I've a DC that's had the swap mod performed on it. You know the one - disconnect the battery and hold the lid switch back with an elastic band.

Well, when they were doing it they didn't use an elastic band, they seem to have disabled the switch completely. The lid switch still moves back and forth but the DC acts as if the lid is always shut. So it's impossible to switch games without turning off the DC and boot discs are completely impossible.

Does anyone have knowledge of what might have been done to the DC? I've taken it apart to see if they did some soldering underneath the switch but I can't find anything out of the ordinary. Heeeelp!

Hmm don't know what to tell you, I'm no electrician, but DC's are cheap now, you can get one for 50 bucks, I think its a system worth replacing, I mean with all the emulators and homebrewn stuff for it, nothing else like playing hundreds of NES roms off a CD-R on your Dreamcast ^_^ And if you do buy a new one, just download a boot disc image and burn it with a cd-r, they got one at megagames.com

Yeah, I play the NES games too. Loads of fun playing Megaman 3. Anyway, Dreamcasts are HARD to find now. I have 2 of them now because when my older DC breaks down I'll be ready.

I'd like to keep it because it's an early model Japanese Dreamcast with a quiet GD drive. I have a PAL DC too. But I'd really like to be able to change games on the Japanese one without switching off the power. And use boot discs too.
