'll probably feel better in the morning/afternoon when you wake up (you'll have more energy to kick his ass then ^-^ hehe)

WHOA!!!
Believe me, I know how devastasing this accident is to you and how you feel. I had once a virus attack on my computer that wiped out gigabytes of my precious stuff like mp3, games and other important documents in an instant. My entire life, the countless hours and the energy I have spent are gone...there is no turning back. It is as if someone had taken a deep stab behind my back, and my soul and heart destroyed...
When I looked back and reflected on it, I realised that I haven't been careful to take measures to protect the things I love/have. I should have backed up my stuff whenever I had the chance, but I was too careless to trust the chances of any accident that could have happened. I had myself to be blamed for it...
My point is, take it as a lesson learnt to be more careful the next time. No point blaming your cousin, or Square...It was an accident and that's that. No point turning back time.
Take deep breathes and calm yourself down. Take this opportunity to do other things that you haven't been doing. Take your mind off the accident and the game for a while, say, 1 month or so. Get back to relish the fun of the game...
Hope this helps.

Few questions 'n junk:
1. Have you considered, oh, buying a backup memory card to copy all those really, really important files to? Yeah, I know they're expensive, but compared to 98 hours you might never see again...
2. Alternatively, maybe you could clearly label your card so you don't lose important information?
3. Alternatively, you could just keep your card to yourself and not let others use it (which I do, BTW)? I'm sure most people would understand and not hold a grudge.
4. You know, everyone bashes the Gameshark because it lets you get the really good stuff without the work and blah blah. But what if you did work really hard to get all the good stuff, but it got lost somehow? Wouldn't you be entitled to get it back, even if it had to be via a "cheat" device? (There's also something called Codebreaker; it's good too.)
Hey, I've been driven to madness by home console games too many times to count. Just trying to make it as fun an experience as possible. Which is the point, right?

1. If you've got the money, I'll buy one
2. It's not my memory card. I onlly own the PS2 and a controller. I have no games, just DVD's.
3. The memory card I used was in the 1st slot and his was in the 2nd.
4. See No.1

Thanks Beast. I'm cool now. I just went right through KOF2001 to release some anger and stress and tension and stuff. I didn't lose with one character amazingly. I guess I was that ticked off?

Sucktastic scenario mate, I can imagine the pain...heads would roll if my mastered Ken Masters (har) ever got erased off of my Zero 3 save...well, more than that, having to go through the sheer PAIN needed to get Guile, Shin Gouki, Satsui No Hadou Ryuu, and their lot.
RPG perfecting is dangerous business...for some unknown reason, I bothered to kill the Weapons in the seventh Final Fantasy even though it was my first try and clearly I was missing stuff anyway. Silly idea. The second time, I played it perfect, not rewarding. The third time, I played and never went to level up, just grabbed secrets that were on my way and didn't hassle myself. This last time I had the very most fun. The last boss was hard, the game was fast, and my hold of the story didn't disappear with twenty hours of gaming I shouldn't have done. There may be a lesson here.
Heh, and yet I'm the only one I know to have gotten all the cards in VIII (perfect except I'm missing Quistis' damned Power Generater-made Blue Magic thanks to worthless misinformation from Brady Games). I think that was what made me decide to have fun again. Plus I don't worry about my saves disappearing, heh.
