The local arcade here just got the English version of SC2, so for fun here's a mini-review, since I think there was probably info posted on the Japanese version here already. (If I'm wrong about that just let me know and I'll answer any questions I can.)
First, the graphics look decent. Logically better than the ones in SC, though not a huge leap over the DC version.
Second, everyone speaks English. That's right, EVERYONE. Mitsurugi, Siegfried, Xiangua, Maxi, everyone. At the very least the voices are okay though, once you get used to them. Their little phrases have a very "rough-translated" sound to them though.
Thirdly, everyone has a load of new moves but the game is pretty much the same. Raphael is awesome, Talim seems limited by comparison but not useless. Cassandra is pretty different from Sophitia. Walls have hardly any effect; you can get hit into them but only while airborne. Ring outs are strangely unpredicatable.
Overall it's fun. I never had a chance to enjoy any competition in SC1 before so it's an experience.

I saw a screen where it showed various modes you could choose from. Is that in the arcade or is it arcade mode only?

1. How different is Yunsung from Hwang?
2. What's new with Astaroth?
3. The other characters (Cervantes, Yoshimitsu, etc.) are time-released, right?
4. I've seen pics of the stages, but that's not really enough. Could anyone describe them a bit more?
5. Is the last boss Charade or Inferno?
I'll probably have more later...
1. Yunsung = Hwang w/ Hwoarang's flamingo stance + speed and other moves. Very hwang ish, but doesn't share as many moves with Xiang Hua as Hwang did.
2. That's a big question to ask. His HCB throw can ring out now.
3. Yes, although Yoshi is the only one out anywhere (Japan) yet. He has Tekken 4 steal moves now.
4. Another big question. Generally more spatious, walls don't play as big a role as they did in T4, other than limiting ring outs. Actually, in general ring outs are more rare. (Though not completely gone)
5. Inferno is the last boss, Charade is Cassandra's sub boss. Oh, and if anyone cares, Charade is female as she is the shards of the female Soul Edge.

Raven made it for me....I didn't ask him, he just did. I was glad, it's very nice. I like the tag he made for me too.

Oop, I left for a day. Others seem to have answered the questions though so no biggie.
To elaborate on the walls a little, the walls are a little like Tekken 4 but not as abusable. You can be hit into them during juggles and you can tech off of them but it's not as easy or haphazard as T4. Ring outs are unusual. One time I knocked a guy onto the edge so half his body was hanging over the edge but he didn't fall. Another time on a round stage I knocked him so that only his foot was barely touching the edge and he fell in. So ring outs are pretty loose and unpredictable at times. Have caution.
And if anyone cares, the boss battle with Inferno is only one round, and he changes style 3 times during the battle. It's interesting because as you hit Inferno, flames fall off of him and start burning the ground (they don't hurt you) until eventually all you see is flames everywhere, then he draws them in and changes styles.
Oh and Charade = Edge Master, Mokujin, Soul Edge etc. You know what I mean.

Good to hear they've gotten away from the wall traps in T4. While pinning someone against a wall and beating the hell out of them with Kazuya was fun it did need to be toned down. Say, is there anything breakable in the stages such as walls, windows, or other junk you can smash through for fun or to enter other parts of the arena?

Sounds cool. Does your character have to stand there and watch Inferno re-collect himself or do you get a free shot at him when he switches styles?

I keep hoping one of these days Namco will stop adding those sort of characters.

Not as far as I've seen. All the walls are static as are the stages. Just like SC1 with walls. That's really it.

Nope. It's a round change sort of thing. The actions stops, he recollects himself, and then it starts anew. The annoying thing about Inferno now, is that fighting him, is like the Boss battle on DOA3. It's not Inferno that's so hard. It's the fact that the stage itself is against you, in that the flames make it very hard to see Inferno after you've delt him some decent damage. It's kinda stupid if you ask me. I'd rather have a hard boss, than a cheap trick.

quote: And no, I'm pretty sure Namco has indicated that there are no clone characters a la Seung Mina, Hwang, Lizard Man, etc.
since when was mina a clone? she came first. it's that punk kilik who's the clone...
Well, I meant clones of each other. And since Kilik IS in the game, it probably means no Seung Mina.
It seems to me like SC2 is like SC light. From all the SC2 boards, the general consensus seems to be that the engine is dummied down, almost half of the old characters are gone and with the exception of walls there's nothing really new. I want that to not be the case since I'm really looking forward to this game. I hope there are at least some interesting time releases and it's not just Yoshimitsu, Cervantes and Charade. I mean Charade doesn't even count since she's a stupid random style character.
