In the technology section of the 6/8/02 edition of the NY Times there's an article on Midway and it's less than stellar performance in the past few years. [Sorry, I can't provide a URL since the site requires you to log-in.] Since it sounds like Midway is doing even more poorly than I thought I wonder if the company is even going to be around much longer.

How correct is this statement?
"Midway ignited an arcade boom in 1978 and 1981 by importing the Japanese arcade hits Space Invaders and Pac-Man."

Hmm... Midway simply needs to get its act together and start focusing on quality, instead of rushing out halfassed crap that gives the company such a bad reputation. For every good game, such as Spy Hunter, we get fifty Arctic Thunders. They have their moments, though - as few and far between as they are.

True, as crappy as they are I enjoy the SF Rush series a lot.

Indeed, and I have to confess that I enjoy Gauntlet: Dark Legacy.

Fairly accurate I'd say. While they didn't have anything to do with developing Space Invaders or Pac-Man they probably did pretty well just with distributing arcade cabinets. Heck, it's hard to find any American Pac-Man merchandise from that time period that doesn't have Midway's name stamped all over it. Midway may never have been an innovator in the video game market but they used to be a lot better at riding popular trends.
