No, It's about the HOMERUN CONTEST !
He he he, yup, Yoshi can hit the farthest, but it is the flutter kick they are talking about. If you hit the bag with the flutter kick you will do tons of damage to the bag. You have to be careful not to do the slam attack though, cause it happens by accident sometimes. Keep flutter kicking it as much as you can and then beat the crap out of it.

Hmm maybe this is a bit more clear, i took it from gamefaqs.com in their codes and secrets section=
To unlock the original Yoshi's Island stage from the N64 version of the game, use Yoshi and hit over 1,350 ft. (400m in the JP version) in the Home-Run Contest. To do such, stand next to the Sandbag and TAP the X or Y buttons to jump, then use the Down + A move to hit the bag for around 30% damage each time. Do that about 4 times to get the bag up to around 100-110% damage. Since you won't have much time left, get the bat and use a Smash hit to send the bag flying. If you did it all well enough, you should make it well over the required distance.
quote: Basically just do small jumps on the bag, and tap "down" and "a" like hungrywolf said. Just do this over and over quickly, and careful with the jump button because if you jump high you will lose time. Once you have around 4 or 3 seconds left, quicly grab the bat and do a smash move on the bag.

But the damage is not enough ... to reach 400 meters (to gain the "old" yoshi's stage) !

It works for me...impt. question, did you pick up the bat first? DON'T PICK IT UP FIRST if you did. Do the kicking first and grab the bat at the very last second and do the smash hit to the bag.

I don't think it'll do the flutter kick that does a lot of damage if you are holding the bat.

Are you doing the flutter kick? Cause if so, you should be hitting the bag a lot of times when you are fluttering down and kicking the bag, and the more times you hit it during the flutter kick, the more damage you do. You have to start hitting it right above the bag and hit it multiple times until Yoshi lands, then you repeat the process until time is almost out and you grab the bat and smash it! It doesn't matter about the version, but I have the American version.

This is helpful because if you start out with a dashing right+A attack that does 16%, the Sandbag will stay on the field of play and not fall off. You will also be able to hit the Sandbag a few feet farther than if the game's language was English." from Gamefaqs so, still, you shouldn't be doing a dashing right+A attack anyway to try to do massive damage to the bag....
-_-# rrrr.... I know that, I'm not stupid !!! (have you read the 1rst post ?) But when I did this fuckin' flutter kick, the damage is lower than the US version ! Everytime, I did this kick, the damage is only 19 % !!! What's the damage in your game when you do it ? (one time)

After trying repeatedly, I never managed to get more than 22% out of each flutter kick with Yoshi, so I couldn't get over 400 m with him.
However, here's a working method (done it twice):
Pick Bowser. Dash up to the bag and press down+A (spinning shield move) which throws the bag into the air with you right below it. Charge a up+A move and hit it as it comes down. As it goes up, charge again and hit it, and repeat again for a total of one spinning shield and three head butts - since it goes higher and higher you can charge more each time. The bag will go so far up that Bowser is off screen.
Now go slightly to the left (you'll need to practice how far to go since you can't see anything), pick up the bat, go back a few steps right. The time should now be at 2 or 1. Start charging the bat (forward+A), not too soon and not too late, and then hit the bag on volley before it touches ground. If the bag it flying just high enough, you will have time to charge the bat even after the timer counts down, and it will hit just as the bag comes down.
It'll go flying at a very high angle and land somewhere around 410 m. Good luck!

I borrowed this game... played it to death and now i hate it...
But that yoshi method worked...
at first i was getting crappy scores with yoshi but now i can get 800+m and i can get 30+% with the flutter kick...
pick yoshi... pick up the bat straight away. stand right next to the bag and the TAP the jump button so its small then hit down and A and HAMMER THAT A BUTTON like theres no tomorrow... should be able to do it 4 times and get 30+% each time then smash with bat :) piece of pie
i repeat... never EVER play this game by yourself... it will drive you mad
