OK, this is what I've found out about it. Been looking around for info.

1. The backgrounds are in 2D.
2. The sound is not streamed from the GD-ROM.
3. Playmore put in the Original and Arranged music
4. The sprite sizes are the same as the other KOF DC ports, but the game looks better than the others.
5. It's VGA compatible
6. The controls are the same as KOF: Evolution.
7. Puzzle Mode has to be unlocked
8. Beating the game unlockes puzzle mode
9. Completing puzzles unlock secret backgrounds and maniac strikers
10. The puzzle mode is difficult (that's what I heard)
11. No English language option
12. Music keeps playing like KOF:Evolution

That's all I've heard from people who have it so far.

EDIT: I'm looking for more information right now, about how it plays and stuff.

OK, I went to GameFAQs and read this:

"Oh dear...

Well, the "round", "KO", "Winner", and the "hit pictures" (when you hit the opponent and the hit picture shows up where or near where you hit them) and some backgrounds are messed up. Sorta like the NES games that just crap out on you in the middle of playing them. You can still play the game but it looks bad with that scrambled text. IF YOU HAVE A GAMESHARK, please check this and let me know ASAP how it looks.

If you use a MODCHIP to play imports on your DC, also let me know how it looks...between me and my brother, NCS is getting rich, and if I have to mod my DC, even richer.

For once I will say the OST is better than the AST. When SNK put AST music in their games, they remixed the music. Instead, Playmore pretty much DIRECTLY RIPPED the tracks off the AST...doesn't sound as good.

Graphically, some of the colors look off. Dull, perhaps. The two times I played, we got the new backgrounds (one was Chizuru KOF96, the other I THINK is Rugal from 94). So I don't know how the OLD backgrounds look.

Please guys, get back to me with what you're getting on this. I'm more concerned about the text being garbled up than the backgrounds. I might get a VGA box just to see how it looks. But if you guys got this game, let me know what method you use to have your DC play imports (mod, Game Shark, MP3DC, etc) and if it looks fine or not."

So, if anybody here has gotten it, or will get it today, can you check on this?

OK, more things I've heard this time about the main menu.

1.) It's in Hi-Res.(So it takes a bit longer to load)
2.) Has team play
3.) Has Team Vs.
4.) Has single play
5.) Has single Vs.
6.) Has a Practice mode
7.) Options (of course)
8.) And a Gallery mode

The Gallery Menu has

1.) Art Gallery
2.) Puzzle

OK. The art gallery menu has:

1.) Practice Graphic Mode
2.) Challenge Graphic Mode
3.) Special Graphic Mode

I have NO CLUE as to what that does or means.

The Puzzle Menu has:

1.) How to Play (we know what this is)
2.) Practice Mode
3.) Challenge Mode (This sounds interesting)
4.) Special Mode (Secrets and stuff)

Chizuru's Stadium background from KOF'96 and Rugal's KOF '94 background is in the game too.

Some backgrounds have all the animation in them, while some do not. I still don't know if the respective music for the backgrounds are in or not.

I guess Kula and Zero are playable right from the beginning. They should be unlockable with the puzzle though. That's how I would have done it.

I read that on the stage with the dump and stuff, the bulldozer isn't seen coming through the wall. It just magically shows up the next round.

EDIT: OK, SOMETIMES it comes through the walls. I guess it's a random thing.

Don't know about some of the other KOF home games, but I know the PS 96 and 97 had AST music and I thought it worked out fine. For the next round, they would start the track in the middle after loading finished. I forget which one the DC 98 had, but I remember that the track restarted each round... That was annoying.

The stuff about the streaming sound is that it's not being loaded from the GD-ROM while your playing like in Mark of the Wolves and Last Blade 2. Basically that means that the sound effects and voices are gonna be right with the moves and stuff.

Why don't you like the controls for KOF Evolution. I thought they were pretty easy with the taunting on one trigger and the striker with the other trigger. I don't know if the game controls better or not though.

The no english language option does kinda suck.

Yeah, KOF Dream Match 1999 (AKA KOF'98) had the restarting music after each round. I hated that too.

Mainly, I didn't like the button layout. I first saw it at E3 when there still was such a thing as an SNK and they had their booth with a playable JP version of the game. The button layout in the game is more of a Capcom one and not an SNK style, if you'd like to think of it that way. I'm used to it being

Top Left = HP, Top Right = HK, Bottom Left = WP, Bottom Right = WK

Instead, it was

Top Left = WP, Top Right = HP, Bottom Left = WK, Bottom Right = HK

And it took me forever to configure them the "right" way since all the text was in Japanese. Afterwards, I stayed at the SNK Booth forever and they gave me a hat to go away since I would just stay there all day and beat people. ;D

Well, crap. Is there something wrong with my account, I wonder? My earlier messages didn't go through.

Anyway, I just got KOF 2000 today, though I've only had time to play for about ten minutes. Indeed, the game is only in Japanese. Odd, but it was the same way with Last Blade 2.

The music is ripped straight from the Arranged soundtracks, note for note. You don't actually notice this unless the round takes a while, or you're playing against the Psycho Soldiers. Naturally, the character selection music and all is arranged as well. The option to use the original music exists as well. The music doesn't restart between rounds. I didn't notice a lag in voices, but I didn't notice them in MotW, either.

I saw no garbled text anywhere. I played it using a GameShark.

Kula's playable at the start, but apparantly not Zero. You don't need to unlock Maniac Strikers. (at least, not Another Iori)

I don't think the sprites are more detailed over the Neo Geo version, but the backgrounds definitely look improved. All the new backgrounds are locked, I think, so I haven't seen any of those in the short time I've had to play.

The Now Loading screens show up when the game loads at startup and when go between the main menu and the various options. The load screens show a high-res image of the character designs for a particular team. The gallery has pictures of the character designs as well, in addition to a few dozen locked pictures.
