I'm sure it's old (movie was released on 2001), but I just saw the DVD at local Best Buy for the first time... Apparently they had to change the story & most of the characters to avoid potential lawsuit from Namco or something. (but for some reason one character kept the look of Tekken 3 Hwoarang 2P almost to the tee)
Anyone actually seen it? If so, how bad is it? :D

Even though I have not seen the movie, the only thing I know is that at the end of the movie is stated:

This movie is not related by any means to the Namco Tekken games

My bety is that the writer just dig up the game, liked it and based one character on it, also the name (remember that is not ilegal to name articles with the name of other things; for example if I open a restaurant called MMcafe the professor can't sue me, but if I open another web site also called MMcafe the Professor THEN can sue me, so please don't do it :P)

According to what I know, the production team said in an interview that the movie was inspired by Tekken, so it is no wonder that they tried to make some of the characters look like Tekken fighters. Like Papa Mono said, they had to change the thing so as to prevent lawsuits.

But the whole movie had nothing to do with Tekken storyline, and the movie was kinda lame, except for some good special effects.

By the way, the producer had a reputation for creating spoof movies on whatever is popular. In 1993, he made a live action movie of...yup, you guessed it...

I have seen it, it is really strange. Actually not all that good IMHO. It's funny the first fight with the guy that looks like Hwoarang fighting the guy that looks like Jin (actual names escape me), there's a lot of overdone special effects all over the place since it's a sort of futuristic setting. The whole movie is pretty much like that. :P

Hey, isn't Sammo Hung supposed to be doing something with the Soul Calibur live action movie sometime, or did the production get canned?
