Gamers.com

Our sources in Japan tell us that the GameCube version of Namco's Soul Calibur 2 will feature the older, harder Link from the infamous Spaceworld 2000 video as a hidden playable character. Unlockable only with the game, no extra peripherals required, Link's trusty Master Sword will almost certainly be included in the arsenal that is Soul Calibur 2. Link will be featured only in the GameCube version of the game, and no platform-specific hidden characters will appear in either the Xbox or PS2 version.

I'd say it's an interesting RUMOR at this point... Although it'd be very cool if it does turn out to be true.

I don't know... this rumor seems a bit exaggerated...
Anyway, I don't like Soul Calibur, so it matters not...

If not for the Triforce pact this would certainly be proven false.

But I don't think even Nintendo is that desperate...

Don't wanna get my hopes up. It'd be cool, and I like Link and Soul Calibur, but don't know if I'd like them together. Well, it's just a rumor, I won't believe it unless I see it.

well Yoshimitsu in Soul Calibur 1 proves cameos are totally possible...

It sounds pretty fals though, and the only thing keeping me from laughing is the Triforce system and Namco's upcoming Star Fox game... it sounds interesting at best.

Hmm, I hope this rumor's true, only because it would make choosing which SC2 version to get so much easier!

EDIT: Heh, I just realized that the article is by Nich Maragos formaly of the GIA...

Is he with Gameforms as well?

I gotta agree with that statement, the only thing that would get me to get the GCN over the XBox version is something extremely cool and exclusive... Link certainly would fit the bill.

>_< My only concern is my friend whose obessed with Samurais AND Link will never want to stop playing if it's true.

I think it's cool. I mean that gives the GameCube owners an inch over the PS2 owners that want this game. If you own both, you might buy the GC version just for Link (If you're a Zelda fan)

I just want Link to look sorta tough. A character to be taken seriously, y'know. Not a cartoony nice looking swordsman.

And because of that, I'm believing the rumor aa for now! Will Link have the grapple hook, the bombs, the arrows, the magic...? I doubt so.

Nintendo would never agree. They are trying to make everyone understand that the Zelda license is for kids with their cel shaded thing, and it would be completely contradictory to let Link appear in the same game as Ivy.
He would look ridiculous with his elf clothes, he just wouldn't fit in. Yoshimitsu was a cameo but he is a cameo from a Namco game, and so would have been the Valkyrie who was in the early developement stages of the first Calibur.
And anyways, it's Nintendo we're talking about, right? Nin-Ten-Do.

Cel-da doesn't mean the licenses is for kids, it means Miyamoto wants to play around with visual styles in a game for everyone who truely loves games... the man is an artist, let him use whatever paints he wants in the creation of his masterworks and don't judge until you've seen the final.

Personally I'm more interested in seeing if Soul Calibur 2 itself is worth my time before I'm going to start worrying about any cross-company characters sneaking in. Still, the mental image of Link being in the same game as Voldo is a bit odd.

The strange thing is that Gameforms doesn't even that this would be a rumor... there's not even a question mark to qualify it.

I'll wait until I see a screenshot to decide for myself though. I really wasn't expecting that one...

Apparently, this IS what the latest Hyrule Times is about...interesting...

If ganon/gannondorf is in as well, premature ejaculation will follow...

I just hope link isn't a pallette swap or some other BS...

I think Link will end up being a Casandra play alike at best... since he's only on the Gamecube he probably isn't getting an orginal motion set...

I hope Gannondorf as a Nightmare play alike is included as well...

The adult link is more than suitable to fit in the Soul Calibur Scene (if they have the hyper happy Xiangxuawhatever her name is, why not adult Link?) Specially Oni link from Majora's Mask. Gameplay wise it would not be a problem either, they would probably do something similar to lizard man were they took some moves from sophitia and added more to fit his character.

He could be a "palette swap-like" of Cassandra (Like Kilik is to Seung Mina, or Xianghua to Hwang).

Motion Swap, not palette swap (palette swap look identical save color and in the case of Shotokans a few moves and heads, motion swaps look totally different but retain the same basic moves)

I actually think a Palette Swap of Casandra would be better... maybe people would respect Cel-da if the "mature" Link they wanted so badly was a little girl in a green skirt...

"Gameforms article" , posted Thu 13 Jun 21:47post reply

The story of Link being in SC2 is now at Gameforms (which if I'm not mistaken is made up of former GIA staff)

http://www.gameforms.com/news/0206/10/sc2link.html

strangely they don't say "rumor" anywhere in the article, but rather seem to be out right saying he's in...

I'm going to remain slightly skeptical until Gamespot runs the article and/or actual in game pictures start to surface.

Actually, Gamers.com article I've quoted above doesn't mention it's a rumor either.
I called it a rumor just to be safe...
Pessimism works wonders when it comes to the video game related rumors.

you're right... well that's just bizzare everyones presenting this as fact...

Hmmmm... well for those keeping score at home let's go over the facts:

Evidence Link is in:
-Namco, Sega, and Nintendo's Triforce board
-Namco making a Star Fox shooter
-Yoshimitsu proves Soul Calibur is not cameo proof
-no report calls it a "rumor"
-he could easily be a motion swap of Casandra

Evidence Link' not in:
-Sounds a lot like "Sonic is SSB:Melee rumor"
-calling him "harder, more mature, Space-World Demo Adult Link" screams 'let's get the Cel-da haters hopes up'
-Gamespot has yet to post an article about it (and they reported CvS3 on the XBox)
-Namco of Europe has said they know nothing about his inclusion

so right now, it seems like a 50/50 split... but it's best to think it's fake until it's out right confirmed to avoid a broken heart...
