Wow...You guys sure are observant... I never noted them in movies.
However in some Hong Kong serials and movies (and probably some other Asian serials and movies as well), when the young leads want to unwind, relax and find fun, they will almost always frequent a disco or arcade (like, there is no other place to go).
What is so funny is that when they show the leads pounding on the machine buttons and joystick, they took a long shot of the machine and the leads, but as veteran players you will still recognise what is the game they are playing from far. After which they will take a close-up shot to show which is the winning party, they will have to film a screenshot of the game. So sometimes, they can be playing KOF at first and the close-up shot can be Street Fighter or Tekken.
In another scene, the male lead is seen playing DDR and his moves attract quite a crowd of onlookers. Even with the long shot, you can still catch a glimpse of the machine with the words "Insert coin" and as a veteran player you wonder why is this guy still happily doing his DDR moves?? Then they will film a close-up screenshot of "Stage Clear" and the onlookers will applause loudly for the male lead, appreciating his moves...I was laughing my heads off...
Anyway, the arcade scenes often have a certain meaning to the leads in the shows. For example, after the arcade scene we are supposed to understand that the leads have better impression of each other, or are having fun, or are very cool...something like that...Thus they often do not care about the minor details such as wrong games etc.
